                                              Crimson Tips For The Lips

Long before Philip Morris launched their Virginia Slims brand with the slogan of "You've come a long way baby", cigarette manufacturers were very much aware of the market for female smokers. During the 1930s and 40's brands such as Debs, Marlboro and Fems sported crimson tips to hide those ugly lipstick stains. Actually, there were "ladies cigarettes" going back to the late 19th century with pastel colors, perfumed tobaccos, and elegant packaging. A particularly nice example from the 1920s is Haidee which along with red tips, red foil inner wrap, and perfumed tobaccos, included a small mirror on the inside lid for milady to check her make-up.
