Amaethon Good
Tazlure

Name: Amaethon Good

Gender: Female

Race: Human

Religion: Mother Earth

Age: 17

Height: 5'4"

Weight: 109

Occupation:

Place of origin: The Midlands of Dort

Starting Place: The Midlands of Dort

Physical Description: Amaethon Good is simple at first sight. It is unfortunate, in her opinion, that she remains just as simple on every sight after. What beauty the young girl possesses is "inner beauty" as her mother adores telling her. But that is certainly not to sell young Amaethon short. Starting from the top of her rather small stature, Amaethon has chestnut brown hair, glinting with the occasional prism of red she insists, that is straight as an arrow and longer than a country road. It falls gently past her waist and tends to be so troublesome that it remains in the confines of a long swinging plait. Her body is proportionate to her height, her hands spanning no more than five inches across and feet to size.

Her face is well shaped with a small tapering nose, upturned slightly, and bright eyes, brown as the dirt under her feet. She's not very shapely, as women go, but this girl has not yet achieved any sort of womanhood yet and still hopes to find more than a pinch of flesh in those feminine places. Nevertheless, she is built much like a lanky male youth, thin and strong with working in her mother's garden.

Her skin is delightfully tanned and olive from her mother's strange heritage. Amaethon isn't colored much like the robust red headed women of her village, nor very much built like them, but her face is that of nobility, despite not knowing much of her father. Her mother certainly does not possess any similar regal facial features.

Her usual clothing tends to be breeches, altered by her mother's skilled hands, and a chemise worn under a tunic. If the setting is casual, she may abondon a tunic and simply wear a plain white chemise. Alternately, she may wear only her tunic- merely depending upon circumstances. She owns but one dress, which her mother insists every lady needs. One never knows when they might encounter a formal occaision.

Personality & Quirks: Amaethon is a good strong worker, despite only being charged with her mother's beloved patch of plants, the garden they share, and the occasional trips out of the village. She also strives to be a strong student, though finds it extremely difficult to focus in a class room setting for excessive amounts of time (excessive being more than a quarter candle mark).

Her last name is the source of unending embarrassment, much as her first name tends to be. If she has heard the teasing once, she's heard it a thousand times. Even the teachers insist that she try harder to adhere to her surname of "Good". Her grades were average all during her primary schooling, with minimal effort in every field.

Amaethon has developed a quick temper which coincides with a wild streak of whimsy. She spouts of random strings of words which are absolutely amusing in her own mind but leave her the butt of the joke in a public setting, rather than the witty joker. Amaethon may typically hold her tongue among strangers, rather than risk a very bad first impression.

Insulting her pride repeatedly is the fastest way to sharp words and harsh actions. Though she has grown up into a young woman, it only meant Amaethon moved from beating up insolent little boys to snapping at other malicious young women. As her mother's illegitimate child, even among followers of Mother Earth, there are snide remarks to her incomplete family.

Although Amaethon disdains any sort of romantic hopes as frivolous, she harbors a desire for a male savior, a lover who could protect her without insulting her sense of independence, who could rescue her but never imply that she couldn't save herself. And someone who could understand her jokes, for goodness’ sake!

Beyond that, Amaethon merely aspires to accumulate knowledge through experience rather than books. She has a wanderer's heart.

Background: Amaethon's past is based in the small village of the Midlands of Dort. A lord of the region took her mother, whom he fancied briefly during his youth, and fulfilled a ceremony told of in the Mother Earth religions. He spilled his seed and unwittingly conceived a daughter. Olivia Good, Amaethon's mother, never felt it wise to tell the heir of a prestigious man, for she knew he would never crave her as his lifelong mate and court would no more suit Olivia Good than the city did when she lived in the capital city under her father’s roof. The flame of their romance indeed died down before Olivia made it through the first forty days of her pregnancy.

Thus a healthy young Amaethon was born in the Midlands with her strong and worldly mother to guide her through youth. She prospered through the first five yahren of her life, living much at home and among beautiful wild life. Despite the fact that her mother was a fine seamstress and a very apt gardener, money was not in abundance in their household. Nevertheless, Amaethon found that much of what they needed in their home could be made by them. With money her mother received in gifts from her mysterious lordly lover, whom Amaethon knew nothing of, they could afford a modest cottage, a cow to provide good milk, and a garden for produce. With but two mouths to feed, they could afford poultry and meats, along with good spices from the earnings in the tailoring and sewing her mother did for much of the village.

