Week 4 in the CSFL

Michigan loses another heartbreaker in OT

Perry dives for a 1st Quarter TD. Perry's first of the year.

CSFL-South Bend, IN - Michigan ran into the luck of the Irish as Notre Dame comes away with a 30-27 OT victory. Michigan and Notre Dame battled back and forth throughout the whole contest. This game exemplified what Big Ten football is about. Good play and hard nose competition.

Michigan kicked off to start the game and Notre Dame’s dangerous kick returner CB #34 Vontez Duff rambled 99 yards for the touchdown. Duff wasn’t even touched as he sailed down the left sidelines. Michigan would square things up after a steady drive on a 1 yard touchdown run by HB #23 Chris Perry, his first touchdown of the year. The Irish offense finally took the field and picked through the Michigan defense. The luck of the Irish came into play on 4th and 5 deep in Michigan territory when QB #7 Carlyle Holiday ducked under a sack attempt and completed the pass for a first down. Notre Dame capped the drive on a 2 yard touchdown run by FB #16 Rashon Powers-Neal. Michigan fought right back as normal and tied the game at 14 with a 25 yard touchdown pass from QB #16 John Navarre to WR #27Calvin Bell. Notre Dame tried to get cute with their play calling on their next drive and it proved costly. On a reverse pass Michigan LB #49 LaMarr Woodley picked the pass off and 24 yards later gave the Michigan defense its first defensive touchdown of the year. Notre Dame collected themselves and decided to get back to their style of play. Notre Dame moved the ball methodically down the field and Notre Dame QB #7 Holiday threw his first touchdown pass of the game to TE #14 Gary Godsey with 1:17 left in the first half. Notre Dame and Michigan went into the half tied at 21.

The 3rd quarter ended with no scoring. Thanks to big defensive plays by both teams. Especially Notre Dame’s Vontez Duff. What appeared to be a break away touchdown run by Michigan HB Chris Perry turned into a fumble caused by Duff. Duff stripped the ball away from Perry after he had ran 54 yards. Notre Dame would recover the fumble on their own 15 yard line and keep Michigan out of the end zone. Both teams defense’s held tight and only allowed a FG by both offenses. Michigan’s OLB Carl Diggs had 4 sacks on the game, 3 of them came in the final minutes of the game to force Notre Dame to kick the game tying field goal.

Notre Dame elected to play defense first in OT and held Michigan to 0 yards. Michigan was forced to depend on its shaky field goal kicker who had missed some clutch field goal attempts in the previous 3 games. But Kicker #34 Phillip Brabbs came through and connected from 43 yards out, giving Michigan a 3 point lead. Notre Dame took the field and masterfully moved the ball down to the 5 yard line. Notre Dame’s FB #16 Rashon Powers-Neal took a hand off up the middle and bowled into the end zone and gave Notre Dame the 30-27 OT victory.

“All of our games have come down to the wire this year and we’ve come up short every time except once. We’ve had two OT games in the first four games this season. But this game was nothing to be ashamed of. Our kids played hard and the mistakes they made came from playing hard, not mental errors. And that’s all you can really ask from your players. It’s a shame we had to lose, but ND had a great gameplan coming into this game and they executed it very effectively. They use all the weapons on their team. You don’t know where they are going to hit you from. I feel better about our team after this game and hope we can get a win up in Madison next week. Which is very tough place to play.” Stated Coach Kegr8er during his post game radio show ‘What’s on Tap with the Kegr8er’.

Unlikely hero's in battle of stellar QB's - UCF 38, Miami OH 24

UCF OLB Antoine Poe Tackles QB Ben Roethlisberger on an option (This is the hit that injured Poe's spinal cord in real life)

CSFL, Miami, OH - In the battle of the 2 best QB's in the MAC (and possibly the Big East), a WR and HB were the stars of the game. UCF's WR Luther Huggins is enjoying his time outside of Coach Carman's doghouse. He is the player of the game, and came through at big moments. The first was a Punt Return TD, the second was a rushing TD, and the third was a key conversion late in the game. He also had several good kick returns and punt returns that led to good field position (and which led to the low offensive numbers). In season 1 he was benched after some key drops. He didn't have any receptions in this game, thanks to a drop, but if he catches 40% of the balls thrown his way it should make up for it.

The Redhawks welcomed the Golden Knights to their home in Miami, Ohio. This game was a surprise in many ways, mostly from the big plays from both teams. Miami OH, notoriously a passing team, ran the ball right down UCF's throat. HB Luke Clemmons ended the day with 204 rush yards and 2 TD's.

UCF received the opening kickoff, and at the end of a 2 and a half minute drive Huggins scooted in. Miami OH went 3 and out on their first possession. They then punted to Huggins, who returned it 76 yards for the TD. Miami OH would score 20 seconds later on a 56 yard run by Clemens. UCF's next drive was smashmouth as well, and QB Ryan Schneider hit TE Michael Gaines for a 49 yard catch and run TD. He had to get oxygen afterwards. At the end of the wild first quarter, UCF 21, Miami OH 7.

Miami would take their next drive down and score on a 1 yard run by FB Andy Capper. UCF would have to punt, and Miami OH took over with about 1 minute to go around their 20. The drove the length of the field, and scored with :02 left and no timeouts on a Clemons 1 yard TD. At the half the score is tied 21-21.

Miami OH received the 2nd half kick, but UCF's SS Atari Bigby (the guy with the dreads) intercepted QB Ben Roethlisberger. UCF would capitalize with a screen pass TD to HB Alex Haynes for 31 yards. Miami OH would answer with a Field Goal. The rest of the 3rd quarter was mostly defensive. Ryan Schneider threw an interception to LB Terrell Jones. Miami OH had to punt, and Huggins took it to around the 40 of Miami before the end of the quarter. Score 28-24 UCF.

Ryan Scneider would rack up another TD on a long pass to WR Tavaris Capers. Then the game went another long period without a score (5 minutes). UCF would score again on a FG by K Matt Prater (real life Punter of the Year finalist - he doubles in real life, much better than in the game). 38-24 UCF. On Miami OH's last play CB Omar Laurence intercepted Roethlisberger and took it out of bounds. UCF kneeled to secure the win.

After the game Coach JWilcko was heard saying that "I hate that prick (Luther Huggins)." Coach Carman hated him last season, but he did a great job today, and was essentially the difference in the score. This was a great game by both coaches, and we'll probably be at or near the top of the MAC division of the Big East. And look out next season when Jwilcko has a better team.

UCF hopes to stay atop the MAC Division of the Big East after this crucial victory. Also in a few weeks UCF will rematch against the hated in-state rivals the Miami Hurricanes, whom they beat last season. UCF is the last hope for all of Florida at defeating the Canes as they beat FSU 28-25 and UF  31-28.

