I plan to add a bosses chapter at some point.

Note: If this is your first time using this Bestiary, check out the sample entry below to better understand the Bestiary format.

Picture: Click the link included here to see a picture of the creature.

Info: Some basic information about the enemy and how to tackle them in battle.

Danger Rating: This will be out of five stars (with 1 being pretty harmless to 5 being a real tough nut.) If this rating is split for some reason (i.e. */**) or such is shown, there will be an explanation for this spilt in brackets next to the rating.

Locations: This part tells you some of the places where you will encounter this creature.

[See Also:] Not all entries will have this, but those that do will contain direct links to any entry that holds a similarity to the one you're viewing. (e.g. Wolfos & White Wolfos.)

Anubis

Picture: Anubis

Info: The Anubis is a large snake that resembles the look of a cobra. It silently glides along waiting for a moment to strike at Link. This rare beast is also invulnerable to certain attacks, so beware. Anubis is best disposed of with fire arrows.

Danger Rating: ***

Locations: Spirit Temple.

Armos

Picture: Armos

Info: Armos appear to be lifeless statues at first but if Link comes into contact with one, it comes to life. Armos hop and ram into Link and some wear spiked rings around their lower body. If stuck by Link's sword, an Armos will simultaneously hop and spin at Link until it eventually self-destructs.

Danger Rating: ***

Locations: Dodongos Cavern, Wind Temple.

Baby Dodongo

Picture: Baby Dodongo

Info: Baby Dodongos are very small and vunerable but carry a surprise self-destruct defence mechanism if killed. They usually burrow up to the surface in front of Link from underground in small groups to launch a surprise attack. Any of Link's weapons should easily deal with a Baby Dodongo.

Danger Rating: *

Locations: Dodongos Cavern.

See Also: Dodongo.

Bari

Picture: Bari

Info: Bari are large jellyfish that split up into two or three smaller jellyfish once attacked. Bari's main defence is an electrical field which surrounds it, hurting Link if he comes into contact with it. These foes are only found inside Jabu Jabu's belly and even then they are a rare sight. Bari uses the element of surprise to a great extent in its attacks by dropping down from above onto Link. Bari are best attacked from a distance once located.

Danger Rating: **

Locations: Jabu Jabu's Belly.

See Also: Biri.

Sponsors

Biri

Picture: Biri

Info: Biri are smaller than Bari and again are only found in Jabu Jabu's belly. They float around however, unlike Bari and hurt Link with an electric shock if he attacks them with his sword directly or simply touches them. Biri are found in greater number than Bari and are best dealt with quickly by the boomerang.

Danger Rating: */** (without boomerang)

Locations: Jabu Jabu's Belly.

See Also: Bari.

Black Boe

Picture: Black Boe

Info: Black Boes are very strange little creatures that have no limbs. They just appear to have a pair of eyes shrouded in a black mist. They tend to attack Link in large numbers, but each Black Boe can easily be seen off by just about any of Link's weapons. Unsurprising they enjoy gathering together in dark and dank areas.

Danger Rating: */** (in large numbers)

Locations: Woodfall Temple, Ikana Well.

Blue Bubble

Picture: Blue Bubble

Info: Blue Bubbles are flying skulls shrouded in a cursed blue mist. If Link comes into contact with the mist, he is cursed and cannot attack with his sword. The best tactic is to despose of the mist with a projectile attack before moving in to strike the skull with Link's sword.

Danger Rating: **

Locations: Earth Temple, Termina Field (Night)

See Also: Red Bubble.

Blue Tektite

Picture: Blue Tektite

Info: This species of Tektite is stronger than its red relative and is usually sighted near bodies of water such as Lake Hylia. Arrows are a good way to attack the Blue Tektite from a distance as they can only harm Link if he is close-by. Failing this, lure a Blue Tektite onto the land and slice them with sword attacks.

Danger Rating: **

Locations: Lake Hylia, Zora's River.

Bokoblin

Picture: Bokoblin

Info: Bokoblins are fairly weak underlings of Ganon. They tend to fight with sticks or swords but will attempt to fight hand-to-hand if unarmed. Even in groups of three or four, Bokoblins are easy to dispose of with a few sword swipes. Some Bokoblins carry light, wooden shields.

Danger Rating: **

Locations: Dragon Roost Cavern, Forsaken Fortress.

Sponsors

Darknut

Picture: Darknut

Info: Darknuts are quite powerful adversaries and are usually encountered in groups of two or three. They use large, rigged swords as their main weapon and also sport heavy defensive armour. However, they are seriously slowed down due to that armour and have a hard time catching Link. For this reason, Darknuts are usually found in more confined spaces, sometimes gaurding precious items. They carry Knights Crests which Link must collect to properly master the hero's sword.

