JIMMY 'THE HARDER THEY COME' CLIFF

THE FIRST REGGAE SUPERSTAR

The Hon. James 'Jimmy Cliff 'Chambers OM was born on 1 April 1948 in the parish of St Catherine, Jamaica. Jimmy Cliff as he commonly know is a Jamaican reggae musician, best known among mainstream audiences for songs like "Sittin' in Limbo", "You Can Get It If You Really Want It" and "Many Rivers to Cross" from The Harder They Come, a film soundtrack which was the main exposure which helped popularise reggae across the world.

The 1972 movie... 'THE HARDER THEY COME'... and its soundtrack served as...  Americans' first introduction to reggae. Jimmy Cliff (playing Ivanhoe Martin, would-be reggae singer - in the movie - turned renegade) provided vocal star power on the title track and....... "Many Rivers to Cross." Desmond Dekker & The Aces showed off reggae's roots in 50s R&B on "(007) Shanty Town." Just as good are the contributions from mostly forgotten acts like The Melodians and The Slickers, whose "Johnny Too Bad" is a parable of the film—only far better. "The Harder They Come" was.... a ... success, but it opened the door for the arrival of Bob Marley,....and other reggae  global superstar,.......  years later.

Crown Prince Of Reggae Muzik

Dennis Emannuel Brown

One of Jamaica's most beloved and prolific artists, the late Dennis Brown has left behind a slew of classic songs and myriad hits, a rich musical legacy born of a career that spanned over 30 years. Born Dennis Emmanuel Brown in Kingston, Jamaica, in 1957.

I have had the opportunity to work with Dennis Brown in Kingston Jamaica on the Reggae Fever Show 1982 at The National Arena, St. Andrew, Jamaica, I spoke to him about his muzik and how I would love to do some of his music myself as he is my Guru. This was for few hours it was at another event, a  Joseph Dance at 81-83 Hope Road, ST.Andrew, Jamaica, Saturday 24 February 1984. He saw me years later at the UCLA Reggae Jazz  Festival standing outside waiting to get in. I had been invited by an artist named Daddy Freddy who convinced me that he could get me into the show. Nonetheless, I stood outside in embarrassment until Dennis Brown showed up; winding down the car window and said "Yow! you live here now man?" I replied that I did and he got me into the show. That was the last time he was in California and the last time I saw him, hence the last time I spoke to him . He is an inspiorationnot just to me but to many.

Alton Ellis

The Hon. Alton Neamiah Ellis O. D.  Order Of Distinction (by Jamaica Government) (born Alton Neamiah Ellis, 1944 in Kingston, Jamaica) is a musician best known as one of the innovators of rocksteady music.[1][2][3] In 2006, he was inducted into the International Reggae And World Music Awards Hall Of Fame.

Ellis started his career in 1959 as part of the duo Alton & Eddie with Eddie Perkins. Ellis and Perkins recorded for Coxsone Dodd at Studio One before Perkins moved to the United States. Duke Reid took Ellis to his Treasure Isle label in 1962. By the mid 1960s, ska was moving on and the beat was slowing down and becoming associated with the rude boy subculture in Jamaican dancehalls. Recording with a backing trio, The Flames (consisting of his brother Leslie Ellis, David "Baby G" Gordon and a musician called Ronnie), Ellis scored big with the hits "Girl I've Got a Date", "Cry Tough" and "Rock Steady", which lent its name to the newer genre. As rocksteady dominated the Jamaican airwaves for the next two years, Ellis continued to score hits for Treasure Isle, working with artists such as Lloyd Charmers, Phyllis Dillon and The Heptones.

Bob Andy  ( Then : London 1970)  Bob Andy ( as recent as 1991)

Bob Andy (born Keith Anderson) emerged as a solo star in 1966 with the smash hit "I've Got to Go Back Home", a song which has become a much-loved anthem for Jamaicans. He had served his singing and songwriting apprenticeship with the legendary vocal group THE PARAGONS, which he founded with Tyrone (Don) Evans and Howard Barrett, later joined by John Holt. The Paragons had several hits for producer Coxsone Dodd including the Number One "Love At Last", penned by Bob.
As one of STUDIO ONE's leading lights, Bob worked closely with Jackie Mittoo on many of the label's seminal sounds. Besides writing songs for himself which have become reggae standards - "Feeling Soul", "My Time", "Going Home", and "Too Experienced", to name just a few - Bob contributed hits for many of the other artists there.

