Full Package/ Illinoishsbasketball League Week 5 awards

MVP/ Western Conference MVP- 6-4 senior G DeAntwan “Buckets” Jackson (North Lawndale)-Spurs-“Buckets” showed that he is one of the top offensive players in the league, as he poured in the highest point output of anyone since the start of the league. His 38 points just weren’t enough, however, and they lost the game. He was shooting the ball at a very high percentage from outside, and was taking the ball to the hoop relentlessly.

Eastern Conference MVP- 6-0 junior G John Taylor (North Lawndale)- Timberwolves-Taylor continues to make a case for being one of the top prospects in the class of 09. In week 5 Taylor scored 27 points in leading his T-wolves to a big win over the Rockets. Taylor’s point output doesn’t show how great of a game he had, however, as the equal playing time rule had him on the bench for half of the game! He shot a very high percentage and was often very unselfish with the ball.

Playmaker of the Week- 6-1 junior G David Smith (Lake Forest Academy)- Heat- Smith seems to be getting better every week, and is proving that he belongs with the elite guards in the class of 09. Smith scored 28 points in week 5, and also dished out a good number of assists. Smith is very very good at breaking down his defender, getting to the rim, and finishing.
