Away from Her
It's an incredible performance, but one can't accurately explain why, at least in words. It's a sight to behold, to feel, to experience.
Considered one of the greatest performances of all-time by pretty much everyone. Who am I to disagree with THAT?!
His charisma, his pain, his love, HIS EYES... they all work to enhance his considerable acting chops into one of the best actors working today.
Through the lives of others, Wiesler's perceptions of his life are thouroughly broken. An exhilarating juggle between duty and humanity.
Subtly layered with an immense amount of power and emotion, and along with Christie, he makes the film beautifully devastating.

The keys to their film's success are...

Juliette Binoche

"Briony Tallis"
Atonement
Jennifer Garner
"Vanessa Loring"
Juno
Saoirse Ronan
"Briony Tallis"

Tilda Swinton
"Karen Crowder"
Michael Clayton
Amira easily could've been a caricature with an odd accent, but Binoche makes her an incredibly sympathetic character, and one that is vigorously human. But like that's a surprise.
Bri, at this point in her life, is slowly growing wiser, but is still no less vulnerable and hateful of herself than she was before... and Garai crafts one of the best performances I've seen out of it.
With an incredible amount of heart, she makes the awkward and nervous tics turn into something completely endearing. Especially after you realize she's the good guy.
She expertly plays Briony as dead in her own skin, and her pathological need to make people pay is frankly frightening on a level a child actor shouldn't plausibly reach, but she does it.
We know what Karen Crowder is, but it's only though Tilda and the purposely limited range of emotions she shows, from tight panic to tight control, we know who she is. The rehearsals... wow.

Max von Sydow
"Papinou Bauby"
The Diving Bell and the Butterfly
He's an awesome actor, but this is just insane. "I'm a fairy"? LMFAO!!! And he's so adorable too.
Well, I can definitely say I didn't expect that. *sniffle*
Who is he? Is he good? Does he work for the government? Why is he here? WTF?
You really can't rave Garai without raving him. His semi-conscious ramblings in French make that scene.
He has only two scenes, and he uses them more wisely and superbly than just any actor could.

The overwhelming loss and sorrow, and the harrowing but beautiful return of strength. She's a master of her field.
She's the only sane person in the whole dang movie!!! WHY WON'T YOU PEOPLE LISTEN TO HER?!?! *screams*
Just by communicating the distances between point A and point B, she absolutely breaks your heart.
Despite the ungrateful lack of Mary's plot in the film, Morton does a lot more than what's she asked.
One of the most perfected performances of the year, and one that never fails to make you react.