Auburn stays afloat in Rain Bowl

Auburn and Tennessee battled in a rain soaked Neyland Stadium, and the crowd witnessed what could be called a defensive game. Auburn started with the ball, but went 3 and out, and Tennessee took over. The Vols went on a 15 play drive that took almost 5:00 before taking it in for the TD. With the first half coming to a close, Auburn faced a 4th and about 8 from the Tennessee 30, and feeling as though they should capitalize on the field position, called the fake FG, and it was successful as Auburn tied the game at 7-7 at the half. Tennessee took the kickoff after halftime, and ran a good 3:00 drive that resulted in a FG, and a 10-7 lead. As Auburns back was against the wall, and the offense sputtering in the rain, QB #17, Cambell led the option with Carnell Williams down the field, and took the 14-10 lead going into the fourth quarter. Tennessee would mount a good drive, inside the Auburn 20, but an ill timed INT for Clausen and the score was now 21-10. Auburn then ran the ball, but even though Tennessee had a chance at the end, and failed on fourth downs, the Tennessee team put up a great defensive effort.

Auburn moves to 2-1 (1-0) and faces Mississippi and Mississippi State in its next two games.

Texas Brands the Bears

Coach Linebacker played a good smart game, but Texas simply over powered the Baylor Bears.

The first quarter - On the opening kickoff Baylor fumbled and Texas recovered. QB Vince Young was sacked, and Texas went for a FG. On Baylor's next drive the QB fumbled, and DE Pickryl picked it up and rumbled in for the touchdown. Texas at this point had the ball for about :30 seconds, and had about 2 yards of offense, but the score was 10-0. Baylor punted on the next drive and HB Cedric Benson scored on a rushing TD. And before the quarter was out Vine Young and Roy Williams hooked up, and Williams broke a few tackles on the way to an 80 yard TD catch (about 70 of that was after the catch). At the end of the first quarter, Texas 24 Baylor 0. We won't bore you with any more visuals of Baylor in a Texas highlight reel.

The 2 fumbles Baylor had weren't something that can be helped, just the AI killing a lower team. There was one interception, but other than that a very smart game. He did get onto Texas side of the field a few times, and I think there was one time in the Red Zone. Great game coach Linebacker, and Tennessee should more than make up for this team.

Oklahoma Rolls over Oklahoma State

The Oklahoma defense was dominant in a week 4 win over in-state rival Oklahoma State. With 2 touchdowns on the day and a crushing blitz scheme they held the cowboys to 130 total yards on 43 plays including -4 yards rushing on 23 attempts. Oklahoma wasnt lacking on offense either as the sooners produced 408 yards of total offense despite running simple draw plays most of the second half. Jason White was a very efficient 10-14 for 220 yards and 2 td's. Despite the big win the OU staff still saw some areas of play that werent satisfying and will work hard to improve before week 5.

Miami wins another Florida Matchup over FSU

Florida State won the toss and elected to kickoff. The crowd was raucous in Tallahasse for this game. Florida State drove down the field easily on their first drive but the Miami defense rose up when it counted most and held them to a field goal. The Seminoles we able to get into the end zone on their next drive when Greg Jones ran 80 yards for a touchdown. Miami was able to score on their next drive which was keyed by a couple of clutch 3 down conversions. Quadrine Hill took it in from the 1 yard line for the score. Miami missed a field goal on their next drive that would have tied the game at the half. Halftime score, Florida State 10, Miami 7.

Florida State took the opening kickoff of the 2nd half and drove down the field to score, using a nice mix of run and short to intermediate pass plays. Miami, though, was able to come right back and score a touchdown on the next drive. A fourth down and inches play from the FSU 7 yard line turned into a TD run when Derrick Crudup went to sneak the ball for the first down and ended up breaking the run outside to get into the end zone. The Miami defense stood up strong on FSU’s next offensive series and forced them to go 3 and out. On the Hurricanes next drive they completed a key pass to Frank Gore when it was 4th and 6 at the FSU 39 yard line. Gore was forced out of bounds at the 5 yard line. This led to another touchdown run by Hill, his 2nd of the game.

The Miami defense came up big again and forced the Seminoles to punt, but they almost gave it back again when Rolle muffed the punt. Luckily for Miami, they were able to pounce on the lose ball. Miami took the ball down the field, trying to milk as much time as possible from the clock, running the ball on every play of the dirve. Frank Gore scored his 1st touchdown of the night to cap off the drive, on a 12 yard run. FSU got the ball back with 2:02 to go in the game. They were able to score, with a lot of intermediate to long passes, leaving 1:12 on the clock. They also converted the 2 point try to cut the deficit to 3. They tried the onside kick but Miami was able to recover and started their drive on the FSU 46 yard line. The “too this point useless” Brock Berlin, who spent most of the night on his back when not injured, Brock completed a 3rd and long pass to Beard to seal the game for the Hurricanes. Miami was able to run out the clock and get the win.

The player of the game honors go the Derrick Crudup and Quadrine Hill. Crudup came in at the end of the 1st half when Berlin got hurt and helped lead the Hurricanes to their first 3 touchdown s. Using a little no huddle here and there to move the Canes up and down the field, he was also key in converting all 3 fourth downs his team faced; all on drives in which they scored. Hill’s rushing stats may not seem that impressive but he was invaluable to the team, converting first downs all night and scoring twice. This was a classic game with the final 28-25. Neither team committed a turnover and the only mistake was the muffed punt return that was recovered by the return team. If the Canes beat the UCF Golden Knights later in the season they will win the Florida Cup! Great game FSU and good luck the rest of the season.

Nate Kaeding celebrates after game winning field goal.

IOWA KICKS PAST OREGON ST
#5 Hawkeyes 19 #10 Oregon St 17
Iowa is notorious for playing in close games and this was no different. Oregon St dominated the game on offense with long lengthy drives. In the game, the Beavers had the ball for almost 20 minutes to the Hawkeyes 4 minutes. After Stephen Jackson gave the Beavers a 7-0 lead, they stopped the Iowa high powered passing attack to 3 and out. So they had another long drive but this time CB Antwan Allen intercepted a pass and took it 96 yards for a score. The Beavers added a last second FG to take a 10-7 lead at the half. The second half mirrored the first as Iowa took the lead on a 47 yard int return by LB Abdul Hodge. The Hawkeye defense finally figured a way to stop the out route and got the ball back and was driving....until Nathan Chandler coughed up the ball and Oregon St recovered for a TD to take a 17-14 lead. Iowa got the ball and was driving and on 3rd and 11 from the Beavers 31 yard line with 3 minutes to go, Chandler was sacked back at the 40. On 4th and 20 down 17-14 in the 4th, Coach ChampDizzle decided to punt it and it landed on the 3. After 2 plays no yards, Matt Roth sacked Derek Anderson for a safety. After the kick, Chandler had 2 long passes to Clinton Solomon after Coach ChampDizzle figured a way to beat the nickel zone. On 3rd and 15, Chandler hit Solomon on an out for a mere 11 yard gain, but it set up a 47 yard game winning FG with 4 seconds left for the victory. Coach had this to say "That was a tough ballgame. They dominated both sides of the ball. That DE was on Chandler the entire game, so we really couldn't get anything going. He used ball control and used every second of each play to keep it from our offense, but our defense finally stepped up. I was outcoached for the entire game until the last 3 minutes and that was the difference."

