The Legend of Zelda Series was created by the legendary games designer Shigeru Miyamoto (whose other works include the world-reknowned Super Mario Bros. Series.) The first game in the series, simply titled The Legend of Zelda, was first published for the NES (Nintendo Entertainment System) in February 1986. Since then, the series has grown to an impressive number of games (11 currently with a further 3 in production.) Go to my Zelda Series page for further details on each individual game.
The series made the crucial leap from 2D to 3D graphics in the fifth installment of the series - Ocarina of Time for the Nintendo 64 console. This game is regarded by many to be the best of the series and many also see it as an extremely worthy contender for the title of 'Best Game Ever.' The series as a whole is one of the most popular videogame series ever along with other such greats as the Super Mario Bros. and Final Fantasy franchises to name two.
Almost every game in the Zelda series sees the hero, always known as Link although it has been confirmed that it is not the same person in every game, saving a damsel in distress (Princess Zelda of the series title) from an evil force (usually the most prominant villian of the series known either as Ganon or Ganondorf.) The reason behind the two names is to distinguish between his two forms - pig and human. In his human form, he is known as Ganondorf whereas in his pig-like transformation (which makes him considerabley more powerful and formidable) he is known as Ganon.
One notable exception to this plot is the storyline from the fourth Zelda game Link's Awakening. This saw Link become shipwrecked on Koholint Island where he had to awaken the legendary Wind Fish. This game was the first portable outing for the series and proved very popular among fans, so much so in fact that a Deluxe version was released for the Gameboy Color which featured an extra dungeon and full color graphics!
The next installment of the franchise is as eagerly awaited as ever, perhaps even more so. The reasoning behind all of this hype is the switch back to Ocarina of Time/Majora's Mask era realistic graphics as opposed to the extremely controversial cel-shading techniquies used in the last home console outing The Wind Waker. The objective as stated by the creators of this new game, namely The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, is to better Ocarina of Time - the overuling fan favourite. Whther or not this will be achieved is the currently the cause of much discussion.
Following this 12th game of the series, a further 2 are currently known about. One of these is for the Nintendo DS console, but very little information has been provided about how the game will utalise the unique features of the DS (the touch screen, twin screens and microphone capabilities of the system would be completely new to the series. The final known game in production is going to be released for the upcoming Nintendo Revolution console and has simply been tentatively titled 'Zelda Revolution.' There are currently no details at all regarding this game apart from that it is in production.

Woods of Mystery started off on 21st January 2004 as my second ever endeavour into the world of web design (my first being NintendoNation.) Back then, Woods of Mystery was known as ClocktownCentral. This explains why the site address still has clocktowncentral in it. However, due to a dispute about this name (since unknown to me there was already a Zelda site with that name) I needed to change it. So I did; to The Great Deku Tree's Meadow. This second name lasted literally only a few days however as I came up with the name Woods of Mystery and preferred it. After a conversation or two with some associates, who agreed, the new name was decided ad it has now stuck.
The original ClocktownCentral website was far less complex than the one you see today as it held only a very straightforward green motif as its design and was based around the idea of keeping much of its content under lock and key in members only areas. This was soon proving far to restrictive and so I knew that big changes needed to be made. The idea of visitors earning virtual rupees for interacting with the site and then being able to spend them also flopped, so was quickly dropped to make way for version 2.0.
As I mentioned above this version was originally called The Great Deku Tree's Meadow, but was then briskly changed to Woods of Mystery. The name has stuck ever since, but the design of the old 2.0 version was quite different to the one I'm using now. The older design consisted of a green background with leaves and foliage at the top and a similarly themed Navigation Bar to the left. This design has been the one that has lasted for most of the websites' life so far after the brief 1.0 design and this recent version 3.0 design you see now.
Over the course of its life, the site has seen many pages come and go. I'd advise you to check out the Graveyard page to learn more about these past ideas to get a feel for what things used to be like. As you can see the current iteration of the website has the largest amount of sections and pages in the websites' history and I'm certain that it will continue to grow now that the new design and layout has been firmed established. Just because certain things are kept and others discarded doesn't mean that those are lost are lost forever. Just check my Graveyard and Updates Archive to see little parts of the older designs that still remain in the current design.
Visitor-wise, the website has been intermittent in the past. However, I am now making my best effort ever to give you all plenty of reasons to come back. Most things are still in the relatively early stages at the moment, but I am confident the website as a whole will provide a great service in the weeks and months to come. Finally, I would like to that those that have stuck with the site through thick and thin and remained loyal visitors.
