Colorguard Ten Commandments
|

1. I will not get new equipment just because mine is all dented and banged up. My equipment has served me well.
2. I will not make fun of of my instructor or band directors, no matter how silly they look or how stupid they are.
3. I will attend all practices and performances, on time, and I will be happy to be there.
4. I will thank my parents constantly for buying my outfit, silks, equipment, etc.
5. I will not purposefully damage my equipment, no matter how much I can't get that toss. I also will not purposefully hit the band director, even if he's in my way.
6. I will not leave guard to join cheerleading, drill team, or (how could you?!?!) the band.
7. I will not steal another guard's hairstyle even if it's beautiful and they would never find out. I am above stealing.
8. I will not say I can do a toss when I really can't.
9. I will not be jealous that another guard member's rifle has no dings in it. Mine only has them because it is well-loved.
10. I will not be jealous of the girl on another guard who can do a 6 with a rifle AND catch it. I will be happy for her. |

The Colorguard Ten Commandments for Stress Reduction
|
|
Thanks to Courtney for emailing these to me! If you have a different version of Guard Ten Commandments, feel free to email them to me from the link on my About Me page.
1. I will not be perfect, or even try to be.
2. I will not try to be all things to all people.
3. I will sometimes leave things undone.
4. I will not spin myself too thin.
5. I will learn to say "no".
6. I will schedule time for myself, because guard isn't the whole world (even though it seems that way).
7. I will walk away when I get angry. It's okay to toss a 6 and let it fall.
8. I will not even feel guilty for doing it.
9. I will be boring, untidy, inelegant, and unaware at times.
10. Especially, I will be my own best friend. I will know what I'm doing and where I'm going at all times. |

Colorguard Ten Commandments for Flags
|
1. I will always love my flag, even after I have dropped it many times and it gets lots of dents and scratches.
2. I will not call my flag bad names, even when I drop it. Remember, my flag goes where I make it go.
3. I will remember to bring my flag to all practices and performances.
4. I will not make my parents watch me spin more than 5 minutes a day.
5. I will try to spin my flag on soft surfaces. I will avoid concrete at all costs, and if I have to spin on it, then I will try REALLY HARD not to drop.
6. I will not favor weapons over flag. Flag was the first thing I learned to spin, and it will always have a special place in my heart.
7. I will not steal another person's flag, even if I can't find mine. I will nicely ask to borrow it!
8. I will not claim to have come up with a really neat flag move, if I really saw it on a WGI tape.
9. I will not be jealous of the girl on another guard who can do an awesome flag toss.
10. I will not be jealous of the other guard's pretty/sparkly/colorful/etc. flags that make ours look boring. I will say nice things about them. |
|
Colorguard Ten Commandments for Rifles
|
1. I will love my rifle above all other member's rifles... even if mine is old and dirty.
2. I will not curse at my rifle, even if I drop in the middle of a show.
3. I will catch my rifle on the right count, which means that I will also toss on the right count!
4. I will not make my parents film my rifle solo at every football game... only at the competitions.
5. I will not purposefully ding up my rifle. I will go to extreme lengths to catch it, even if I have to put myself in danger. (Being near a flying hunk of wood is always dangerous!)
6. I will never love sabre more than rifle... me and my rifle go back way too far!
7. I will not claim to know where my rifle is when I really haven't seen it in a week. (Of course, if I practiced every day, then I wouldn't have this problem!)
8. I will not steal a rifle move from another member's solo - I am creative enough to come up with my own work.
9. I will not be jealous of the guard who has their whole guard toss a six... and they all catch it. I will be happy for them.
10. I will not be jealous of the schools who have brand new, beautiful rifles. Ours are just well-loved! |
