                                               Vafiadis Cigarettes

For a period during the 1920s, Liggett & Meyers heavily promoted their Vafiadis brand (made under a license agreement) as a luxury Egyptian cigarette in the US market. Their efforts met with very little success perhaps because the US demand for oriental tobaccos was dwindling. The brand did do well however in the UK where the taste for the costlier Turkish blends remained strong well into the 1930s.