Kentucky wins shootout verse Ole Miss in rematch of National Championship Coaches

Kentucky jumped out to a 21-0 lead over the Rebels in the first quarter. Ole Miss was then able to score and make the score more respectable, 21-7. Kentucky's next possession ended in an interception off of an Ole Miss tipped pass. That would lead to another Rebel TD and cut the lead to 21-14. Ketucky came storming back and scored two more touchdowns in the 2nd quarter to make the score 35-14.  Ole Miss was able to score just before the half, and the score was 35-21 Kentucky.

Ole Miss got the ball to start the 2nd half, and they were able to score quickly cutting Kentucky's lead to 7 points again. Kentucky's next drive was a good one roaring downfield to Ole Miss's red zone. On 3rd down after a big sack, Kentucky was able to complete a pass but was 2 yards short of the first down marker. Instead of kicking the FG, they opted to go for it and the Rebels found a little success, stopping the off-tackle run cold for a loss. They marched the ball down field to score and tie the game up 35-35.

Unfortunately, this would be as close as the Rebels would come to winning cause they couldn't stop the Kentucky offense, which eventually went on to score 24 more points. Ole Miss did manage to score 2 TD's in the 4th quarter, but it wasn't enough. Kentucky 59 - Ole Miss 49.

Week 3 in the CSFL

UW Defense Gives Up A Mile and Then Some In 38-31 Loss!

CSFL Tucson Arizona – The Washington Huskies traveled south to hook up with the Sun Devils of Arizona State for a PAC-10 opener. If you expected a defensive struggle then you should probably look away now.

Arizona St took the opening kick and marched the field connecting on a couple 3rd and longs leading to a 1-yard plunge by Candidate. Washington wasn’t going to be out down as they capped off a nice kick return by Reggie Williams to take the ball a short distance for a 4-yard Tuiassasopo TD run. Things were just getting started as the first quarter ended 7-7.

The second quarter started with the most amazing thing that anyone has ever seen, Washington held Arizona on a 3rd down and forced them to punt. Pickett lead the march down the field but stalled on the 15-yard line and Washington settled for a field goal and a 10-7 lead. Arizona St would again march the field picking apart a very weak secondary and putting the ball in the end zone on a 2-yard run by Carney. Washington was pinned dip on the kick-off due to a clipping call but moved the ball to the 40-yard line but had to punt with 1:30 to go in the half. Arizona St took advantage on a long pass play, like they did all night, and capped off a quick drive with a 1-yard Rex Walter dive. The score at the half ASU 21 – UW 10.

The second half started off on a good note for the Huskies as Reggie Williams caught a pass over the middle amongst 2 defenders who looked like they had an angle on the interception but instead it turned into a 79-yard touchdown pass. The score now 21-17 Arizona St didn’t panic as they were able to put a drive together to the Husky 10. After a sack and a 3rd down incompletion they settled for a field goal and a 7 point lead in the 3rd quarter. Unfortunately for Washington their offense decided to stall on the next drive and Arizona St punched the ball in again for a 31-17 lead. If you thought that was bad once again the Husky O was not doing anything and once again Arizona St put it in the end zone on a 58-yard pass to Lightfoot. Now things were looking really bad at the end of the 3rd quarter as ASU lead 38-17.

The Huskies finally started to show life as they started the fourth by taking the ball down the field on a 7 play drive in only 1:30 and Tuiassasopo ran one in for his second touchdown of the game. Now down 38-24 Washington got what they needed in an interception by FS Benjamin off of a deflected pass and a short field in front of them. On a 3rd and long Pickett found Alexis over the middle on a blitzing linebacker and a triple covered Williams for a 21-yard touchdown reception and now back in the game down 7. This is where the comeback ends as Arizona St was able to pick up key first downs on 3rd down and kill the clock to take the game 38-31.

“It is going to be a long season if our defense does not step up”, Coach Yates said. “We had them in 3rd and long a good amount of the game yet Rex [Walters] was able to sit back and pick apart our weak secondary all day long. We had players in position for pass deflections but still couldn’t get our hands on the ball. They played well and it was a rather exciting game we just need to work on stepping up on the defensive side of the ball. You give up 461 yards on Defense then you have a real problem.”

Fitzgerald comes up big in pittsburghs comeback win. 32-27

Pittsburgh, PA (AP) In a game that could very well decide the Big east champion there was no disappointment for the fans. Pittsburgh came out firing on all cylnders when Rod Rutherford hit Billy Gaines for a 78 yd touchdown pass on the first drive of the game with 5:40 left in the first quarter. West Virginia answered with a long drive that resulted in a 9 yard scamper by Q. Wilson. Wilson added another 10 yard rushing TD to make it a 14-10 WVU lead at half. Pittsburgh would answer early in the second half with a 80 yd touchdown pass to Larry Fitzgerald to make it a 17-14 Pitt lead early in the third. Wilson once again came through big with a 15 yd TD run to make it a 21-17 WVU with 2:00 left in the third. Scoring was sparce after that run as it took Pittsburgh until 4:50 left in the 4th to tak on 3 on a 41 yd field goal by Abdul. His second of the day. Making it 21-20 West Virginia. "I wasn't sure if we should go for it or kick the field goal to make it a 1 point game." "It looks like I made the right decision though," Said coach Trower. After forcing WVU to punt late in the fourth quarter Pittsburgh surprised the WVU defense with a nice little 57yd scamper to Miree who dove into the endzone to make it 26-27 with only 2:10 remaining. After failing to make the 2pt conversion Pittsburgh left the door wide open for Wilson and Company. With :43 second remaining Wilson ran it in from 1 yd out to make it a 27-26 WVU lead. "I was thinking oh no not again. This is the same crap that happened when we played Notre Dame." Said Trower. :43 seconds is a lot of time to leave any team with a high powered offense like Pittsburghs who had scored on 3 50+ yd plays already this game. With that said after a costly clipping call on the ensuing kick off Pittsburgh defenitly had there backs against the wall, but Rutherford answered with a couple 15yd passes to the wide outs to get out of bounds. The Panthers were defenintly geting close to FG range wich is all they needed. Rutherford stepped up to the line and faked a spike he had Fitzgerald wide open and he dropped it. "I thought all hope was lost right there. You draw up the perfect play you execute and the reciever drops it. Of all people your best Wide Reciever. you assume all hope is lost." said Rutherford. With one timeout left Pittsburgh still wasn't in Panic mode yet. "We tried a couple short passes that didn't work then we figured what the heck lest go with what got us here." Pittsburgh lined up on the 24 with 11 seconds remaing in the game time for one last shot at the endzone or throw it away and Kick the FG. Fitzgerald got good seperation on the Corner this time and Rutherford was able to hit him for the 24yd strike to win the game. "nail biter all the way through,That was a classic right there" said eVAN18wv coach of WVU. Pittsburgh is hoping this is the last of there close games as they look to make a defenite statement in this years first poll.

Kentucky comes up 6 yards short.

 Five turnovers ruin Lorenzen's day

In a great game that saw everything possible the Georgia Bulldogs were able to maintain the lead in the 4th quarter and pull out the win 24-21.D.J. Shockley may have had only 109 total yards but his presence caused the defense heartache all game long as he was able to evade pressure to buy time for receivers to get open or to give him room to run.The big star though was the Bulldog defense. They had 9 hurries which led to 4 picks(1 returned for a TD by CB Bruce Thornton,a forced and recovered fumble on a 3rd and goal, and one major headache for Lorenzen. He threw for 261 but his 4 picks and fumbled did just as much to hurt his team as the good he did to help.

