On-line gaming success is all about one thing. SPEED The faster your system runs, the faster you are able to gather and respond to information sent to you by the servers.
Many people think that ping is a big part of this. I disagree. If that were the case then how can some of our clan members from Europe and Asia do so well on our American based servers? Those members have pings that are greater than 100 all the way to 300. Do not get me wrong, I think connection is important, but we are not getting into that now.
Your speed is determined mainly by three things. CPU (processer), Graphics card and Memory.
I used to run a real "dog" of a system. A stock Gateway with no-frills. I did have a Pentium 4 CPU, yeah a Pentium 4 Celeron! Celeron is not a CPU that is designed for gaming. I used to get between 15 and 25 frames per second (FPS) playing Spearhead. My clan mates loved to play with me because I was an easy kill. I used to look at the way some of our members played and thought to myself "Man, how can they play that good without cheating?" I started asking them what type of FPS they got. I was shocked to find out that the majority were getting 60 to 70 FPS.
That was my start. I began researching ways to improve my gameplay. Researced components, power and cooling systems then I built a mid-level gaming computer. I ran benchmarks (performance tests) on it, altered my system then ran more benchmarks. This was done over and over again until I optimised my system and gained a good understanding of why and how my self-built computer was playing games better.
With the mid-level gamer I built I am now running a steady 95 FPS in game play!
What does that mean? Well what that means is my game runs smoother and faster. I am able to see things happen AS THEY HAPPEN. When my FPS was lower, I would see only bits and pieces of what I am seeing now. Think about it. If I was only seeing 15 FPS and now 95 FPS, I never got to see the other 80 frames of gameplay. The result I had was many times getting killed AS SOON AS I SAW SOMEONE...not even getting a chance to return fire. Now running at 95 FPS, It is me doing the killing before I am seen!!!
The most important reason why my gameplay is better is that my system is running fast enough now that when I click to "fire" on a moving target, I hit where my crosshairs are. When I ran a slower system, I would always hit behind. Do find yourself "leading" a target?
A faster system not only lets you see ALL that is going on, it allows you to see threats/targets faster and shoot with much greater accuracy.
In the world of on-line gaming SPEED KILLS!!!
