Since its formation, the Band has been entirely self-supporting and does not receive any financial aid from outside sources. The governing body is an elected committee from current serving members including Pipe Major/ Chairman Mr Robert Jenkins.
Instruction is provided for learners of all ages, in piping, drumming and highland dancing. The committee is keen to encourage young people to participate in traditional Scottish music and dancing and will welcome anyone who wishes to join.
The Band wears Hunting Stewart tartan in both 'Full No. 1 Highland Dress' and 'Day Dress', dependant on the type of functions and weather conditions. The uniform (especially the No.1 Dress Uniform) plays a large part in the expectations and spectacle of a Pipe Band. So a large part of the Band's funds during each year is expended against the maintenance and renewal of equipment. Just to give you an idea of the cost of our kit here are some average figures...
Feather bonnet costs approximately: £170
Glengarry (cap for No.2 uniform): £20
No.1 Doublet: £400
No.1 Hose Tops: £60
Kilt: £250
Plaid Brooch: £30
Cross Belt (piper): £80
Waist Belt: £50
Piper's Plaid: £200
Drummer's Plaid: £170
Hair Sporran: £200
Properly cleaned and cared for the uniform items can last several years before requiring replacement. The instrument consumables, however, (reeds, drum heads, etc.) rarely last as long! You can see, therefore, that the upkeep of a Band such as ours requires a great deal of dedication and hard work to earn enough just to keep us "on the road". Looking good and playing well are mutually-supportive considerations in the case of any parade-style Band.
A number of engagements will be undertaken this year, including Street processions, Gala's, Festivals and Military functions. Please see 'Engagements' for a full list of performance locations and dates for 2007.
