Detachment Commander –  Staff Sergeant Haran

I was a cadet at Acton for 5 years between the ages of 13 and 18, in that time I progressed up through the star levels and finished passing my 4 star and also left with the rank of Cadet Sergeant. Throughout my time at Acton I had represented the unit at various sports including Athletics, Swimming and Cross Country. I have also represented 20 Group (a group of 8 detachments including Acton and Chiswick) at Stick Orderly (a drill competition for new cadets on annual camp), Section Attack (a feildcraft team competition), March and Shoot (a physical team competition in which you have to run with webbing and a rifle, then do an assault course with the same kit on followed by a tested target shoots). For swimming I have also represented Middx and N/W London Sector (Built up of 4 groups) and the London region (4 sectors) at the nationals.

When I left at 18 I took a year out due to being busy with work. When I rejoin as an adult instructor I was posted to 207 Hammersmith (also part of 20 group). I've been an adult instructor for 3 years now and have attended many various training courses, as well as camps. In September 2003 I took over 206 Chiswick as Detachment Commander.

Out of cadets I work as a swimming instructor throughout the local area and I also run lifeguard courses. My main hobbies are Kayaking (I’m a trained instructor) and swimming.
