"We sing higher up here..."

Who we are
We are a women's barbershop chorus affiliated with Sweet Adelines International. The largest women's singing organization in the world. SAI formed in 1946 in Tulsa Oklahoma, where the main headquarters is still located. We sing for the love of our craft and the entertainment value. We perform right here in Boulder and also along the front range. Need something to make your next event special? Contact us! We give an annual show that is a highlight of the year in the chorus and the community. We compete every spring at our Regional Competition. Our mission is to harmonize the world and to perfect four-part harmony through education and performance.

What is Barbershop?
Barbershop singing, whether in quartets or chorus, is four-part harmony sung without accompaniment. Generally the lead carries the melody, the bass is the low alto contralto voice on the root,  the baritone or harmony part fills the chord between the lead and bass and the tenor harmonizes above the lead. We in Sweet Adelines attempt to perfect harmony by singing the "just or true" intervals between the notes of a chord, as opposed to the tempered scale of a piano. Sound too technical? Imagine the thrill when we achieve that perfect chord. We call that "ringing" the chord and there's not another feeling like it. You are invited to come and experience it for yourself! To experience Barbershop first hand is truly the only way you'll appreciate it.  For you music lovers and theorists Barbershop harmony frequently employs the dominant 7th chord (major triad) plus the minor seventh. Not a music theory buff? Neither are we! So don't let that scare you. We just want to sing and have a great time doing it. Making friends and having fun and sharing music. Who could want anything more?
