Climbing for Cancer Research

Help in the Collection of Cyanobacteria to be used in Cancer Research

The first step in utilizing cyanobacteria as a source for novel compounds that can be used in cancer research, is the collection of these bacterial strains.   Cyanobacteria is blue green algae or more commonly known as pond scum.  It can grow anywhere, but the environment that it grows in changes the chemistry of the bacteria, making that strain unique to that environment.  What we need is diverse strains from everywhere.  This is where you the climber comes into play.  We are asking you to become our collection team.  When you go on your climbing trip take a free sample kit with you and scrape some scum off of a cliff, or scoop some from a pond or lake you might pass on your way to the crag.  All locations are accepted and when you are done simply mail back the samples to Dr. Orjala 's laboratory free of charge.

I f you are interested in this program and would like to ask a few questions and recieve a sample kit please contact us through this website or at msturd2@gmail.com.
