2009 Open Horse Show

OHC ~ FoF Horse Show A Success - Club Earns Over $1100

The club hosted a horse show in conjunction with the Friends of the Fair, a volunteer group dedicated to improving livestock facilities at the fairgrounds.  Their current project is the new 4H equestrian pavilion. We decided to ask them to join us on the horse show to offset the amount of money needed to arrange the show. A committee was formed to provide for the details of the show, and the show was held on Saturday, July 18.

We couldn't have asked for a prettier day, it was sunny and in the 70's. Thanks to the excellent publicity work done by Kate Gough,  Lawana Bogard, Dasie & others the parking lot was soon filled with excited competitors.  Classes got underway & soon smiling kids were winning trophies & ribbons.  Other winners chose their own prizes selecting from several styles of engraved sterling silverplate belt buckles, or beautiful 1.5 carat gemstone earrings, peridot amethyst & others.  Adult winners received gift cards to Butterbee's restaurant in Mt. Orab.  Winners in the trail classes won  TSC gift cards & trail T shirts.   Throughout the day  we were excited & proud to see so many of our members turning out to show  their horses.  Chris Heink, Jenny Montgomery, Ellen McPhillips & her little sister Lindsay, Rachel Ballinger, Pam Rose & Dave Federle, Peggy Sulken, Brittany Panno, Jeanette & Jerry Wyatt, as well as the Todd & Krista Morris family & a group of Stephanie's boarders & riding students from Hensley Stables all represented the club in the ring, many winning ribbons.  We were proud of all of our club competitors, and we hope more members will consider showing at future OHC events.

Throughout the entire day photographer Keli Bruns was shooting pictures & offering portraits.  We really appreciate Keli volunteering her time & talents.  You can view pictures of the show & order prints at  www.kelibrunsphotography.com - click on Equine, then Galleries, then look for th OHC FoF Show.  There are pages & pages, some great shots of club members!  Keli has great prices on prints, you may want to consider her for your future photographic needs.

The club was thrilled to have so many members volunteering.  Lawana Bogard & Kate Gough were assisted by Patty Robinson, Patti Kanis, Dasie, Corie & others taking entries & assuring that trophies, ribbons & prizes went out as needed.  Ellie Sands & Corie assisted our announcer, Juanita Benton and the booth ran efficiently throughout the day, thanks gals!  Ron Sands & Felicia Bolton served as Ringmasters and Ron & Ellie Sands, Ken & Dee Meinken, Eric Schulte, Marty Robinson, Jack Masterson, Patty R & Patti K and others all worked shifts on the gates, THANK YOU so much to all of  them & the others who helped & donated pop & food items, we couldn't have had the show without you.   A net profit of over $2300 was divided with the Friends of the Fair, with the club keeping $1150.  Again a BIG THANKS to everyone who supported the club in so many ways, our members are the BEST!
