I lost to Daniel Yeager in round 7 but it was a pretty good game with a couple of time trouble mistakes but all in all it was well played. We went ahead and left after round 7 so we wouldn't have to drive so late at night. Here is my game.
Well yesterday was a bit of an unusual ride for me. I ventured e4 in both games with the idea of total domination which is exactly what happened, at least until I blundered in the last game. I had a good position though. Here are the games.
The threat is Qd6+ followed by Bg6#.
After Kxf2 Ng4+ picks up the queen. I saw the tactic earlier but forgot about it. Silly me.
Evidently Caribou Coffee is not open on Sundays here in DC, or at least the one go to near the hotel isn't. On the bright side I have many games to put up, so lets get to it.

Well, we arrived in DC around 6pm last night. The trip was fairly uneventful and pleasant. Te open section looks like it should be somewhat strong with 3 GMs so far. I'll probably be ranked somewhere in the 10-15 range which is fine with me. The first round will begin today at 1pm so I'm getting ready. I have to say that I feel pretty good and I expect to play up to my rating the first few rounds, but we'll see.
We had a small blitz session in the room last night between Sammy, Todd, and myself. I would say that Todd won convincingly, but it just so happens that the only game I could remember was the last one we played, which I won. :-) Here it is.
Well, schools out and I made two A's and a B. Not too shabby for an old man. Starting on Dec. 27 the 2008 Eastern Open will begin. I'm travelling up with Todd Trower, Samuel Xin, Jessica Martin, and Cherie Braden. Hopefully I can win this year. I plan on updating the site every morning starting on the 28th, so check back then.
