The village of Uralla lies 23 Kilometres south of Armidale on the New England Highway approximately halfway between Sydney and Brisbane. It is an area that became known because of the Bushranger Captain Thunderbolt alias ( Fred Ward ) when he was shot and killed by Constable Walker on the 25th of May 1870 at Kentucky Creek. Uralla was also known as a town that was rich in gold and had quite a large population in that time
