Question of the Week

There are many teachings concerning the Holy Bible, different doctrines and beliefs. The purpose of this page is explore the teachings that are abroad today and have been in the past. Our aim is not to discredit anyone's stand with God but in hopes that through examination of the Word of God, we can have a clear assurance of where we stand with God.

Please feel free to answer or submit a question as often as you wish.

Question of the Week . Should both the husband and wife work? Doesn't that break down the family?

Please use scripture reference and email your answer to: egpreachnc@yahoo.com

Answers to previous Questions of the Week.

Q.Is it okay to tell jokes, or to joke around? To me its lying.

A. Matt. 5:37 But let your communication be, Yea, Yea; Nay, Nay; for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil. See also, Eph. 4:4 Neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor jesting, which are not conveinent: but rather giving of thanks.

Q. With so many different teachings in the world, how can I know for sure, that I am in the TRUTH? No will admit that they are false, so how can I be sure?

A. St. Chap 3:19-21 I f  you want to know you will seek out to know. Those that just want religion or a 'comfortable church' will not come to the light.  The word of God will support that which is true.

Q. What is the differance between a commandment and a law? Do we still have to live by the law or did Jesus change that when He brought grace? If so how did He change it?

A. Matt. 5:17 Jesus did not come to destroy the law but to fulfil. The were laws that pertained the sacrifices and offerings that were nailed to the cross Col.2:14. Commandments are to be obeyed.

Q. Would God call a person to preach if they have more the one spouse?

A. Although there are many (too many) that will CLAIM that they have called by  God. The Bible remains the same. 1 Tim ch. 3 verse 2 '...Husband of ONE wife...'. So the answer is no. God does not and will not call a person to preach who is in violation to the Word of God.

Q. Are the Jews still God's chosen people?

A. Romans chap. 11 lets us know that the Jews were cut off because of unbelief. However, salvation is offered to them as well as any one else who will accept Christ. Romans 2:28-29 tells us who are the 'Jews' today.

Q.Which church is the RIGHT church?

A. Matt.16:18  Jesus said ...upon this rock I will build my church...,So first of all there is ONLY ONE  CHURCH,  Acts 2:47 ... and the Lord added daily to THE church such as should be SAVED. The Right church consist of only those that have been saved and living free from sin.

Q.Some teach that it is okay to drink a little wine, Is this true?

A. Prov. 20:1 Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise. Those who teach that drinking wine is okay justify by the verse where Paul admonishes Timothy to USE a little wine...Notice he said to ..' use a little... for his infirmities. Not to DRINK IT  for pleasure.

Q. Is 'living together' okay in God's sight?

A. 1 Cor. 7:1-2 '...to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and every woman her own husband.'

Q. How can you know if your pastor is preaching the truth?

A. FIRST of all there has to be a desire in you to want to know the truth. John 7:17 clearly states this. Also the  Word and Spirit will agree.

Q. What is the purpose of the Holy Ghost?

A. Certainly the subject of the Holy Ghost has the source of much controversy. Acts 1:8 Holy Ghost is to give you power to witness. NOT TO SPEAK IN TONGUES! John 16:7-13 To guide us into truth and convince the world of sin.

Q. Does God hold the preacher responsible for what they preach or do not preach?

A. Certainly! Ezekiel chapters 3 and 33. God gives a clear warning to the watchman.  If more 'watchman' would take heed to this warning, we certainly would not have the NONSENSE that is going on in the pulpits today

Q. Does the scripture support a person having more than one spouse?

A. NO the scripture does not.  Man would say so, but let us consider Romans 7:2-3, Luke 16:18, 1 Cor.7:39-40, Matt. 19 :1-9, Mark 10:1-12.  Just a few verses from the word of God.  Let God be true.

Q. Can a person be gay and saved?

While it is true that a gay person can GET saved, it is certainly true that you can not be gay and saved. Let's consider 1 Cor.6:9 ...The unrighteous WILL NOT INHERIT THE KINGDOM OF GOD...NOR THE EFFEMITNATE. Also see Rom 1:25-32 and Lev.20:13

Will there be a Rapture of the Saints only?

A. Sadly, this is one of the most widely spread false teachings that exist today.  Let us consider John ch. 5 verses 28 & 29. "Marvel not at this for THE HOUR is coming , in the which ALL that are in the graves shall hear his voice , And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done , evil unto the resurrection of damnation.   Also see Dan 12:2 One resurrection at the same time.

Q. What is the purpose of Baptism?

A. Baptism is an outward showing of an inward work. It is to be performed in obedience to Mark 16: 16

Q. Do Christians sin?

A. This is one of the most debated subjects concerning Christians.  Let allow the Word of God to answer.  Rom.6:1-2'What shall we continue in sin that grace may abound? God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?       1 John 3:-9 Christ did not die to save us from our sins and then leave us still sinning.  Wouldn't that make His dying in vain?

Q. Was the Devil kicked out of Heaven?

A.  This question will be answered more thoroughly in the future on our Doctrines page.  Until then consider this.  In order for the Devil to be kicked out of heaven that must mean the there is the possibility of sin existing in Heaven.

Q. Is there a difference between sin and mistake? Let us consider Hebrews 10:26 and 4:17 We will see that sin is a wilful choice that a person decides to do.  Mistakes are unintentional.

Q.  Does everyone have a right to believe as they wish as long as they are sincere in what they believe?

A. Let us consider Gal.1:6-9 Where Paul admonishes to beware of another gospel also, Matthew 16:6-12 Where Jesus told the disciples to beware of the doctrine of the Pharisees, so in light of these two scriptures we can see that the Bible doesn't leave it up to individuals to believe as they wish

Answer to last weeks question. Does it matter what the name of the church is.   Eph.3:14, Acts 20:28 Scripture references. If a name is not important think about how confusing it would be if that which belongs to you did not have your identification on it?  So it is with God's church. it is only 'right' that His church should bear his name.

Answer to last weeks question concerning should christians celebrate Christmas has no scripture reference because there is not one to be found in the Bible. Jesus told us to remember His death, because that was His purpose in coming to Earth.

Question of the Week: Jan.2, 2005 Church Joining.  Does the Bible support the practice of joining the church of your choice?

Answer: In Acts chapter 2 verse 47 We read that ..." The Lord added daily to the church such as should be SAVED." Salvation makes one a member of the church. Notice, the Lord adds to THE CHURCH not the CHURCHES so we don't have a CHOICE as to a church of our own choosing.  We make the choice to give our life to the Lord and He adds us to THE CHURCH.