Late in the 3rd the INT return by Thornton put Georgia up 10. Lorenzen would lead his team into the end zone behind an 18 yard drag route to WR Glenn Holt Jr.On the ensuing kickoff CB Decory Bryant would bust the kick return coverage and stroll down the sideline for the TD putting the lead back at 10.The Wildcats would again answer just into the 4th as the FB Ronald "Rock" Johnson plowed through for a 4-yard TD.The defense would force a 3 and out but Lorenzen would throw his 3rd pick of the game in Georgia territory. The defense gave up a first down and then forced the Bulldogs to punt.Lorenzen and co. would again move down the field and after a 14-yard screen pass to RB Alex Bwange(had a combined 109 yards and 1 TD) called their final timeout.1st and Goal on the Georgia 6 with 9 seconds left. We'll let the coach explain what happened on this one...

At that point in time I felt our best chance of winning was in regulation.I don't think our offense would have been able to hold it together in OT and our special teams were awful all game.We took the risk and it didn't pay off.Derek Abney was out of position and that final pick did us in.Regardless it was a great game to be a part of and we...or at least I hope to be involved in some more of these win or lose.It makes your job more enjoyable when every game gets the heart racing...Up next for us will be Ole Miss with a great QB in Eli Manning and obviously a great coach behind him in the reigning champion TheMongol. With this being our first road game this will be a gauge for us to measure ourselves and our chances in the conference this season.Of course there will be a little revenge factor on my part but we look forward to the challenge and hope to provide a challenge to Ole Miss.

Winslow contained but Gore and the defense get the job done!

Brock Berlin and the Canes got the first of many wins in ACC play

Miami won the toss and deffered to the 2nd half. UNC started their drive by effectively running the ball but Miami finally force them to punt. After an incomplete pass on 1st down, Berlin handed the ball to Gore, who, on a counter play, scored a 63 yard td. Following a poor kick return, Miami went ahead by 14 when Jonathan Vilma intercepted a pass and ran it in for a short score.

The scoring was silent until the 4th quarter as Miami threw 3 picks in the red zone and just when you would think UNC was getting on a roll, the Miami defense would rise to the occasion to stop them. The great Crudup experiment failed (2 ints near end zone) and Brock Berlin was put back in for the 4th quarter.

At the end of the 4th Miami added to its lead with a swing pass to gore that he took 57 yards to the endzone. The Hurricanes scored again after the tarheels failed to convert on 4th down on a 1yard run by quadrine hill. UNC finally got on the board after a long drive scoring with 13 sec left in the game and doubling their total yardage for the day. Good game UMD, good luck the rest of the season.

Young Shines as Texas regroups after Arkansas

Longhorn defense shut down Okie State and Rashaun Woods

CSFL - Austin, TX - Vince Young quietly showed why he is one of the best QB's in the nation. Through 3 games has not thrown the ball as much as other QB's, but is 9th in completions, 5th in total TD's (8), and 4th in rushing yards, with only 1 interception, and all from only 58 attempts. He has the best TD to Interception ratio, 7:1.

The first play was a 65 yard TD to Roy Williams. But he didn't throw only to Williams. He would only have 17 more pass attempts in the game, 15 of those for completions. Coach Parsons stated that the status of Young as one of the best statistical QB's is surprising, since the ball is spread around a lot, especially with running, and the Longhorns usually get pretty good field position so offensive numbers aren't what they normally would be. Yardage wise he is only 16th, but considering the low amount of attempts that is very good.

Oklahoma STate was forced to punt on their first possession. In a move that was surpising to the Longhorns the Cowboys decided to attack them on the ground, instead of through the air. RB Tatum Bell had an outstanding game with a few nice long runs, and 1 TD.

The score was 31-3 in the 4th quarter when Bell scored the TD, to make it 31-10. Texas played it conservative, and after several runs punted the ball. Josh Fields tried to get off a long pass, but it was intercepted. He ended the day 4 of 12 with 3 interceptions. The game didn't seem like it could end soon enough for the QB, but when it was over he learned from his mistakes, and should be able to put this game behind him.

Great game Coach NJ Havoc. Once Fields is done watching game film you should have a very balanced offensive attack. I'm just glad he didn't catch on fire with Woods today in Austin.

Smith, Abron Lead Tigers To Victory

COLUMBIA - Coming into the game Missouri knew the key to beating Kansas State was containing Ell Roberson and Darren Sproles. Even know the Wildcats ended up with 210 yards rushing, they held the Wildcats in check for the most part. KSU won the toss and elected to take the ball first. Missouri then stopped them 3 and out on their 1st possession and slowly moved the ball down the field. Mike Matheny connected on a 26 yard field goal. Then the Wildcats moved the ball down the field with a run/pass mix and punched it in on a 12 yard run by Sproles. Mizzou would score on their next two possesions to make the score 17-7 with 46 seconds to go til the half. Then the Tiger defense allowed K-State's big play being a 73 yard run by Sproles for the touchdown just before half. Coming out of the half the Tigers got the ball and were looking to add to their 3 point lead. On the 1st play Brad Smith found Zach Abron for a 77 yard touchdown pass. KSU then answered with a long drive and a 2 yard touchdown run by Roberson. The Wildcats would then score on their next drive with a toucdown pass to make the score 28-24 in favor of KSU. Mizzou would take their next drive down the field and would score with 1:29 remaining on a 1 yard run by Smith. KSU then got the ball and eventually it got to 4th and 10 on the KSU 30. Roberson dropped back and was sacked by Missouri's Brian Smith to secure the win. Good game Bigry!

Miami Ohio, headed to Cincinatti to battle for the Victory bell.

Cincy got the ball first and moved quickly down the field and scored making it 7-0. Miami then used over 4 mins of the clock and tied the score on a halfback run.

Then in the second quarter Cincy gave the ball away on a fumble. This gave Miami a good shot to score as they got the ball inside the red zone. But as luck would have it Cincy would get the ball right back as they picked off an option play.

A few plays later Cincy would make it 14-7 as they started to pull away. Miaimi took the ball over but couldn't do anything and punted. Cincy took the punt return ALL THE WAY for a touchdown making it 21-7 . Both defenses dug in with no team really getting into scoring range. But with a few seconds left in the half Miami got in range for a 38 yard field goal which went wide right.. Sending both teams to the locker room with Cincy leading 21-7.

Miami got the ball to start the second half but was just manhanded by Cincy's defense which produced 9 sacks in the game.

Cincy took over and proved again to be the better team as they scored passing again making the score 28-7. Cincy then scored again making it 35-7 entering the fourth quarter.

Then by some chance Miami got thier passing game going and made it 35-14. Miami normal punted the ball and it proved to be the right choice as Miami's defense stood up and got the ball back on a 3 and out. Ben Roesthlisberger was able to throw down the field again making the score 35-21.

So Miami set up for an onside kick and failed giving Cincy great field position as they went down and scored making it 42-21. Miami then found its way to the end zone by some great passing making it 42-28. But another failed onside kick gave Cincy the ball and the game as they ran out the clock spoiling the New Miami of Ohio coaches first game.

Battle for the Commenwealth Trophy

Virginia Tech entered this game looking for its first win of the season and Virginia came in perfect on the season with a record of 2-0. The Commenwealth Trophy goes to the winner of this long-time rivalry.

Depending on how you look at it, this was a good defensive game or a sloppy offensive game. Tech began the game with the ball and took it's first drive to about their own 40 before being forced to punt. Virginia then took control and scored on a 15 yard pass from Matt Schaub to Wall Lundy to make the score 7-0 Virginia.

The second quarter was a battle of who didn't want the ball as Virginia forced 2 interceptions to Tech's 1. Va Tech drove down the field towards the end of the half to set up a 32 yard field goal attempt for Carter Warley, only to have it slice right and bang off the right upright. At the end of the half the score remained 7-0.

Virginia opened up the 2nd half with the ball. Each team forced another turn over and Virginia got the ball again. They started from their 17. On the second play of the drive, Garnell Wilds intercepts the ball and scores on a 26 yard interception return. This made the score all tied at 7-7.

Virginia got the ball back at the end of the third but were forced to punt. Tech was thinking of the possibility of a fake so they had no one back to take the punt. Virginia kicked it down field as it rolls out at the 15 yard line, thus ending the 3rd quarter all tied up still.

The 4th quarter was all Virginia Tech. They took the ball down field with a combination of 15 running plays for 63 yards and 3 passing plays for 20 yards that took them down to the 2 yard line. As Virginia had used all their timeouts with 53 seconds left, Marcus Vick would take two knees to avoid a turnover and to set Warley up for the game winning field goal. The final score was 10-7 Va Tech as they upset Virginia and get their first win of the season.

Wildcat Defense Comes up Big in 38-14 Win Over Baylor

Can the Wildcat D give Lorenzen the help he needs?

Lexington,KY

A year removed from coaching the Sooners,Coach Sam 3 now leads the SEC Kentucky Wildcats to what they hope to be a promising season.

QB Jared Lorenzen led the offense with 4 total TD's(2 passing and 2 rushing) on 186 passing yards and 63 rushing. The real story of the game though was the Wildcat defense living up to the nickname by getting 4 picks(1 returned for a TD) and 1 sack as the defense led the way to a 38-14 win over the Baylor Bears of the Big XII.

The Wildcats got out to an early 14-0 lead in the first half only to see it cut to 7 after Lorenzen threw picks on back-to-back possessions to place the Baylors in the red zone both times.Luckily a missed fg by the Bears on the 2nd pick was able to keep it at 7.The Wildcats defense would then get 3 more picks including the game-clinching pick late in the 3rd by safety Mike Williams returned for 53 yards to put them up 38-14.Coach was available for comments after the game...

I was impressed with the effort our guys played with today. They were very energized and kept the crowd very into the game. We'll need to keep them involved if we want to get to where we want to be.Also even with all the rumors floating around Alex Bwenge will start at RB next week. We're just going to chalk it up as a bad game.We hope that he will bounce back after the 3 fumbles he had today.Up next for us will be UNLV and our first conference game against the Georgia Bulldogs. We look forward to getting back on the field and seeing if we can compete with the big boys.

Near the end of the 3rd quarter, Miami (OH) was forced to punt and WR Adarius Bowman caught it on the 8 yard line. You aren't supposed to field punts inside the 10 right? Wrong! Bowman would take it 92 yards to the house the take a 24-20 lead for UNC. With 3:47 left in the 4th quarter, QB Ben Rothlisberger would find WR Michael Larkin on a 16 yard pass for a TD to give Miami (OH) a 3 point lead. The Tar Heels would then get 1 last drive. Hurricanes Pick-Up Where They Left Off, With a "W" 56-42 Over Ole Miss

Winslow and Beard have the Canes back in the hunt to repeat

Oxford -- No Punters Needed in Oxford! Miami drove down the field on their opening drive for a TD, with a 55 yard run by Frank Gore and then a pass to Kellen Winslow in the endzone. Ole Miss started on their drive but fumbled and it was recovered by the Hurricanes. This set up a TD run by Gore. On the Rebels next drive Eli Manning threw an interception which was returned to about the 20 yard line. A run by Gore and a pass to Winslow in the end zone resulted in a score of 21-0 in favor of the Hurricanes. The Rebels then went on a long sustained drive resulting in a Touchdown. When Nichols kicked off, Rolle took the kick and returned it all the way for a touchdown. On the next drive, Manning threw another interception deep in Miami territory which was returned out to midfield. On the next play, Frank Gore ran it down inside the 10 yard line, and then scored a couple of plays later. The Rebels went on another long drive scoring on a 1 yard run. Ole Miss tried a short kick to an up man who made a fair catch on the 35. Miami scored on the first play from scrimmage when Winslow caught a short pass and turned it up field for a 65 yard TD. Ole Miss mounts a drive at the end of the half which results in a touchdown. Nichols’ resulting kick to the up man almost ended in disaster as it was pitched to Rolle who almost made it to the endzone. The half ended on this play with a 42-21 score. At halftime, Eli Manning, already had 343 yards passing.

Ole Miss opened the 2nd half with a long drive for a touchdown, mostly with Manning short passes. The converted a key 4th down and 10 from midfield. Miami was finally able to burn some clock on their next drive but it was all for naught, when Brock Berlin threw an interception on a 3rd and goal play. The Interception was returned 95 yards for the touchdown, by #5 on Ole Miss. Miami made up for the mistake on the last drive by scoring another TD by Winslow on the next drive. This made the score 49-35 with about 3 minutes left in the 4th quarter. On Ole Miss’s next drive Jonathan Vilma of Miami intercepted a pass around midfield. This ended in a Miami touchdown by Roscoe Parrish. Ole Miss was able to score again on a pass from Manning to Collins. They failed to recover the onside kick and Miami was able to run most of the rest of the time off the clock.

Eli Manning torched the Hurricanes for 515 yards and 4 touchdowns but also threw 3 picks. Miami’s defense gave their offense a ton of scoring opportunities and are co-studs of the game along with Frank Gore (200 yards/2 TDs) and Kellen Winslow (8 catches/198 yards/4 TDs and some monster blocks). Good game Ole Miss, and good luck the rest of the way.

Pickett’s First Half Perfection Leads Huskies To Win 38-10

Pickett's first half line was impressive in a big win over OSU

CSFL Oklahoma State – The Washington Huskies traveled to Oklahoma State for the 2nd game of their 4 game season opening road trip to take on Rashaun Woods and a talented group of kids. It all came down to the arm of Cody Pickett, 7-7 152-yards & 3 TD’s, and a solid performance by the much maligned Husky defense.