In 1970, international recognition came when Bob and Marcia Griffiths recorded Nina Simone's "Young, Gifted and Black", which sold 1/2 million in the UK and Europe, and still receives frequent airplay today. BOB & MARCIA became household names, appearing on Top of the Pops and touring extensively. They had another UK Top Ten single and two albums for Trojan Records.

Third World Band

The most unique and indifferent Reggae Band from Jamaica. They have masterminded the versatility of reggae genre-ship long before many other bands and from an early start suffered redicule from almost all class of the Jamaican society for this. They have been classified as 'not so rootsy', too commercial and to Americanise due to their versatility. Nonetheless, they are the brainstorm of the term "Reggae Ambassador", henceforth the true reggae ambassadors; they also have been the recepient a Medallion from the Un ited Nations for their Ambassadorship in Africa and the world.

After all been said and done Third World Band is now celebrating their 35th Anniversary in the Reggae Muzik Industry. A length of time no other individual band has endured amongst such slanders and persecusions.

Third World to celebrate 35-year milestone
By Basil Walters Observer staff reporter
Sunday, January 13, 2008

Third World belongs to an exclusive list of Jamaican bands that have lasted over 30 years. Actually, this most diverse, colourful and entertaining musical aggregation is celebrating its 35th anniversary this year, and already there are plans for some exciting activities to mark this important milestone.

For more than three decades the "Reggae Ambassadors' all-embracing artistic vision has made them one of island's most successful acts, and their body of works to date is a testimony to the vibrancy of this enduring group.

<><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><>..>

Bunny Rugs (left) and Stephen 'Cat' Coore from Reggae band Third World.

One of the events under review to celebrate Third World's achievement is their 1978 theatrical production called Explanations, written and directed by noted psychiatrist Dr Fred Hickling.

"Right now we're going to talk about Third World first, as you know, Third World is the head. Whatever Cat, and me and Richie do outside of Third World come after Third World," jives the band's lead vocalist, William "Bunny Rugs" Clarke who, at the same time, is straddling his own solo career.

"This year, 2000 and love, I love that yuh see bless," chimes the chirpy entertainer, "2000 and love, Third World celebrates 35 years, and this year we're going to host our 35th anniversary on the Lawns of King's House, and we're looking at December 28."

Elaborating on the plans for the year ahead, Bunny Rugs explained: "Third World always comes with new ideas and take the music to a different level. And I think it's time now that we come with something a little different than just a regular show where artistes just come on and sing two tunes. What we would love to do, is something like the Explanations again, the theatrical production and music where you have drama and dancing and them kind of stuff."

Not wanting to use the word, Bunny Rugs, with his particular spin on things, hinted at a reunion of sorts when he said; "I feel in order for that (Explanations) to be effective, and really have any form of meaning, we are going to need to talk to Michael "Ibo" Cooper, William "John Lee" Stewart, Irvin "Carrot" Jarrett and Prilly Hamilton. Thirty-five years is a hell of a milestone for any one group. It's a celebration, not a reunion, because in Third World we have not really separated as such."

However, the above-mentioned names are all former "Worlers", as since 1997, they no longer perform with the group. Interestingly, two years ago Jarrett joined his former bandmates in concert on the lawns of King's House, after which he confessed in an interview with this newspaper that "It was sobering." When asked about the likelihood of him reuniting with the band, Jarret, who was performing with the group for the second time since he left in 1984, admitted, "I thought of it, it's very possible, it's always possible and it may happen..." The members were replaced by Leroy Romans, Tony Williams and Rupert Bent Jr.

The year was 1973, when the idea of bass guitarist Colin Leslie and keyboardist Ibo Cooper, guitarist/cello player Stephen "Cat" Coore, of forming a band immediately attracted the interest of vocalist Prilly Hamilton, and drummer Carl Barovier, all of whom became the founding members of Third World.

