Is it hard to take care of them, and are they a lot of work? No not really. The hardest part can be cleaning out the cage because you have to do it every week.
Where do chinchillas naturally come from? They come from the Appalachian mountains. That's why they have thick fur.
What do they do when something like a bigger animal spooks them? They shed a lot, so if the animal grabs them they slip out of the predators mouth/grip.

Do they bite alot or once and a while? They only bite if you stick your finger in their mouth. Chilli has never bite me or anyone before. She only bit me once because I stuck my finger in her mouth.

Do they shed alot without being spooked by something? Yes they do, but I would give it a rating, from 1 to 10, it would be a 6.
Do they make good or great family pet(s)? Of course they do. they're sweet, tolerant,love to be cuddled and good natured. They make fantastic pets.