OSU took the opening kick and wasn’t able to do much with it in the first couple of plays and on third down a fumble was jumped on by Carothers from Washington and the Huskies were in business on the 36-yard line of Oklahoma State. The first play from scrimmage Pickett found Reggie Williams, 105-yards 1 TD, over the middle on a curl route that he turned and went up the middle to score and give Washington a 7-0 lead. Oklahoma State moved the ball down the field but was picked off on the 10-yard line and the Huskies were in control again as the first quarter came to an end. UW 7 – OSU 0

The second quarter started with the Huskies moving the ball down the field with a nice balanced attack the ended with a 5-yard TD pass to the TE over the middle and a 14-0 lead. Oklahoma State looked to get the ball down the field to Woods but instead found Derek Johnson of the Huskies who returned the interception 47-yards for a TD and 21-0 lead. Unfortunately for OSU the next play resulted in a fumble that Washington recovered. A nice play action fake froze the linebacker and let the TE rumble down the field wide open for a 32-yard TD pass and the half time score of 28-0 in favor of the Huskies.

Washington took the ball to start the second half and after a few plays had the ball near mid-field. The next play Rich Alexis ran off tackle following blockers and making an excellent run down the sideline for a 62-yard TD scamper. Washington was now up 35-0 and the back-ups came into the game to get some work. The bad luck continued for OSU as they fumbled on their first play from scrimmage. After 3 rushing plays UW kicked a 26-yard field goal for a 38-0 lead at the end of the third quarter.

The fourth quarter saw Oklahoma State get on the board with a 40-yard pass to WR Rashaun Woods followed up by a late field goal from 41-yards out. The final score UW 38 – OSU 10. “They had some bad luck today. A couple of key fumbles really hurt them and set us up for a few quick scores,” Coach Yates said. “I was impressed with our defense since they are our weak point. They held up well and made some plays. Pickett was in the zone and had a pretty good first half of work. We look forward to getting into PAC-10 play and trying to get ourselves a title and hopefully into the final tournament. I think the key to this season will be our D. If they can slow some people down we might be able to put up some number son offense to get us a few wins but the PAC-10 is tough and loaded with talented coaches so it will be a tough fight this season.”

Iowa Wins Cy-Hawk Trophy 41-14

Hawkeyes win in-state battle in romp

Ames, IA (AP) - Another week, another quick defensive score against a hapless Iowa State offense that only generated enthusiasm after the game was well out of reach. Hawkeye CB Bob Sanders grabbed an interception on the Cyclones' first play from scrimmage and returned it to the house as the Hawkeyes rolled 41-14. The game was not as close as the final score would indicate as the Hawkeyes reserves played the entire second half after the starters posted a 38-0 halftime lead.

The Hawekeye defense contributed for two TDs including Sanders and an interception run back 85 yards after a failed Hail Mary attempt going into the intermission. Iowa State managed two TDs in the third quarter but by then they were playing against the Hawkeye scout team.

Nevada Rolls on Road 56-14 at La.Tech

Threadgill has the Nevada O running full blast

Nevada's run game and Defence completly dominated this game. last week Nevada had 361 pass yards compared to 30 rush yards. But coach Milkbone underestamated the power of HB D.D. Cox, who ended up with 158 yards on 17 carries.

The only score for either teams in the first quarter was by D.D. Cox on a 21 yards run. Bu then things started to get ugly. In the second quarter Tech scored on the opening drive to make a 7-7 game. On Nevada's next drive they were forced to punt on 3 plays. But on La Tech's next drive MLB#44 grabbed a over the middle pass and stumbled into the endzone for a 60 yards return. On the second play of the next frive CB#1 picked off another one of Tech's passes(ended with 2) and returned it to the house for 35 yards, making it a 21-7 game. Then with little time left in the half The Pack forced a punt and started their drive at their own 2 with 1:51 to go, it ended with a Kole Mckamey pass to WR#86 for a 33 yards TD pass with 50 ticks to go, but they werent finished. On the very next drive Nevada picked yet another pass of and returned it to midfeild with time for one play to go. coach MILKBONE decided that he had this game well in hand and just ran a simple triple option to see what would happen, well it ended up with FB#34 ending in the endzone after running 55 yards from a pitch from DD Cox, who before recieved a pitch from Mckamey, so after a crazy last play of the half, the teams went into the lockerrooms with Nevada on a high mountain, 35-7.

The second half again, was completly dominated by Nevada, offensivly and defencivly. the only other TD scored by Tech was on a fumble recovery returned for a TD, leaving the nevada DEF giving up only one score in the game and racking up 5 picked passes, 2 for TDs. FB#34 added another TD , who ended with a very good day for a fullback, 3 carries for 77 yards and 2 TDs, and backup RB#40 also found the endzone 2 time, 54 yards on 5 carries and 2 td's, one recieving.

Riccio Fuels Late Comeback

Riccio was the unlikely hero hitting TB Zack Abron in the Endzone to win

CHAMPAIGN - The Missouri Tigers and the Illinois Fighting Illini squared off in a great battle Saturday night at Memorial Stadium on the Illinois campus. After swapping touchdowns the Tigers took a 21-14 lead into the half. Missouri would continue to pound the ball at the Illini defense after the break, but Tim Starks fumbled the ball at the Illini one yard line and Illinois recovered. The Illini then proceded to move the ball through a mixture of both run and pass and get the ball into the endzone. On their next possession Brad Smith injured his left arm and was out for the game. This stalled the Mizzou offense and they were forced to punt. The Illini would get into field goal range and make it to give them the 24-21 lead. Backup Sonny Riccio then lead his team down the field and with 7 seconds remanining found Zack Abron in the back of the endzone for the winning touchdown for a 28-24 Tiger Win!

Britton Komine caught Changs only TD pass

Hawaii -- The Rainbow Warriors (1-0) used a last second Field Goal by K Justin Ayat to beat the Terrapins (0-1) in a match-up of new team vs old team for Coach UMD. UMD piloted the Terrapins to the Final Four in the CSFL's Inaugural Season before being eliminated by Arkansas 27-10. Season 1 Heisman Trophy Winning Hawaii QB Timmy Chang (18-of-32 220 yards 1 TD 2 INTs) was just average against a talented Maryland secondary. The Rainbows burst out to a 10-0 lead in the first quarter when Chang hit WR Britton Komine for a 14 yard TD. Halfback John West added a score early in the third quarter on a one yard run to give Hawaii a 17-7 lead. HB Mike Bass (18 carries 95 yards) gained 60 yards on the ground in the final minute to set up Ayat's 25 yard game winning FG with 3 seconds remaining to give Hawaii the Kickoff Classic victory.

"It was definitely a great game. I think we [Hawaii] had a definite advantage since I am very famialiar with Marylands personnel. There will always be a soft spot for the Terps and I hope they have a great season" said Coach UMD.

Gophers Win Hall of Fame Game 38-13

 38 vs 13

Terry Jackson II has the Gophers chewing-up yards on the ground

Metrodome (Minnesota) --Minnesota got on the board quickly in the first quarter---and in the lead for good, after Abdul-Khaliq throws a 15 yd touchdown pass with 4:08 left in the first quarter. Minnesota tacked on another 7 with a 12 yard run with 214 left in the first. With Colorado reeling, Abdul_Khaliq hit another TD pass, this time for 34 yards, and the Buffs looked toasted. With a three score deficit, Joel Klatt bombed 68 yards to Hatchett, cutting the lead to two scores, but Minnesota never let up, pounding the Buffs for 171 yards on the ground, and Joel Klatt could muster only one more touchdown at the start of the fourth, as the Gophers blasted the Buffaloes, 38-13. Coach Barnett had this to say, "I'm just glad we didn't get our ass kicked by Colorado State this time......Oh wait, they get their shot next week." On the bright side, it did look like Ralphie was on a low dose of sedatives, as the puddle of drool had nearly evaporated after Minnesota tacked on the final blow to make it a 25 point victory. Reporting from Metrodome, I'm Geraldo Rivera. Good night.

