Combe Have Won The Hughes Supplementary Cup!!

Combe complete the double in their return season to football in the Witney and District. Opponents FC Mills had already fought hard twice this season against Combe losing 11-0 and a recent close 3-2 battle. It was too also mark the return to Clanfield F.C where Jon Mason had spent 10 years of his career gracing the surface with his 50yard clearances and also a young Dave Snook.

The game started with quickly with neither team looking stronger. It was however, Mills who scored the opening. B Woodruffe did extremely well to hit a half-volley over the help-less Combe keeper Sean Holley. Combe replied after chances were missed by Patch Gardner and Tom Sharpe but continued to press when Jon Snell equalised with an excellent header beating the goalkeeper. Just before half-time Snell scored his and Combe’s second of the game. Snell scored his trade-mark tap-in after some good work down the right. 2-1. Combe went in at half-time on top but the score-line still suggested the game was close.

The second half proved to be a completely dominated by Combe. They played some excellent football and created plenty of chances. Tom Scroggs burst in the box after a defensive mix-up, took on a player and hit a shot between the goalkeeper’s legs to make it 3-1. The definitive goal again came from Scroggs. Similar to his first goal but on his way was tripped and a stone-wall penalty was given. Scroggs stepped up to score his second off the game. FC Mills then scored against the run of play; a player was unmarked to head in at the back post from a set-piece. 4-2. Tom Sharpe’s work-rate was rewarded soon after as captain Patrick Gardner played a through ball for the leagues top goal scorer to neatly finish in the bottom corner. 5-3.

Celebrations started that night out in Witney. Sam Hibbered was seen pole-dancing and drinking WKD’s!! How old? Here are some pictures taken by Kayleigh Snell from the night below:
