Being Ripped Off On The Internet - For 41 CentsOf course one of the problems with our online society is the scam artists. Criticizing the professional the con artist, scammer, or grafter is needless. It’s the small time or tawdry crook that is most offensive to me. A good example is the e-Bay trader jstormsfatdeals, or ibstorm03@aol.com. We recently purchased some Pokémon cards in a deal he said would include at least three rares and no duplicates. After paying the following day is when the troubles started: · There was only one rare card, not three. · We got duplicates. · He didn’t mail the order until a full week after getting paid. · It was two weeks before he responded to any e-mails. “Thank you for your patience. I will mail out two rares today.” Another two weeks (actually 19 days) and two e-mails from me netted the “Sorry for the delay. We will mail your rare out today. Thank you for your business” note. · In response to me leaving a bad review, he retaliated with a bad review of his own and then offers to cancel the review if I canceled mine. Not that it mattered at this point. I realized four weeks prior he wasn’t going to do anything. We’re hardly dealing with a master criminal here, or even some that’s very bright. I don’t believe any of this is planned or malicious. Rather, I think he is sloppy and unconcerned about his work. This guy’s just a cheap and habitual thief that takes advantage of the system when it suits him. We do not need to look beyond his e-Bay record to conclude this. The pattern is the same. Here’s a sampling of his record.
He either doesn’t complete the order, or is slow or never responds. Jstormsfatdeals may be a legitimate seller. Although don't be fooled. He has above a 95% published good rating, which means only 1 in 12 customers get ripped off. Many more don't report it. Using e-Bay's own studies, 60% are not represented. That now means, 1 in 7 can be ripped off. The dumb thing is, for 41 cents, the cost of mailing out the two cards, I could have been writing what a wonderful seller he was. |
