Equestrian Club Team

Welcome to the homepage of the Equestrian Team of Central Michigan University.

The Equestrian Team is a Club Sport here at CMU as well as a Registered Student Organization (RSO). We compete through the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) against other Michigan colleges and universities. Our team shows in two different disciplines: Hunt Seat and Stock Seat. We are members of IHSA's Zone 6 Region 4.

Riders who are interested in joining the Equestrian Team of Central Michigan University are required to take a minimum of bi-weekly lessons with the team's coaches. Riders do not need their own horse for practice or for shows. Since the Equestrian Team is a club sport at CMU, we are primarily self financed so members should expect the team require some costs.

Shows are run quite differently from most other types of competition. Horses are provided by the host school and riders participate in a random draw to find out which horse they ride. They then mount immediately before their class, adjust their stirrups, and enter the ring. Riders do not get warm-up time and are typically unfamilliar with their draws.

The Equestrian Team of CMU is currently in search of a coach for our stock seat team. If you are interested in filling this position, please contact the team at cmuet@cmich.edu. We are looking for someone who can instruct us in western pleasure horsemanship with horses and a facility available for lessons and a wilingness to travel to shows and be involved in team activities.
