The English Cocker Spaniel is a wonderful little dog. Big enough to be a playful companion yet small enough to pick up and carry. I have always maintained that the English Cocker Spaniel is the best kept secret in the dog world.
My husband Rick grew up with English Cocker Spaniels in his life and he introduced me to this breed. I fell in love with them when we bought our first puppy Riley, from Lynne Bamford of Joyousgarde Registered Kennel in 1998. We have been involved with this breed ever since. We purchased our second puppy, Oscar in 2000. With the purchase of Oscar a new phase in our life began as we started showing and breeding dogs. Oscar, Cdn. Ch. Joyousgarde Our Chance for Joy, completed his Championship in November 2002.
As a stud dog, Oscar to date has sired 10 litters of beautiful puppies.
Oscar is an Optigen A1, FN clear male with normal hips.
Gracie, completed our little family when we purchased her from Noel Hynds of Autumnfire Registered Kennel in December 2002. Gracie, Cdn Ch. Autumfire’s Graceful earned her Championship at the United Kennel Club Dog Show in Montreal November 2004. Since that time Cockerlea has produced 4 litters out of Oscar and Gracie and 2 Canadian Champions – Cdn CH. Cockerlea’s Heart of Mine, (Sydney) in 2006 and Cdn CH. Cockerlea’s Full of Promises (Indy) in 2007.
Sydney, CH. Cockerlea's Heart of Mine is a lovely blue roan female that we kept from our second litter. Syd recognized this as her home right away and quickly bonded with Rick.
Sydney was bred November 2008 to a lovely orange roan male Jazz, CH Cedarstone's Jazz de Malysse. On January 14, 2009 Sydney whelped 6 female pups.
Our newest addition to the family is Poppy, Cockerlea's Ebony and Ivory, a black and white female out of Sydney and Jazz's litter. Poppy simply charmed us all and then stole our hearts. In her few months with us Poppy has become a family favourite with children and adults alike. She is an active puppy who loves to play and has even charmed Grampa Oscar and Uncle Riley into watching over her.
When I started my breeding program, Jean Tremblay a man I admire and respect gave me the following advice - “If I was seriously going to breed and sell puppies, I must remember I had a responsibility; that I was to make certain that every puppy was placed into a good home.” I can proudly say that all of our puppies have gone to wonderful people and excellent homes.
Our breeding program is focused on temperament and health.