Danger Rating: ***

Locations: Hyrule Castle, Savage Labyrinth.

See Also: Mighty Darknut.

Deku Baba

Picture: Deku Baba

Info: Deku Babas are weak, plant-like enemies who try to bite Link. They can only sustain one or two blows of Link's sword as a maximum before perishing. Most Deku Babas will leave behind deku sticks or a deku nut.

Danger Rating: *

Locations: The Great Deku Tree, Southern Swamp.

Dodongo

Picture: Dodongo

Info: These fearsome, fire-breathing foes are slow but very powerful. Their thick skin protects them from most attacks but their tail proves to be their only weak point once exposed. Defend with Link's shield before attacking its huge tail.

Danger Rating: ****

Locations: Dodongos Cavern, Termina Field (Snowhead Side)

See Also: Baby Dodongo.

Fire Keese

Picture: Fire Keese

Info: A flaming variant of the regular bat species. The attack pattern of a Fire Keese does not differ greatly from that of a regular Keese, but if it strikes Link he will take extra damage and be set ablaze briefly. If Link is equipped with a Deku Shield when a Fire Keese strikes him it will burn to ashes, so be weary. The best tactics are to block a Fire Keese assault with Link's shield (not Deku shield however) and then deliver a killing blow with his sword before the Keese gets a chance to regain its elemental properties by flying through a flame. If a Fire Keese is not in close range, use the Bow and Arrow or Boomerang.

Danger Rating: **

Locations: Fire Temple, Fire Mountain, Dodongos Cavern.

See Also: Ice Keese, Keese.

Freezard

Picture: Freezard

Info: Freezards are living chunks of ice that cannot move freely, but rather rotate to face Link and blow their freezing breath at him. If Link comes into contact with this, he will become instantly frozen and suffer substancial damage. A Freezard can be shattered by Link's sword, but are often positioned on inaccessable platforms and out of Link's reach.

Danger Rating: **

Locations: Snowhead Temple, Ice Cavern.

Gibdo

Picture: Gibdo

Info: These mummified foes are found primarily in Ikana Canyon; located in Termina. They are extremely slow moving but will petrify Link with their gaze before moving in to attack. Although few in number, Gibdo are still to be avoided at all costs. They are related to the ReDead, another of Link's many enemies.

Danger Rating: ***

Locations: Ikana Canyon, Shadow Temple.

See Also: ReDead.

Hiploop

Picture: Hiploop

Info: Hiploops charge at Link at full pelt whenever they see him. This is particularly unfortunate as they are often found on narrow ledges and can therefore knock him off of platforms. The most tried and tested tactic is to shield the charge and then hit home with the sword in close range or use a projectile weapon for a reduced risk of a fall.

Danger Rating: **

Locations: Woodfall.

Ice Keese

Picture: Ice Keese

Info: A frosty variant of the loathed bat family, Ice Keese are few in number but nasty when encountered. Upon contact with an Ice Keese, Link will become frozen solid inside an prison of ice for a few seconds and suffer repeated damage until he breaks out again. Shoot these pests from a distance with a long distance weapon (i.e. Bow or Boomerang) or block those in closer range to nullify the ice element before countering with a decisive sword blow.

Danger Rating: **

Locations: Ice Cavern.

See Also: Fire Keese, Keese.

Iron Knuckle

Picture: Iron Knuckle

Info: Axe-wielding enemies who are both slow and imensely powerful. Their heavy armour also makes them very worthy opposition indeed. Iron Knuckles are often instructed by Ganon to guard valuable artefacts. Iron Knuckles usually attack alone, however groups of two or three together have been known.

Danger Rating: *****

Locations: Ganon's Tower.

Kargorok

Picture: Kargorok

Info: Kargoroks are birds which are found soaring around small islands and ruling the skys. If Link comes to close to a Kargorok or its nest, he could suffer a serious pecking! Kargoroks are regularly found in large numbers, circling their victims before attacking. Once Link defeats a Kargorok he may receive a golden feather for his troubles. 20 of these can be exchange for a piece of heart on Dragon Roost Island, which also has its fair share of Kargoroks.

Danger Rating: **

Locations: Dragon Roost Island, Rock Spire Island.

Keese

Picture: Keese

Info: Keese are pesky, blood-thirsty bats that hassle Link throughout most of his quests. As they can fly, Keese are best tackled from a distance with the bow and arrow or alternatively a combination of Link's sword and shield should do the trick in close range. Keese use the element of surprise to their advantage by flying out of Link's range before homing in on him when he doesn't suspect it. Even so, their attack is not at all potent.

Danger Rating: *

Locations: Dragon Roost Cavern, Dodongos Cavern, Various Caves.

See Also: Fire Keese, Ice Keese.