The inspiration for the name Third World came from the late reggae artiste, Clancy Eccles, who when he became aware of the concept of the band to blend the diverse sounds of the Third World countries, suggested that it be called The Sons of the Third World. But they eventually settled for Third World.

Over time, Richard Daley, who is still with the group, replaced Leslie as the bass guitarist, Barovier was replaced on drums first by Cornell Marshall, then by Willie Stewart and now by Tony "Ruption" Williams and Bunny Rugs taking over from Prilly Hamilton as lead vocalist. Ibo and Cat were former members of the Inner Circle Band for which the late great Jacob Miller was lead vocalist while Marshall was a member of Tomorrow's Children.

The Reggae Ambassadors' self-titled debut album, Third World, landed them a deal with Island Records for opening Bob Marley on his breakthrough performance at London's Lyceum in the summer of 1975.

Their follow-up album, 96 Degrees In the Shade found the new vocalist, Bunny Rugs in a mellow mood. Third World scored a huge international hit from their cover of the O'Jays' Gamble and Huff original Now That We Found Love. Their next album, Journey To Addis, offered more of the same mixture of roots and sweet soul. Other sets followed like Prisoner In The Street, Rock the World, Sense Of Purpose, You've Got the Power, Hold On to Love. There are also some notable singles such as Dancing on the Floor, Lagos Jump, Arise In Harmony, Reggae Party, Reggae Ambassador, Forbidden Love and Try Jah Love.

Just some of the reasons to show that Third World has a lot to celebrate, but they ain't finished yet. "Third World is in the studio right now producing a new album. Stephen Marley and Junior Gong lick over tunes like 96 Degrees in the Shades and Sense of Purpose inna fi dem style, really nice. And I think they are going to do some more songs," an elated Bunny Rugs told Yesterday's Notes about the set expected to drop by April.

"And of course, this year we're going to tour like we did last year, Europe, Japan, United States and the Caribbean Island which I really enjoy doing nowadays yuh nuh. Because they have accepted our music. Our music is their music now, yuh nuh. And they understand the thing fully and their musicians play the music just as good as our musicians. That is really a hard piece of work that we did over the last 15 years to convert Trinidad, St Kitts, Barbados, St Lucia, the Grenadines, Guyana and all these places to really accept our music," he further revealed.

"I think it was even more difficult than getting it (the music) into Africa... because the music has been in Africa for quite a long time. When you go to Africa and hear Jamaican music coming out of the shops and the radios, it freak you out yuh nuh. Third World has been to Africa several times. In Christmas of 2006, Third World was in Ghana and Nigeria. We've been to quite a few African countries, we've been all through Africa. As a matter of fact, the United Nations, around 1985, gave us a medallion for our performances in Africa."

Bunny Rugs' projects

Turning to his own personal projects, Bunny Rugs added, "I just finished a new Bunny Rugs' album, Thinking About You. On January 20, I'll be off to New Zealand and Australia for the launch. On February 6, which is Bob Marley birthday - and my birthday also - they have invited me to perform on this event in New Zealand, and also on January 25, they have a similar festival in Australia, so I'll be doing the one in Australia as well.

"On my album Thinking About You, it has some friends. It has Marcia Griffiths, Gentleman, Empress, Shantel, U Roy and Bounty Killer. Most of the tracks are done by Sly and Robbie, and I've a new single coming out with Sly and Robbie called Love Is Blind."

But that is just one of two albums Bunny Rugs is currently preparing. He is also working on a project for Heartbeat Records. "I'm in the studio doing another album for Heartbeat with Blackbeard as the producer.

This set has old songs like Singer Man, Sweet Caroline, and as you know, Sweet Caroline was my first number one song. The Heartbeat album also covers One Draw, Breaking Up Is Hard To Do, Let the Power Falls On I, Come Back Darling," disclosed Bunny Rugs whose last solo album is I'm Sure, part proceeds from which as well as his forthcoming albums will go towards the Jamaica Children Hearts Fund.