When Amaethon left her mother's care for schooling around a mere six yahren she found a world she was intimately interested in. Despite a distinct dislike for close-minded or unrealistic individuals, the young and precocious Amaethon quickly discovered her love of learning. Magick, a difficult concept for her, was spoken of with awe and much curiosity. It was a deep yearning of hers, but a distant and unachievable possibility it seemed. For who could hope to practice the arcane in a little village full of farmers?

Teacher's recognized the talent in the girl and encouraged it, if somewhat disappointed in her lack of discipline. But she was responsible, they felt, and worthy of education. If it hadn't been for her mother's refusal, her teachers would have arranged for Amaethon's schooling in the city of Dort at an appropriate age. As it was, Amaethon excelled in the class room to some degree. Amaethon aged, unaware of her ability to ingest information as a talent. She only understood it as a hunger, necessary to quench. But that hunger was often interrupted by other unfortunate events.

She wasn't much older than eight yahren when she first heard an insult against her dear mother. Beautiful though Olivia was, she was haughty to men who would court her and distrustful of women bound to their husbands. Something among the adults, a disagreement or accusation, flew between her mother and a boy's parents from school. The boy, Daniel Halkin, did a despicable thing and called Amaethon's mother a whore during a recess from the stuffy class room.

An eight yahren old child is barely aware of sex, much less whores, but even the children of her small village knew that it was a bad name. Amaethon took a great deal of malicious pleasure from roundly tearing into the young boy. It was unfortunate that what had once appeared to be a peaceable child could do true damage to her classmate. Olivia, despite being proud of her young and able daughter, was distressed that her burden of being unwed would be shared with her only child. Another fear of what bode to be darker aspects in her young daughter compelled her to act forcefully.

Amaethon was duly punished, rewarded a month of detention, a deep apology to the family, and several candle mark’s service in the family’s gardens, and that was the last of that. Unfortunately, similar situations were to occur in the future. It was at a point which even the most understanding teacher could not allow Amaethon to attend class lest her hackles be raised by a comment even remotely offensive. There was a general agreement between parent and instructor, and the young girl was sent to live with an older gentleman in his cottage in the woods.

He was a trapper, a hunter, but oddly a peaceful man. People of the town could send their unruly beasts to be quieted by the peace of the forest and the firm but gentle hands of Marls Juri. Amaethon, with little resistance, spend three years with him. She found she preferred the soothing dark forest with its green filtered light. She even learned a bit of his trapping and acquired a pony after undergoing a good few lessons.

During that time, Marls Juri could only seek to instill a peace in the intemperate child. He found her to be quite normal, a much less severe case than was originally explained to him. He had met more unruly beasts and he saw the intelligence in her face, her eyes, her thoughts. He often bid she share her thoughts over their evening meal. He could recognize that she had a skill for trapping and hunting. They spent many nights deep in the forest, seeking balance for her, and many nights in his barn, teaching quiet cooperation to the animals that people sent to him to break or train.

As he felt Amaethon progress, they traveled several times to the nearest city, not very large but with a market-place full of exotic items to pique their interests. She even managed to catch on to the simplicities of haggling and earned herself a set of ribbons and a brass comb. It was her great pleasure that he also purchased several pairs of breeches, real men’s breeches, for her, and water proof boots. They had neared the end of their time in each other’s company. Though she could never think of the wizened old man as a father, he was the nearest thing to a grandfather, perhaps. She even fancied he might be as fond of her as she was of him.

The last week of her life with him was tearful. He knew her wanderer’s spirit, that it might be yahren before she returned to show him what sort of woman she had become. Though they could remain close during her remaining time as a child, it was not long before she would make her own venture out. He bid her farewell that last day as she returned from the far outskirts of her village to her mother and they parted, sharing brief visits every month or so afterwards.

Amaethon was fifteen yahren when she returned to live again with her mother. The town had become silent once again; aware of a gentle tipping balance in Amaethon that could not be struck in the wrong direct, for the good of the village. Life continued with Amaethon bidding her time. She would leave and find the city which her mother so hated. The village, despite its strife, would always be home, and she would surely return, but seventeen yahren made her as much a woman as any. At seventeen, she stepped into her doorway with what she needed and ready to venture through the midlands to Dort.

Goals: First and foremost, Amaethon seeks to learn anything and everything. Acquiring material items isn't her focus. She wants to know of the world and it's workings through experience. Specifically, she will probably be drawn to some sort of combat training, unarmed. She has a distant interest in magic and hopefully she will be exposed to some of that in the cities.

Secondly, and quite discreetly, she has romantic hopes, despite never voicing them. She does not know what she will find, but surely something of that nature.
