CHEERLEADER DIES
August 10, 2005
In Medford, Mass Ashley Burns, age 14, died after a practice drill with her cheerleading squad. Ashley, who stood 4' 9" and weighed a mere 90 pounds, was a flyer girl. She was one of the girls that gets thrown into the air during the routines. While practicing around 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday Ashley was trying to execute a "double down" stunt with three other girls. The stunt called for her to be tossed into the air and to comple two turns and land on her back in her teammates' arms. The reports are that Ashley landed on her stomach instead of her back. She did not land on the ground. Afterwards, She complained of shortness of breath and abdominal pain. Someone had then called 911. She was then taken to Saints Memorial Hospital in Lowell, Mass. At around 6 p.m. she died.
Please take a moment in reverence of Ashley Burns. A young, and inspiring cheergirl of Medford, Mass.