Bunny Wailer

Bunny Wailer, also known as Bunny Livingston (born Neville O'Riley Livingston April 10, 1947 in Jamaica), is a singer songwriter and percussionist and was an original member of reggae group The Wailers along with Bob Marley and Peter Tosh. His father Thaddeus "Toddy" Livingston lived for some time with Bob Marley's mother Cedella Booker.

As he was by some way the least forceful of the trio, he tended to sing lead vocals less often than Marley and Tosh in the early years, but when Bob Marley left Jamaica in 1966 for Delaware, to be replaced by Constantine "Dream" Walker, he began to record and sing lead on some of his own compositions, such as "Who Feels It Knows It", "I Stand Predominant" and "Sunday Morning". His music was very influenced by gospel and the soul of Curtis Mayfield. in 1967, he recorded "This Train", based on a gospel standard for the first time at Studio One.

Peter Tosh

Peter Tosh, born Winston Hubert McIntosh (October 19, 1944September 11, 1987[1]) was the guitarist in the original Wailing Wailers, a reggae musician, and a trailblazer for the Rastafari movement.

Tosh grew up in the Kingston, Jamaica slum of Trenchtown. His short-fuse temper and unveiled sarcasm usually kept him in trouble, earning him the nickname Stepping Razor after a song written by Joe Higgs, an early mentor. He began to sing and learn guitar at a young age, inspired by the American stations he could pick up on his radio. After an illustrious career with the Wailers and as a solo musician, his life was cut short when he was brutally murdered at his home. Though robbery was officially said to be the motivation behind Tosh's death, many believe that there were ulterior motives to the killing, citing that nothing was taken from the house.

Eddy Grant

A legend of reggae muzik in the his own right

This artist I came across when I was DJ-ing in Jamaica during the late '70 at parties and club also while working  in record sales at record stores in the early '80s'. His 'Walkng on Sunshine' and "Living on the frontline" were hits during that time when disco was about to fade out and reggae was clashing with it due to people like Eddy Grant. The funky-disco type of Reggae was only know to be done by local group Third World Band with they cover of " Now that we found love" . But Eddy Grant wasn't know to the populace at that time. Even amongst some of the Reggae great Eddy Grant was not known. It was friends of mine like DJ. Tony Jarrett, DJ Andrew Edmondson and myself who had exposed Eddy Grant to main stream Jamaica. His muzik was not distributed on the Jamaican market, but Tony Jarrett travelled alot to the US and bought international artists' records which could not be found in Jamaica's local record stores especially due to distribution rights. Eddy Grant's muzik was one of them and definite a hit at the main clubs due to the record store where we worked in - "Vibrations" - in The Hardware & Lumber outlet " Hole-in-The Wall" in Manor Park Plaza. Constant Spring. We turned that little record store into a , what is now called "Happy Hour" after work club and we were ..'living on the frontline' Prah!...prah!...prah!...prah!...I say yeah!

Eddy Grant now has a studio in Barbadoes and has produced international Artist like 'Sting", "Mick Jagger' and Elvis Castello.

Delroy Wilson

DELROY WILSON

Born in  1948, Kingston, Jamaica, West Indies, d. 6 March 1995, Kingston, Jamaica, West Indies. Like Dennis Brown and Freddie McGregor, Delroy Wilson was barely out of short pants when he cut his debut single for Coxsone Dodd 's Studio One label. His first hit, 'Joe Liges' (1963), was written by Lee Perry, then working as a talent spotter/songwriter/singer for Dodd, and was a lyrical attack on former Coxsone employee and now rival, Prince Buster. ('One hand wash the other, but you don't remember your brother, Joe Liges, Joe Liges, stop criticise') set to a rollicking early ska rhythm. The record was so popular that his follow-up, 'Spirit In The Sky', another Perry-penned barb aimed at the Prince, was actually credited to Joe Liges when it was released in the UK on the Bluebeat and Black Swan labels. Delroy went on to cut numerous records in the same vein for Dodd, including 'One Two Three', 'I Shall Not Remove', a duet with Slim Smith entitled 'Look Who Is Back Again', and the anti-Buster 'Prince Pharoah', notable for being the only occasion in which Coxsone himself is heard on record, admonishing Buster in a coded, spoken outburst.