Notre Dame Edges Pitt 44-41 On the Road to Win Opener

Ryan Grant and the Irish get a big win over Pitt

Pittsburgh -- With :13 left in the first Quarter and Pittsburgh down by 21 many thought this game was over. Notre Dame came out with guns a blazing but that was silenced quickly after there 3 first quarter scores. Pittsburgh was about ready to mount probably the biggest comeback of week 1.

After Holding Notre Dame Scoreless for most of the second half pittsburghs High powered offense was still stuck in neutral. "What the **** is going on, You guys act like you've never played a top ranked team in college football." "You need to kick it in and show the country and the CSFL what you are made of." said coach Trower of Pittsburgh. The team responded like a house a fire. Suddenly Notre Dame couldn't stop anything Pittsburgh did. With 1:06 left in the 2nd Rutherford hit Fitzgerald (AKA the Man) for a 5 yd TD. Now that was a good start since pittsburgh knew they got the ball on the 2nd half kick but they weren't done there. with :05 left in the second Rutherford hit Fitzgerald again for a 7 yd TD pass. Suddenly after 14 unanswered we had a ball game. But Pittsburgh wasn't done scoring at will. After taking the second half Kickoff deep inside Notre Dame territory Rutherford hooked up with Fitzgerald again on a Nice 23yd Screen pass that no one in the stadium saw coming. "That was insane I couldn't imagine that happening rattling off 21 unanswered in neerly 2:00 of game time I'm so proud of the boys for stepping up like that and making it a ball game when they could of easily rolled over and died" Said Trower.

That was only the the beginning of things to come in this game. If you thought 21 unanswered was crazy. How about Pittsburgh put up 35 unanswered before Notre Dame hit a FG with :50 seconds left in the 3rd.

After a couple of exchanged scores in the late 3rd and early 4th it was 41-36 pittsburgh after missing a 2pt conversion with 3:35 remaining in the game. Notre Dame then went into ball control mode and did a darn good Job of it. With :36 left in the 4th Holiday hit Stovall over the middle for 6 to make it 42-41 with the 2pt conversion it was 44-41. Pittsburgh gave it a Galiant effort at the end but to no avail time expired and the Pittsburgh dreams of knocking off #5 Notre Dame were quickly banished.

"Its a shame someone had to lose this game" Said the Head Coach of Notre Dame "You hate to have to see those kids on the other sideline go through that." "I'm happy we won but know that we got away with one".

This will go down as one of the Greatest games of Season 2 without a doubt said coach Trower. I hope that this tough schedule and this rediculous comeback shows this team that we are a force in the Big East and should not let anyone stop us in the big east.

LSU Brings A Little Taste of Bayou to Southern Cal, Beat Trojans 34-21

Tigers Start Strong on West Coast

(Los Angeles, CA) - The LSU Tigers were able to avenge a preseason loss to the USC Trojans last night in convincing fashion. After a sluggish first series for the Tigers, USC took advantage of All-American candidate Mike Williams' (6-108) playmaking ability to score on their opening possession. LSU responded on their next possession going on a 7 play, 77 yd touchdown that culminated in a Devery Henderson TD. On the ensuing USC series, Brandon Hance threw an INT to Randall Gay that was returned 88 yds for a TD and swung the momentum back in the Tigers' favor. After a Tiger touchdown and a field goal by Andre Boagni, Louisiana State was able to take a 24-14 lead into the half. The second half wasn't very eventful. Another Brandon Hance INT was able to give LSU the chance to put 3 more points on the board, which Boagni nailed. The only USC points came after a botched punt by LSU punter Donnie Jones punting from his own endzone that netted 5 yds. USC was able to capitalize on the mistake with a Brandon Hancock 1yd FB dive to cut the score 34-21 and end the scoring from a competive non-conference opener to season 2. Great game from LSU as they were able to score a big road victory and gain some momentum at the start of the season. USC is left searching for answers and hopes to see the LSU in the postseason for a rubber match.

Purdue Downs Washington 28-21

Orton has the Boilermakers on the offensive

Purdue -- Very little Defense in this game lots of turnovers. Washington scored first right down the field followed by a march down the field by Purdue. Washington dove again but was picked off on teh 25 but the FS wh intercepted the pass fumbled it and reggie Wiliams picked it up on the 10 and the Huskies pounded it in for a 14-7 lead. Purdue marched back to mid field but on a 4th and 2 they elected to fake punt and were able to capitalize scoring before the half and making it 14-14. The thrid quarter started with Washington intercepting Purdue and then punching it in for a 21-14 lead. On a 3rd adn short Purdue ran teh option and was able to get outside for a long TD run and a 21-21 score. Pickett threw another interception and Purdue scored again with 1:30 in the 3rd (game freeze number 1) after forgoing the final 1:30 of the quarter Washingotn got the ball and on a thrid and 3 Picket found Chambers on a crossing pattern wide open with miles of open field in front of him but he decided not ot catch the ball. the Huskies punted and pinned Purdue deep with 4:00 to go inthe game. Purdue was able to march down to mid field with 2:00 to go when the game froze again. This is where I decided to let teh game go adn Purdue took the victory after teh second freeze. (thank you oh so much EA servers). It was a good game with little D except for the turnovers by both sides. Coach JeffMo is now 3-0 against coach Yates and coach Yates will be looking ot get some reveng in week 6 when the Huskies play the Cardinals.

Sun Deviled! Gators Burned in the Swamp By ASU 25-23

ASU QB Andrew Walter has the Devils flying high after a tough win in Gainesville

Florida -- Wow, what a game in the Swamp! This was definitely going to be a game decided in the air with two very talented quarterbacks in ASU's Andrew Walter and Florida's highly touted freshman in Chris Leak. But the game was about defense early on. Asu got on the board first with Florida holding ASU to a FG with 3:18 to go in the first quarter. ASU's defense then got in on the action with a safety on Leak with :53 to go in the first. Florida then got on the score board with a fg to make the score 5-3. ASU's Candidate scored the game's first touchdown from one yd. out. 12-3(Diamondbacks). ASU then gave up two straight touchdowns to Florida's passing attack to take the lead 17-12. ASU scored with 2:16 to go in third to make the score 18-17(failed conversion). ASU's Candidate again scored on a 1 yd run with :04 to go in the 3rd. 25-17(ASU). Florida drove down the field under Leak's guidance and put the ball in the endzone, but failed to convert the 2pt 25-23 ASU. ASU then had to punt the ball giving Florida an excellent chance to kick a fg to win the game. With UF on ASU's 20 yd line, the game seamed to be over with 1 min left. But instead of trying to run the ball UF called a passing play and Leak threw an int at the 5 yd line sealing the game for ASU. A couple of kneel downs, and game over.

