What is a Martingale Collar?

Martingale Collars are also known as Greyhound Collars or Humane Choke Collars. The Martingale Dog Collar was designed for Sighthounds (ie, Greyhounds, Whippets, Italian Greyhounds, Borzoi, Saluki, etc) because their necks are larger than their heads and they can slip out of traditional side release dog collars; these collars have gained popularity with other breeds in the recent past.

How does a Martingale Collar work?

Martingale Collars have 2 loops. The smaller of the loops is called the "Control Loop". This is the portion of the dog collar that is attached to the leash and tightens when it is pulled. The second loop is the adjustment loop. This is the part of the dog collar that you adjust to the right size to fit your dog.

Many people are now using Martingale collars for other breeds of dog.  This style offers greater control without the danger of choking. Giving comfort, security and style.  It's virtually escape-proof design reduces coat damage.  These collars just slip over the dog’s head.    The lead then attaches to the d-ring on the loop.  If the dog pulls or tries to back out of the collar, the collar tightens to fit the neck exactly without choking your dog

All collars are made from strong polypropylene webbing.  All seams are quadruple stitched for strength.  All the metal work used in the making of the collars is either pressed (made from a single piece of metal with no joins) or welded.

 The collars are machine washable

Each collar comes with fitting instructions.

How to measure your dog for a Martingale collar

MEASURING YOUR DOG: Use a tape measure to measure your dog around the top of the neck directly behind the ears. The tape measure should be snug, to ensure a correct fit for your dog.

Both the 1.5”  (4cm) and 2” (5cm) collars are adjustable.  Standard collars are made to fit UP TO 17”  or 42cm.  It is important to measure your dog as instructed as these collars are tailor made to fit your dog.  So correct measuring is important to ensure a good fit.  Collars can be made to order if you require a larger or smaller sized collar.