*****

While many erroneously believe that Delroy Wilson began his career as a part of a duet with Joe Higgs around 1960, this is not in fact the case. Delroy was at the time only twelve years old, and Joe Higgs partner between 1958 and 1964 was a man named Roy Wilson, who left Jamaica in 1964, after which Joe Higgs sang for some time with Carlos Malcolm's Afro-Caribs. At the time they formed, Higgs and Wilson were both adults, previously seeking to sing as soloists, yet Delroy Wilson was only ten years old. Wilson himself released his first solo single "Emy Lou" in 1961 for record producer, Clement "Coxsone" Dodd, at the age of thirteen.

AGUSTUS PABLO

Agustus Pablo family & my family grew up in the same neighbourhood of Havendale, St.Andrew, Jamaica, West Indies . I actually went to high school with his brothers and  had a 'crush' on his sister Paula in the early '70. Eventhemore, I love the piano because of him and most of my music's keyboard/piano sections are greatly influenced by Agustus Pablo's muzik. Acutally most of the reggae musicians who plays keyboard/piano are influenced by Agustus Pablo.

I classify him s the Reggae Beethoven, the man that makes the keys talk n Reggae Muzik.

The white musicians have Liberacci ...Reggae got Jackie Matto!

They have Beethoven.....................Reggae have Agustus Pablo!

Horace Swaby (June 21, 1954May 18, 1999), better known as Augustus Pablo, was a Jamaican roots reggae and dub record producer and keyboardist, active from the 1970s onwards. He was perhaps the first person to use the melodica as a viable musical instrument. He was known for his devotion to the spiritual Rastafari movement.

THE MAN & HIS MUZIK

[edit] Life and career

He was born in St. Andrew, Jamaica and learned to play the organ in Kingston College School. It was at that point an unnamed girl lent him the melodica. Fascinated by the instrument, Pablo rarely put it down. He also met Herman Chin Loy, who after working at his cousin Leslie Kong's Beverley's record shop, had set up his own Aquarius store in Half Way Tree. Swaby recorded early tracks including "Higgi Higgi", "East of the River Nile", "Song of the East", and "The Red Sea" between 1971 and 1973 for Chin-Loy's Aquarius Records.[1] The name Augustus Pablo had previously been used by the producer for many of the discs he produced featuring a keyboards player,[2] and Swaby took the name for this recording.

"East of the River Nile", a unique blend of East Asian and Jamaican sounds, became a moderate hit. Augustus Pablo popularized the use of the melodica (an instrument used primarily to teach children music in the Jamaican public schools) in reggae music. He soon joined Now Generation (Mikey Chung's band) and played the keyboard with them while his friend, Clive, began his own career as a record producer. Pablo and Chin recorded "Java" (1972) together,[1] as soon as Pablo quit Now Generation and Clive was able to get the studio time, the instrumental was a massive hit, and launched Pablo's solo career. He recorded with Chin and various others, including Leonard Chin, his uncle, and Lee Perry. He scored another smash hit with "My Desire" (John Holt).

By Patrick Foster Observer writer
Sunday, December 18, 2005

If the Morgan family is the Royal Family of Reggae, as they are often called, then Denroy Morgan is a king. Quite like Bob Marley (the undisputed king of Reggae), Denroy Morgan has led a bloodline of successful musicians and cultural ambassadors who have taken Jamaican music worldwide.

Filling their music with spirituality handed down by their Rastafarian father, Morgan Heritage (Denroy Morgan's children) is now one of the leading reggae groups in the world.

MORGAN HERITAGE

'SURELY THE CHIPS DOESN'T FLY FOR FROM THE BLOCK'

Morgan Heritage is a reggae band formed by five children of famed reggae-artist Denroy Morgan. Despite their relative youth, they have been referred to as "reggae royalty". Having grown up in their father's music studio in the U.S. the group, then consisting of eight of the children, made their first appearance at Reggae Sunsplash in Jamaica. They were subsequently signed by MCA and released their debut album Miracles in 1994. They have since criticized Miracles as being overly pop-influenced.

