THIS IS A VERY IMPORTANT QUESTION

The answer  varies for each dog and is dependant on the size and build of the dogs breed or crossbreed. 

IMPORTANT WARNING - Long term damage can be done to growing bones and muscle developement if your dog starts agility equipment training at a young age.  

  GUIDE TO YOUR DOGS SKELETAL MATURITY

• SMALL  BREEDS  -  8/12 months                                                                                   Yorkshire Terrier, Border Terrier, Minature Poodle, etc                                     Any breed or cross breed, approx 13 inches at the shoulder.    
• MEDIUM BREEDS - 12/ 16 months                                                                            Border Collie, Labrador, Standard Schnauzer, etc                                                           Any breed or cross breed, approx 18/20 inches at shoulder.
• LARGE BREEDS  -   16/ 24 months, approx 20 inches and above                                 German Shepards, Standard Poodle, etc
• GIANT BREED   -   Agility is not suitable for the majority of Giant breeds.                      Great Dane, St Bernard, New Foundland etc

Agility foundation skills and Introduction work can in some cases commence earlier;  equipment may also be used at this point, but only under the supervision and guidance of an experienced agility instructor.

As well a minimum age, the is also a maximum age, again this will vary on your dogs breed or cross breed, however you should also take into consideration your olders dog health and fitness. A quick checkup by your vet is advised for older dogs
