Colorado Columbine Girls State is pleased to announce Julie Micalizzi, a 2009 delegate and Senior at William J. Palmer High School in Colorado Springs, Colorado has been awarded a National Samsung Scholarship in the amount of $20,000 to be used for her undergraduate study expenses such as tuition, books, fees, and room and board.
2009 Girls State Director, Rochelle Whitney said, “The Samsung Scholarship program is a very competitive program and Julie shined among the best and brightest students in the country—we are so proud of her!”
In addition to her national scholarship award, Micalizzi received a $1,000 scholarship at the state level. Scholarship recipients are selected based on the following criteria: academic record; involvement in school activities; involvement in community activities; community service; financial need and additional bonus points in the selection process will be awarded to descendants of
2009 Columbine Girls State delegates, Chelsey Green and Shiah Shahmohammadi, were selected by their peers to attend the American Legion Auxiliary's Girls Nation Program in Washington, D.C. First held in August 1947, the Girls Nation program, is comprised of Girls State attendees from across the nation. The program furthers the education received at Girls State programs to the federal level. Congratulations to Chelsey and Shiah on achieving this high honor!
The Board of Colorado Columbine Girls State is pleased to announce the selection of Darcee Barber as 2010 Girls State Director. Darcee is a 30-year VIM Member of the Auxiliary. Her home base is Unit 160 in Byers and she is currently serving as the District 2 President. She is the lucky mom of Katie and Sammy and very much in love with my husband Tim!!! Her Auxiliary eligibility is through her father who served in both the Army and National Guard. Darcee says is truly a selfless man who she admires and looks up to. If all that isn't enough, Darcee works in retail management and enjoys the contact with the diverse shoppers she has the pleasure of meeting everyday.
Assisting Darcee will be Katie Starcevich. Katie is a 2-year member of Auxiliary E-Unit 195 and currently works in event planning. She is studying nutrition at Metro State College of Denver. Her family includes parents Joe and Sue and brother Joe. She enjoys reading, sjii ng, bike riding, traveling, doing arts and crafts and, of course, Girls State.
We know it will be a wonderful year for the 2010 delegates and staff members. Congratulations, ladies!

We have been informed that some of the DVD's sent home with information for our delegates may not be functioning properly. You are encouraged first to verify that you are inserting the disk into a DVD player versus CD. If the disk still does not work it may be that your computer is not compatible with the one which created the Master File from which all the other disks were created.
We are taking steps to provide the materials from the disk to you on this website. They include a raw version of your city photo (already shown on our Tuesday, June 16 page), a copy of your "fun pose" city picture and a labeled copy of your city picture. In additional we will be providing copies of all the city Columbine Leaf Newspapers. Finally, you will have access to the delegate list on a password protected page.

It's true the deadline isn't until December 31, 2009, but we realize you are entering the busiest and most exciting year of your high school careers. This is your opportunity to get this task completed before your Senior year.