Leever

Picture: Leever

Info: Leevers are burrowing pests that chase after Link. They are most commonly found in deserts or other sandy areas. The main species is green, although other colours do exist. If Link defeats enough Leevers, a huge Leever will burrow up from under the sand and attack him. These larger varients also have higher stamina in battle.

Danger Rating: **/*** (Larger variants)

Locations: Desert Colossus, Great Bay.

Like Like

Picture: Like Like

Info: Like Likes are found in most of Link's adventures and have a certain liking to swallowing him whole before proceeding to rob him of one of his most precious items and finally spitting him out again with painful consequences. Blocking and countering Like Like attacks seems to be the most effective tactic to adopt when taking one on. If a Like Like swallows one of your items, you must defeat it to retrieve it again.

Danger Rating: ***

Locations: Great Bay, Shadow Temple.

Lizalfos

Picture: Lizalfos

Info: A Lizalfos is quite a weak opponent in terms of its defensive capabilities but it has some strong attack power. It attacks with a simple yet decent sword strike and can jump to quite an impressive height and length. Lizalfos are most often found in pairs and block routeways in some of the early dungeons in Link's quest.

Danger Rating: **

Locations: Fire Temple, Water Temple. Dodongos Cavern.

Mad Scrub

Picture: Mad Scrub

Info: Deku Scrubs that are loyal to Ganon. They attack by spitting deku nuts at link but these can simply be put to use by having Link deflect them back at a Mad Scrub. If Link closes in on a Mad Scrub, it will hide in the grass until it is safe to attack once more. Once Link startles a Mad Scrub it will run around until it is defeated or can retreat to its patch of grass.

Danger Rating: **

Locations: Kokiri Forest, Deku Palace.

Mighty Darknut

Picture: Mighty Darknut

Info: Mighty Darknuts are very similar to Darknuts but (you've guessed it) more formidable. The only significant difference is that Mighty Darknuts wear capes which protect the vunerable armour straps on their back. The best method to take one out is to burn the cape with a fire arrow before resuming the usual tactics for facing a regular Darknut. These stronger Darknuts still carry the all important Knights Crest for Link to gather.

Danger Rating: ****

Locations: Savage Labyrinth.

See Also: Darknut.

Moblin

Picture: Moblin

Info: Moblins are one of Ganon's most faithful minions and tend to attack in small groups. They are powerful adversaries but are weakly armoured and therefore fodder for Link's Master Sword a lot of the time. Most Moblins carry long spears which they use to ram Link. Some Moblins have been known to attack with large clubs instead of spears but these are rarely seen.

Danger Rating: ***

Locations: Forsaken Fortress, Hyrule Castle, Sacred Forest Meadow.

Moldorm

Picture: Moldorm

Info: Moldorm are strange looking caterpillar like creatures that move extremely quickly. Moldorm have no real sense of direction and tend to crash into walls and solid objects head on before hurriedly changing course. Moldorm can be quite problematic for Link if they are encountered in vast numbers, but thankfully only small groups are usually seen. If possible, it is a good idea to take out Moldorm from a distance. If there are many in an enclosed space, Link may take a lot of damage.

Danger Rating: **

Locations: Tower of Hera.

Octorok

Picture: Octorok

Info: Octoroks are found in rivers and oceans and spit rocks at Link. Link's deku shield can deflect rocks balls back to the Octorok to defeat it. If Link gets to close, an Octorok will dive back underwater to safety. The sea-dwelling cousins of the river Octorok tend to spit bombs at link instead of rocks.

Danger Rating: **

Locations: Zora's River, Forest Haven, Ikana Canyon, Jabu Jabu's Belly.

Peahat

Picture: Peahat

Info: Peahats are primarily found in grassy areas of Hyrule, but have also been discovered in small numbers underground in Termina. These plant-like foes attack with rotating blades, which they also use to hover above the ground. Link must take great care to shield himself when approaching the blades before striking the Peahat's weak underside.

Danger Rating: ***

Locations: Hyrule Field, Forbidden Woods, Termina Field (Below Ground)

Poe

Picture: Poe

Info: Poe ghosts are found lurking in graveyards or around Hyrule Field but are still are rare sight. They attack Link with torches or lanterns. Poes disappear and re-appear at will, making them an unpredictable opponent. There are four Poe Sisters who haunt the Forest Temple in Hyrule. Once defeated, ordinary Poes leave a spirit which Link can store in a bottle and sell for rupees.

Danger Rating: ***

Locations: Kakariko Graveyard, Forest Temple.

Red Bubble

Picture: Red Bubble

Info: Another member of the Bubble family, this variant is shrouded by fire. For this reason, they are found in pits of fire and jump out to surprise Link before attempting to burn him. The best course of action is to simply evade Red Bubbles as their habitat is extremely dangerous! If you choose to attack one, try to block it before trying to strike in order to rid the Red Bubble of its fiery mist.

