Shurna had an excellent Summer with the Illinois Wolves, and had a terrific tournament at the PEP Fall Classic, winning Co-MVP Honors with Carl Richards. One of the questions I am most frequently asked is, "Why am I (or my son/player/friend) not getting recruited?". Everyone dreams of D-1 player when they are little, but for the majority of them that dream never becomes a reality even when they know they are good enough. That is a question that is often hard for me to answer, because I have seen some players that looked to me to have D-1 skill, yet when I send coaches out to see them they do not have the same reaction. So I decided to ask my good friend Craig Shaman, an assistant at D-1 Chicago St., to write an essay for potential recruits, and their coaches, parents, friends and fans about what college coaches look for in a recruit...

With the state tournament approaching, it is time to start thinking about what teams are going to go far, and what players will take them there. The Chicago Public League Features many of the top teams in the state, and many of those teams feature players who could make a big splash in this years state tourney. I made a ranking of the CPL players I expect to make the biggest impact in the state tournament. This is not a list of the best players in the CPL. When making this list I took into consideration how good their team is and how far they are expected to go in the tournament, how good the player is, how much playing time they get, how productive they are when they are on the court, and the potential of them being the difference between losing and winning a game. If you want to see profiles of these players with pictures go to the player profiles section of the website.

The class of 2009 is one of the most unique classes to come through Illinois in many years. There are no players in the class who are alleged "guarantees" to be high major players, no freakish athletes, and no dominating centers, but there are more players then any other class in recent history who have a legitimate shot at going to a high major. There are as many as 50 players in this class who were seriously considered for a top 20 ranking. Last week, the top 20 sophomore list was released. Now we have changed the top 20 around a little, and extended the list a lot. Here are the top 60 players in the class of 2009

Holiday tournaments made for a busy week in Illinois HS Basketball. Many sophomores have emerged early this season as big time players. Players who previously weren't considered top players in the state have shown they can play with the best, and some players such as Brian Conway, and KyRee Jones, have come out of nowhere to become elite players. Xavier Humphrey and D'mitri Riggs started off their schools seasons slow, but have shown signs recently that they will step their game up soon and return to elite status. Joseph Bertrand and James Kinney have been scoring machines for thier respective downstate schools, and if they can keep up this pace they will surely be high major shooting guards. Chicago Public League stars Michael Haynes, Chris Colvin, and Darius Smith have all been key components to their respective school's early success, and have shown they are all worth the hype. D.J. Richardson, the number one player in the last ranking, has been struggling somewhat recently playing on a very young Peoria Central team, but as he showed by his play over the summer, he has the ability of being the best player on the floor everytime he plays. Marcus Jordan has shown maturity far beyond his years while being a role player for #4 undefeated Loyola Academy. Jordan has always been known for his ability to create with the ball in his hands and for his great on ball defense, and so far this season he has shown that he can do much more then that, and can help his team win even when he isnt the first option. That is why he is the new number one player in the new Illinois HS Basketball Class of 2009 ranking...
