They Were Not Growing |
| |
A couple once told me they felt they were not growing as they should. They did not enjoy the worship, couldn’t sit in Bible classes and all in all they felt they were not getting anything much from their religion.
Further discussion disclosed that they were not Bible readers, they did not pray in their home, they never even tried to prepare a Bible lesson, and had never made a visit in their lives! Is it any wonder they were not growing? What would have made them grow? Christian growth comes from effort. Bible study is enjoyed by those who hunger and thirst after righteousness. We do not grow upward because we have never put roots downward. We grow outwardly when we are nourished inwardly!
YOU ARE GROWING IN CHRIST AND YOU ENJOY A HAPPIER WAY OF LIFE WHEN YOU:
1. Assemble at the appointed time with the saints of God.
2. Attend Bible classes regularly.
3. Give to God a part of your time.
4. Give to God according to your prosperity.
5. Pray to God daily.

| I Missed Church...But God Understands! |
Quite often, when
people are encouraged to put aside whatever is preventing them from
attending services regularly, they will say, “Well, I really should be
there, but I think God understands!”
God has gone on record in Heb. 10:25 as saying, “Not forsaking the
assembling…” He does not understand why some of His people willfully
hold to habits of forsaking the assembly! God does understand that we
need to meet to praise Him and study His word. God understands that
others need the encouragement of our presence, we are a family that He
put together. He does understand group fellowship, the power of people
meeting together for mutual strengthening.
But do we understand those things? Many times we do not – and that is
why so many allow Satan to bring one little excuse after another into
our lives until we are separated from our God and His assembly.
Let us pray that God will help us to understand the need, the purpose,
and the power of attendance Bible classes and worship services whenever
the doors are open. Let us pray for the courage to do our part in making
the gathering of saints a time of love, praise, and spiritual growth!
It is a matter of spiritual life and death, really, not only for us, but
also for others whom we are influencing. Think about it!

| HABIT |
The only way to get rid of a bad habit is to stop it at once. If
you try tapering off, this is the result. You drop the “H” and you
still have…
A Bit.
You think you are
getting over it by dropping a little bit of the evil thing, so you go on
and drop the “A.” But you still are…
Bit.
That is to say, you are
not getting on at all. You are deceiving yourself. You are just where
you were. You are still bitten by the evil thing. However, you think
you are progressing and so you drop the “B.” But you still lack; you
still have…
It.
“It” is the sting of
habit. “It” has been the trouble all along. You are where you
started. Even when you drop the “I” you still have…
T.
Which stands for
temptation. And temptation is a longer word to get rid of than habit.
Better do the “wholesale” and drop all the letters at once.
“Dearly beloved, I
beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from flesh lusts, which
war against the soul.” (I Peter 2:11)