A year later the family moved to Denroy's homeland of Jamaica. In this period, three family members left the group. In Jamaica, Morgan Heritage began working with famed reggae producers Bobby Dixon and Lloyd James, resulting in the release of the critically acclaimed album Protect Us Jah (1997), followed by One Calling (1998), and the spiritually-inclined Don't Haffi Dread (1999). They released two albums by "The Morgan Heritage Family and Friends", and the Live in Europe! album recorded on their 2000 tour. Morgan Heritage toured in Europe again following the release of their 2001 album More Teachings... Their sixth studio album, Three in One, came out in 2003. They have released two DVDs (Live In London and Live Over Europe 2003) with good success and "Full Circle" (2005)

There is a sibling band called <LMS (comprised of other Morgan siblings) which is more hip-hop influenced. LMS often tours with Morgan Heritage.

Morgan Heritage is one of the most influential reggae bands today, and have returned to Jamaica, where they opened a studio and released 3 compilations of "Morgan Heritage Family and Friends".

They have cooperated with most reggae bands and DJs of today including Capleton, Luciano, Gentleman, Beres Hammond etc.

Inner Circle

INNER CIRCLE BAND

JACOB MILLER

The reggae group Inner Circle was formed in 1968 by the brothers Ian and Roger Lewis in Jamaica. They are responsible for the 1989 song "Bad Boys," which serves as the theme song for Fox Network's long-running television program COPS. However, at first they covered soul and R&B hits from the United States, and then also a few reggae songs, predominantly from Bob Marley.

The band released its debut album in 1974 on the famed record label, Trojan Records, and resigned in 1979 to Island Records, where the internationally successful album Everything Is Great originated. This album reached top 20 in the UK and preceded their other chart success by some years.

The original Inner Circle included Ibo Cooper (keyboards), Stephen Cat Core (guitar), Funky Brown (vocals), Prilly (vocals), Ian and Roger Lewis, and Mr. Lewis. The band's residence was originally on Holborn Road in New Kingston. In latter years they had a horn section that included Llewellyn Chang on alto sax and Leighton Johnson on trumpet; both were former members of the Excelsior High School band. During that time the band toured extensively to North America and Bermuda. At the end of this time,Ibo and Cat started their own band, Third World, whose hits included, "Now That We Found Love" and "Ninety Six Degrees in the Shade". Ibo, Cat, and Funky Brown were at this time students of the University of the West Indies studying for various degrees.

Anna Fisher

The real Joe Kadish Fish             Anna Fisher then and now!                                Charlett Sawyer (Fish) Lacey

Born Nancy Fish February 28, 1960 and raised in Concord, Massachusetts Anna Fisher has taken all of her worldly experiences and packaged them on a sweet sounding album of innovative sounds. "Refreshingly inspiring!" is a comment she hears often in regards to her music. Her many years in the Caribbean (St. John) as an Elementary Music teacher (known as Mrs. Nancy Liburd) she decided life was too short not to record her sound with Reggae, Jazz, R & B, and Pop as she'd rarely heard oboe played outside Classical and Pop Orchestras. Her musical studies began with piano at age 5, recorder at 10 and oboe at 11. At 13, she was accepted into New England Conservatory, in addition to her studies at NEC she attended Indiana University School of Music, Boston University School of Music, North Carolina School of the Arts (B.Mus oboe and English horn '83) , University of the Virgin Islands Graduate School of Education (Teaching Credential) and National University Graduate School of Education (M. Ed in Instructional Leadership '99)

As a lover of Reggae, she's performed "Exodus" by Bob Marley with his band, The Wailers at The Roxy Theater in West Hollywood. She's danced onstage numerous times with Marcia Griffiths (Electric Slide Boogie and a member of the I-Threes, Bob's backing singers), Beres Hammond (Tempted To Touch), and Maxi Priest, she's blown her oboe and sung in performances with Judy Mowatt, Della Grant, Ras Michael, Third World, Alpha Blondy, Steel Pulse, U-Roy, Rankin' Joe, Winston Hussey, Sista Nancy, and the list goes on and on!

