What Do We Do?

Officially, the remit of a Community Council is:

‘To ascertain, co-ordinate and express to the Local Authority, and to public authorities,
the views of the community it represents, and to take such action in the interests
of that community as appears to it to be expedient and practicable.’

The above definition only tells half the story. Read on to find out all
about the activities of Cockenzie and Port Seton Community Council.

The Community Council meets on the first Tuesday of every month at 7.3Opm
in the Port Seton Centre. All meetings are attended by our 2 local councillors
and the Community policeman. All meetings are open to the public.

The Community Council is funded by East Lothian Council in 3 ways:
      • 1. An Annual Administration Grant
      • 2. A Local Priorities Allocation
      • 3. A Capital Improvements Grant.

This is augmented by our own fund raising efforts.

Sub-committees

Much of the work of the Community Council is done by sub-groups
and sub-committees.

Any interested member of the public can join a sub-committee.

At present, the 2 main sub-committees are:
      • Cockenzie and Port Seton In Bloom
      • Christmas Lights fund raising committee

Cockenzie and Port Seton Community Council was voted
Calor Gas Scottish Community Of the Year in 2002
