Dion Stamps

Dion Stamps was a player almost no one in the Illinois high school basketball world had heard of at this time last year. As a matter of fact, most people didn't know who he was until just 2 weeks ago when he got moved up to Marshall's varsity team for the CPS post holiday invitational. Now that he has played five varsity games, Dion has shown that he is a player that everyone should know about.

Dion Stamps was the leading scorer for Marshall's freshman team last year, but in a school filled with superstars and high major prospects he went under the radar. Dion had been playing sophomore ball all season and dominating his red-west foe, until his coach Lamont Bryant decieded it was time to play against the best players the city had to offer in the CPS invitational. It was supposed to be a sort of experiment- "I didn't think I was going to be playing the whole game, I just wanted to show everyone what I could do" said Stamps. Dion showed everyone in attendance what he knew he could do and a whole lot more, he scored 14, 10, and 29 points in his first three varsity games, including a half court buzzer beater to send thier game vs. Von Steuben into O.T. "After how I have been playing, I think i have a good chance to start the rest of the season" said Stamps "I know I'm not about to go out there and score 29 like that every game, my job now is just to get the ball to Ryan and Mike, and do whatever I can do to help us go down state".

Stamps played this summer with the Chicago Demons, but due to a lack of playing time with the Demons, he is yet to recieve any college interest despite a qualifying GPA of 2.3.

Marshalls team will look as good as ever next year. They will be lead by Ardarius Simmons, a top 75 player in the class of 08, and Ryan Hare, a top 5 player in 08 and possibly the most talented scorer in the state. Joining Dion as juniors next year are 6-5 Foward Eriq Harris, a top 100 player in the class of 09, and Darius Smith, a top 5 player in the class of 09. Stamps said " I think that with the players we have, we can definetly win the CPL for the next few years"... and I am definetly not one to disagree with that statement!
