Columbia Kids Preschool & Sprouting Seeds School

Children and Parents Learning Together

Parent Education

This course is designed to act as a venue for growth and support of parents of young children.  It will present information and tools pertaining to peacefully living with and parenting the preschool child.

Our program is affiliated with Clark College.  Parent meetings cover a wide range of parenting issues: positive discipline techniques, sibling relationships, child development, creative play, effects of TV viewing and more!   Parents will read, write, discuss, observe, and work on class projects to provide a rewarding preschool experience for the children as well as networking and developing friendships with other parents.

Students in this Parent Education Program practice putting what they learn into action.  They build a sound base of knowledge and develop the skills needed to use that knowledge effectively in their daily lives as parents.

This course involves paying a small fee to cover course materials.  College credits are given for class enrollment and completion.  Registration and payment generally occur at the time of registration and payment of the child's preschool class.

Classes are held 4 times/quarter (10 weeks).  They are referred to as Parent Meetings within the school, and each meeting is held twice, once on a Tuesday afternoon at noon, and again that evening at 7:00pm.  You choose which one to attend each time, depending on your schedule.  Childcare is available during the Tuesday afternoon sessions for a small fee, provided by a preschool parent.  Parent Meetings (classes) are approximately two and a half hours in length.  Discussions focus primarily on child development and parental guidance..  The meetings are highly interactive and allow parents the opportunity to relate with and learn from one other, as well as receive guidance from the teacher.

The Parent Education course is taught by our Preschool teacher, Virginia Triplett.