In Jazz, she's performed often with Barbara Morrison, Ralph Penland, John Hammond, John Bolivar, Quentin Dennard, Winnard Harper, Billy Mitchell, Gusto Almario, Onaje Murray and John B. Williams.

Duets with Flutist Hubert Laws, Jr. and work with Seiji Ozawa, Andre Previn and Leonard Bernstein are part of her musical journey as well.

She is truly grateful to Third World Band for tributing one of her dearest friends and mentors,

Joe Higgs.

Joe was one of Bob Marley's greatest influences and those who spent much time around Joe knew how involved he stayed with Bob Marley & The Wailers.

After Joe's passing in December 1999, Anna traveled to Kingston, Jamaica with her keyboardist

Jawge Hughes to perform for his memorial in January 2000. Jawge had been Joe's keyboardist for twenty years. She has been invited back to perform numerous times but has not returned due to scheduling at the inner city public school where she teaches Kindergarten full time to mostly second language learners. She chaired the Arts Program four times and procured close to one million dollars in Arts Funding for Wilton Place School where she taught ten years prior to moving to a new school last year to accommodate her family's schedule.

Anna (Nancy Fish - childhood name) studied oboe since the age of 11 and thanks to her mother found some excellent teachers. Her mother, Charlotte Fish was an elementary teacher most of her life and both taught together at Julius E. Sprauve School on St. John, US Virgin Islands. Anna (known as Nancy Fish Liburd) also taught at Guy H. Benjamin School in Coral Bay for the Government of the United States Virgin Islands Department of Education for a period of ten years. An avid student with certificates, awards and degrees from many learning institutions she is doing her best to keep the world focused on a peaceful world for the sake of the children. "They are most certainly the human race's greatest resource!"

Being asked to record, Joe Higgs' "There's A Reward" on Reggae Superstars' Third World's Grammy nominated album, and attending the Grammys is her greatest achievement right now besides raising her two children. She is currently recording her next album with some truly talented artists.

One of her greatest honors is receiving the INTERNATIONAL ARTIST Joe Higgs Music Award at the First Annual Joe Higgs Music Awards Ceremony at Florida International University in Miami December 8, 2006. She was nominated in both Instrumental and International categories again this year for 2007. Joe Higgs was the teacher who coached, performed and toured with Bob Marley & The Wailers. Born in Kingston, Jamaica and raised in the ghetto community of Trenchtown, Joe was a Beacon of Hope for many. Joe was one of Anna's teachers and he had recruited her to help him with his publicity. Little more than a year later his body succumbed to cancer. He died in Los Angeles December 1999. Anna performed "A Child Is Born" from her album, "Renaissance In Formation" and when the rest of the family in Jamaica saw the video they insisted she come play in Kingston for his "Service of Thanksgiving" that his daughter Angela Higgs Barrett (wife to famed Wailers Band bassist Aston "Familyman" Barrett) was organizing.

JAH HORNS

~*~~*~

     BEEKEN                TRUMPET BRIAN                    FARMER

I had the blessing of meating these three unique musicians in Feburary 2004, while      promoting at GoldfingersLA Night Club, in Hollywood, California which is now know as    The Play. There were the astonishing horn section of the versatile reggae band known   as JahFellowship Band which was the house band for the nest 5 months. I had managed them along with Paul Higgs the son of the Legendary Maistro of Reggae Muzik Joe       Higgs(R.I.P.). For the next four months I was also blessed with the opportunity         of      managing the band as going on two tours with them and their brother band       Heart, Life and Soul from Northern California. The lead vocals of that band were        brother and sister Selecta & Ms.J. Ross-Parelli, a unique combination of Jamaican       dancehall and Aretha Franklin ensamble.