After a fumble to start the 2nd half by Ebell, Edgar Cervantes took it in from 1 yard out in what looked like a rout 35-17. UCLA crawled back 20 unanswered points to go up 37-35 with 50 seconds left after an Ebell run and 2 Olson TD passes. With Chandler out, Matt Bohnet took the Hawkeyes to the 28 which included a big 4th down catch by Brown. Quack Attack: Ducks Edge Wolverines in OT to Win Opener 35-28

Duck Season has started as QB Kellen Clemens led Oregon over Michigan

Eugene -- It looks like there might be a good ol fashioned rivalry brewing between Coach Kegr8er and Coach Skinautique79. Last year these two coaches went down to the wire in the world’s largest cocktail party with Coach Kegr8er squeaking out a victory. Well, Coach Kegr8er and Coach skinautique79 went down to the wire once again. This time Coach skinautique79 and the Oregon Ducks emerged victorious 35-28 in OT.

Michigan started the game with the ball on their 8 yard line. The Wolverines would cover 92 yards for a touchdown when QB #16 John Navarre threw a 40 yard touchdown pass to WR #1 Braylon Edwards. Oregon's next drive resulted in a fumble deep in their own territory. Michigan took no time in capitalizing on the turnover and QB John Navarre found #1 Braylon Edwards for a 13 yard touchdown hookup. Michigan was up 14-0 with 1:04 left in the 1st quarter. Oregon regrouped on the sidelines and on the ensuing kickoff Oregon returned the ball to midfield. Oregon would get on the scoreboard with :35 left in the 1st quarter on a 14 yard touchdown pass from QB #11 Kellen Clemens to WR#1 Samie Parker. The first quarter ended with a bang and a 14-7 score. Michigan would be the only one to put up a score in the 2nd quarter as QB John Navarre threw a 50 yard touchdown pass to WR #1 Braylon Edwards off a play action pass with :29 left. Edwards probably had the play of the game as he lowered his shoulder to run over the Oregon defensive back on the way into the endzone. Michigan 21-7 at the half.
Oregon would bounce back by scoring first in the 3rd quarter. QB Kellen Clemens hit WR Demetrius Williams on a 18 yard touchdown pass. Oregon wasn’t done though. Oregon would even the score up at 21 when RB #22 Chris Vincent found paydirt from 2 yards out with :23 left in the 3rd quarter. Michigan’s offense would get back on track and QB John Navarre would throw his 4th touchdown pass of the game to WR #27 Calvin Bell from 12 yards out. Michigan was looking for its defense to make a stand and it did. With 1:06 left in the game Michigan got the ball back on downs. But Oregon had all 3 time outs and Michigan needed a first down to put the game away. Michigan was unsuccessful in converting a 3rd and short pass play. Oregon would get the ball back and time left on the clock. Oregon worked the field and their time outs and tied the game at 28 with :31 left on a 30 yard touchdown pass from QB Kellen Clemens to WR Keith Allen across the middle.
In OT Oregon would get the ball first and score on their first possession on a 10 yard screen pass to RB #24 Terrence Whitehead. Michigan had to score to stay in the game. Navarre had played an interception free game thus far. Until the second play in OT. Navarre saw a wide open RB Chris Perry streaking down the middle of the field and lofted the ball to him. But an Oregon linebacker sprinted passed Perry and intercepted the ball in the endzone to give The Ducks a 35-28 victory.

Coach Kegr8er had this to say in his post game meeting. “I don’t know what to say but what a football game to be a part of! I told my players at the half to expect a dog fight in the second half because I knew Coach Skinautique79 wouldn’t let us out of Eugene without a fight. It was a shame someone had to lose this game. The missed field goal by a couple of feet in the first half hurt us obviously, but I’m proud the way our players played today. Navarre played a great game and Braylon, wow! I mean the kid had a great game, outside of dropping a key pass to move the chains in the 4th quarter to put the game away. But that’s the way it goes in the CSFL. I know we’ll regroup and it’s time to focus on Washington State coming to The Big House next week. And my hat’s off to Coach Skinautique79 for playing a very good and straight game. It’s always a battle when both of us hook up and hope to get to coach against him again in the future. Good luck to Oregon the rest of the season.”

From Smurf to Surf, Broncos Rally to Beat UCF 27-24

Boise State scores 24 unanswered to steal one off UCF

Florida -- Stunner in Orlando!!! Boise State was manhandled up until the 4th quarter when they scored 24 unanswered points to win 27 24. The last 17 points came in the final minute of the game. Boise state capped a lengthy drive with a 13 yard pass form dinwiddie to Jerry smith with 48 sec left and then trailed 24-17. Their onside attempt failed and they thought the game was over as they only had 1 timeout left. But, on the next play Julius Brown picked off Ryan Schneider and returned it 61 yards for a TD with 34 sec left in the game, tying the game at 24. UCF got the ball back and opted to try to score with half a minute but instead handed the broncos their first win of the year when Ryan Schneider was picked again by Terrial Hall who returned it to the 2 yard line. Ryan Dinwiddie ran the clock down to 2 seconds by taking a knee and then Tyler Jones kicked the game winning 21 yard field goal as time expired. The entire city of Orlando is in shock but this reporter thinks the Broncos are even more suprised. UCF passing attack was virtually perfect until the last 2 passes. Boise State's defense played well in the 2nd half to make this amazing comeback possible recording 6 sacks and forcing 3 turnovers.

SHOOTOUT IN VEGAS
Luke Powell and the Cardinal rolled the dice in Vega and won in 2 OTs 45-42

LAS VEGAS, NV: UNLV and Stanford started their seasons with a bang and not a whimper. The Stanford Cardinal opened their season with a 2OT shootout win; 45-42. The game started like two prize fighters each landing haymaker after haymaker on the other. Neither team punted in the first half and both teams thrived on big plays. Stanford QB Chris Lewis would finish his day 14/27 for 296yds 3tds 4int. UNLV QB Kurt Nantkes was 16/34 for 291yds 3td and 1INT. Stanford LB Michael Craven was his teams player of the game, notching 5 sacks! Both teams couldn't be stopped in the 1st half... the 3rd quarter was a different story. Stanford went 3 consecutive possessions in the 3rd Quarter throwing an Interception, but their solid D performed well as they forced 2 punts and a INT in that same period. UNLV went up by 6 midway through the 4th as Stanford hadn't scored since the middle of the 2nd. Suddenly a light clicked on inside the Cardinal offense. They marched down the field and scored on a 43yd run by RB Kenneth Tolon II , who finished the game with 14 carries for 94yds and 2TDs. The Cardinal then forced a Rebel punt and scored on a 1yd punch by FB Emeka Nnoli with just over a minute to play. The Rebels down 8 would score with less than 30 seconds left on a 38yd pass from Nantkes to WR Earvin "Magic" Johnson and then convert the 2. In overtime both teams would trade scores. Then the Rebels opened the 2nd OT and were stymied by the Cardinal D. Forced to go for it on 4 and 15 from the 30 the Rebels were unable to convert the 4th. The Cardinal then setup a 25yd FG by K Michael Srgoi, to put a cap on the crazy festivities. Coach JeffMo in his post game press conference said "Lewis looked good, and he looked like crap all in the same game. Our defense played a helluva game. 42 points! Are you kidding me! I don't know how we turned the ball over 5 times and won this game."
