"Yours for Kentucky Winners and Kentucky Club, Dutch Reagan"

During the early 1930’s, radio listeners throughout the Midwest would eagerly tune to station ‘WHO’ in Des Moines, Iowa to hear a young announcer named Ronald Reagan report on the sporting events of the day. Sponsored by Penn Tobacco Company, Reagan even did “play by play” coverage of the Chicago Cubs games relying entirely upon a wire service which gave him only the bare statistics from each inning. In one memorable incident, the wire went “dead” for a full two minutes and “Dutch” adlibbed by having the batter hit repeated “foul balls” until the connection was re-established.