The horn section however do master any of the Jamaican horn section in reggae music   today as well as the legendary horns of the well known Skatalites. They are the master mind behind many of the creation of horns sections for many a local vocals in the Los     Angeles, California today. The can be heard on the network "Myspace",

  • It was through the bands  'Heart, Life & Soul' and 'JahFellowship', I had met J. Ross Parelli. She had performed in Long Beach and I had the opportunity to be there to see her most astonishing and amazing performance. She has an old soul syle of voice and her performance   is of a new age beauty which she is. Her sound of musik thrills you with her Aretha Franklin's style of vocal melody as well as her poetically informative rapping versatility. We worked on two tours together in Northern California in 2004, where I had gotten the blessing of meeting her wonderful and deeply warmhearted parents. Her parents had opened their home to a 12 peice band of rastafarians without any second thoughts. They prepared, without a second thought, breakfast, lunch and dinner for us all, after waking up to see all these people up in their home. They also opened up their tennis court for an all night party with the band featuring JRoss Parrelli, her Dad and brother Jared on vocals as well as her Dad on drums . It was a blast; a never forgettable event. This had opened my eyes to the difference in social infrastructure of the cold-cut life of Los angeles and Southern California to the more openly warm livity which I had experienced throughout my 2 tours in Northern California.  We also celebrated her so called 'sweet16 going on 32th birthday' party at the then 'Goldfingersla Nightclub in Hollywood that same year. We have worked on many other shows since and she can be booked for other events by contacting her on her myspace. J. Ross Parelli has also a foundation to assist with the children of the needy worldwide and has travelled internationally to see that her endeavours be prosperous and tranquiiling.
  •
  •  Her foundation is aptly named; The J.Ross Parelli Foundaiton.

As a kid growing up in Jamaica, You would never see Rastafarians on the streets regularly muchless even to see rastafarians on television at all back in those days. Nonetheless, is was Ras Michael & The Sons Of Negus who were the first Rastafarians to appear on television. As far as I can remember it was the Jamaica Information Service, J. I. S., which on Sundays in between the evening news and the next program that they use to bring on Ras Michael and the Sons of Negus which was more of a Rastafarian Drum Orchestra of the times. I recalled the song 'None a Jah Jah Children Nuh Cry' being played. This was a song which even to this date quakes the heart of the infidels -

Now as decades pass by and the Rastafarian movements has taken a worldwide turn in influences as well as cultural growth, Ras Michael muzik can be heard in every continent acrosss the globe. I met up with him in Los Angeles, California on several occassion, of which the lastest was the 63rd Anniversary of the birth of The Hon. R. N. Bob Marley. O.M. on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Hollywood, California, USA, where he- Ras Michael, Native Wayne, myself and other represented the Rastafarian Movements and the Reggae Muzik Industry. Each time I see him face to face, he give me a look like saying to me ni his mind - 'I have a work for you or something I need to say or for you to do" We eventually exchanges informations and took a few photographs a memorablia I personally cherish from one of Reggae Muzik's veterans. also there at the celebration were ..RaggaMuffin's founder Barbara Barbino who has requested for the veterans to make a speach with respect to the legend of Reggae 'Bob Marley'.Amongst Barbara Barbino, Ras Michael and Native Wayne, I made a speach supporting Ras Michael input...." Reggae Muzik has no colour, class or cread and to keep the message which it represents alive we must keep working all for one and one for all."

You can check out Ras Michael works on his website www.rasmichael.com

Blessing to you Ras Michael in your endeavourasItinually.

    Wadi Gad

      WADI GAD &  JAHBANDIS

I met this brethren December 1990, and his appearance had cought my immediate attention. Rastafarians who grow their hair do so with reverence to The Most High God and respect to the nazarite vow written in Genesis. Wadi Gad was the first person I had seen with a lockeds beard. Especially to me was the length of his beard. Nonetheless, he is a great musician. I had gotten the priviladhe to work with him in Summer' 93 on the 101st Anniversary of the Birth of His Imperial Majesty Emperor Haile Selassie 1st. He is Southern California #1 Reggae Muzik Drummer and a teacher to all the reggae drummers in Northern and Southern California.

Wadi Gad is a veteran drummer and recording artist who is in music business for over three decades. During his enduring career he has worked with many greats in reggae music as he has played drums for artists like Horace Andy, Abyssinians, Big Youth, U Roy, Mikey Dread, John Holt and Jimmy Riley, to name a few.
