CHOCOLATE DUTCH RABBIT'S

Care

Dutch Rabbit's are one of the oldest breeds, the national breed club, United Kingdom Dutch Rabbit Club was founded in 1879 & Dutch had been around a few years prior to this.  They are an easy breed to care for, so long as they are kept in clean hutches & given good quality food they don't really suffer from any illness or disease.

Housing

Dutch being a smallish breed don't need too much space making them a great breed to keep.  Mine are housed in hutches that have a partition so if needed i can make the hutches larger.  Ideal size hutch would be 3' x 2' but 2' x 2' are used by most breeders & are more than adequote.  Hutches can be made from either plywood or solid wood on a timber frame, the later making them heavier than plywood ones.

Feeding

Dutch are not a fussy breed & will eat most things given to them.  I feed greenstuff to mine & they love it.  Below is a list of some of the greenstuff suitable for Rabbit's.

Curly Kale

Cauliflower greens

Carrots

Spring greens

Celery

Chicory

Cabbage (outer leaves)

Vetch

Wild Garlic

Milk Thistle

Sow Thistle

Always remember if collecting wild plants to wash them & try to collect from an area that is free from pollution & fouling from Dog's.

Always give fresh water to Rabbit's either in a bottle or from a bowl.  Hay should always be available as this helps with digestion.

There are a variety of mixes available & it is best to use one that has a protein content of about 13%, it can be dangerous to give too high protein to Rabbit's as it can cause liver problems.