Danger Rating: ***

Locations: Snowhead Temple, Fire Temple, Shadow Temple, Tower of the Gods.

See Also: Blue Bubble.

ReDead

Picture: ReDead

Info: ReDead are horrible zombie-esque creatures that roam in only the most evil and dark places in Hyrule. Avoid these blood-thirsty foes wherever possible as if one sees Link it will petrify him with its gaze before leaping on his back and trying to suck out his inards. If you do decide to take one on, be cautious and attack from behind to avoid becoming petrified. ReDeads require several sword strikes before they will 'die' and are often found in groups of between three and seven or so at a time. These nasty beasts are not to be taken lightly.

Danger Rating: ****

Locations: Beneath the Well, Ancient Castle of Ikana, Ganon's Tower.

See Also: Gibdo.

Skulltula

Picture: Skulltula

Info: Skulltulas, as their name implies, are spiders that have taken the form of a skull. They drop down on Link to use a spinning attack. Their weak spot however is their soft underbelly. If Link gets an attack in here, a Skulltula does well to survive. Some of Link's most powerful weapons can actually penetrate the skull itself.

Danger Rating: **

Locations: The Great Deku Tree, Shadow Temple, Forest Temple.

Snapper

Picture: Snapper

Info: Snappers are spinning turtles that try and ram into Link with sharp blades. They have extremely hard shells, so the best way to tackle one is to hop into a nearby Deku Flower and attack their underside when they hurtle across. Failing that, a bomb or two will suffice.

Danger Rating: ***

Locations: Woods of Mystery, Woodfall Temple.

Stalfos

Picture: Stalfos

Info: Fighting Skeletons armed with a sword and defensive shield. Stalfos are usually in groups of two or three when launching an attack. If one Stalfos is defeated and another survives long enough, it can come back to life and attack again. Approach them with great caution.

Danger Rating: ****

Locations: Forest Temple, Water Temple, Shadow Temple, Earth Temple.

Takkuri

Picture: Takkuri

Info: Takkuri is an evil bird that flys menacingly above Termina Field. If Link strays too close to the Takkuri's territory, the bird will swoop down and if it comes into contact with Link it will snatch one of his important items. To get the item back, Link must defeat the Takkuri before it escapes or the game must be reset in order to regain it. Also of note is the Takkuri's impressive stamina as it takes plenty of arrows to shoot down. If Link does this however, his reward is a shiny orange rupee worth 200 regular green rupees! Takkuri is also the name given to vulture-like creatures encountered in deserts where they circle their foes before swooping in to attack.

Danger Rating: ****

Locations: Desert of Doubt, Termina Field.

Wallmaster

Picture: Wallmaster

Info: Wallmasters are one of the most loathed enemies that Link encounters in dungeons as they have an extremely annoying move - sending Link back to the dungeon entrance. This can prove very frustrating if you have reached to the very farthest reaches of a dungeon, only to be transported back to the beginning. What's more, Wallmasters are surprise attackers! If Link stands still for too long, a large shadow will befall upon him and unless he moves out of the way quickly he will find himself at the mercy of a Wallmaster.

Danger Rating: ****

Locations: Forest Temple, Spirit Temple, Ikana Well.

White Wolfos

Picture: White Wolfos

Info: A very close relative of the Wolfos, White Wolfos are found in icy regions such as Snowhead in Termina. White Wolfos can easily block Link's sword attacks when circling him, so the best move is to wait for a White Wolfos to attack, block it and then counter while it is vunerable. White Wolfos are faster at moving and also quicker at evading Link's attacks than regular Wolfos.

Danger Rating: ***

Locations: Snowhead, Snowhead Temple.

See Also: Wolfos.

Wizrobe

Picture: Wizrobe

Info: Wizrobes are wizard-like foes which use their magical skills against Link. Not unlike Poes, they can disappear and then re-appear whenever they want. Because of this, Link must be very alert when facing one. Their main form of attack is to shoot fire at Link but some, more experienced Wizrobes can summon smaller minions to help them. When in groups and even singlely, Wizrobes are worthy opponents.

Danger Rating: ***

Locations: Snowhead Temple, Ancient Castle of Ikana, Wind Temple.

Wolfos

Picture: Wolfos

Info: Wolfos are wolves that try to strike Link with their dangerous claws. They can be found in many places all over Hyrule, but seem to make their home in the woodland areas. Not only do Wolfos have an impressive attack, they can also block Link's sword strikes. Wolfos tend to attack in pairs or threes, but have been known to fight alone.

Danger Rating: ***

Locations: Sacred Forest Meadow, Forest Temple, Snowhead.

See Also: White Wolfos.
