Tianjin, one of the four leading cities in China, is a beautiful city in the middle part of the Chinese coastal areas, backing Yanshan Mountain to its north and facing Bohai Ocean to its east. It is regarded as 'the brilliant pearl of Bohai Ocean" with a warm-temperate semi-humid continental climate, four distinct seasons and beautiful scenery. It is adjacent to Beijing, only 120 kilometers from city center to city center, but has the advantage of a significantly lower cost of living than that of nearby Beijing. Together with its pleasant atmosphere and convenient conditions for learning standard Chinese spoken language, Tianjin is an excellent location for international students.
The College of International Education (CIE) at Tianjin University of Technology (TUT) is one of the first group of authorized Chinese-learning institutions by the Ministry of Education of China. The college has excellent teaching facilities, rich data resources and a comfortable learning atmosphere. The teachers of the college are all experienced in teaching Chinese as a foreign language, use flexible teaching methods and have obtained excellent achievements in teaching. The school has been recommended as the first-choice institute in China by various publications for international study both within China and internationally. The university has enrolled international students from more than 30 countries all over the world. The International Student Office of CIE will help the students with application and admission, entry visa, registration, course selection, housing, and residence formalities in China.
Scientific and well-balanced teaching systems
The College of International Education at TUT has an integrated set of scientific and well-balanced teaching systems. These teaching systems coordinate the training of basic skills as listening, speaking, reading, writing and translating. Classes both in Chinese language and culture are carefully designed according to the individual needs of each student, and are available at an affordable cost. There are different teaching forms, including a small-class teaching model, step-by-step class learning, after class practice in Chinese language and culture, as well as language partnerships with Chinese students. Through these methods, the language skills, cultural knowledge, and practical ability of the international students is greatly strengthened. Chinese language beginners find that they can communicate smoothly in Chinese within a short period, while advanced students are able to greatly enhance their existing skills. In addition to the teaching of Chinese language, the college offers a number of elective classes covering various aspects of traditional Chinese culture and art, including Chinese wushu, calligraphy, traditional Chinese painting, seal cutting, egg carving, paper-cuts, and performance of ethnic musical instruments and drama. Students may choose elective courses according to their individual interests, and take rewarding school-guided cultural tours throughout China to experience the unique Chinese culture.
Colorful activities for cultural experiences
Long and short cultural tours: While enrolled at Tianjin University of Technology, international students have the opportunity to join in school-guided tours, both long and short, to China's most famous scenic and cultural sites, listen to the inspiring tales that accompany each site, and experience local folk customs and special foods. These experiences allow international students to arrive at a deeper understanding of China's five thousand year history.
City tours: In addition to the above mentioned tours throughout China, international students also have the opportunity for school-guided tours of Tianjin City. The city tour provides the students with a greater understanding of the area's regional culture. The students can go to the Ancient Cultural Street, the Drum Tower, the Civil Temple, Shijia Courtyard, the Five Great Streets, as well as many museums. During such visits within the city, the students may see performances of drama and song, view Tianjin handicrafts and shop in various commercial streets. Students may also enjoy other sites Tianjin has to offer, such as the Aquatic Park, Binhai New District in Tanggu, and the night view along the Haihe River. Year after year, international students are attracted by such activities in Tianjin, and are touched by the enthusiasm and hospitality of the local people and the charm of Tianjin City.
Visits with Chinese families: In order that international students may have a better understanding of Chinese people's daily life, culture, and social values, we will create chances for overseas students to visit Chinese families. Through such contacts, the students will develop a deeper and more direct understanding of Chinese culture and can communicate with Chinese families directly and experience more of China's traditions and customs. The enthusiasm and humor of the Chinese hosts and the taste of traditional dishes are sure to provide a memorable experience for each and every student.
Language partnership activities: The College will introduce one Chinese student within the school as a language partner for each international student. This partnership will help international students to develop a more natural speaking ability as well as cultural awareness, and the friendship with your language partner will be a tremendous asset to your experience in China, helping in times of loneliness and hardship.
Experience Chinese traditional foods: Tianjin is famous for its delicious foods. Here you can try the well-known Ear-shaped Fried Cake, the celebrated Goubuli Dumpling, as well as the crisp Eighteenth Street Mahua. You can also go to various snack bars and restaurants for traditional Tianjin dishes or dumplings. You are sure to enjoy the wealth of culinary options Tianjin has to offer!
Comfortable and convenient living environment
There is an International Student Dormitory at our university with single and double rooms of different types for you to choose from. The surrounding environment has an abundance of supermarkets, Chinese and western restaurants, banks, and coffee shops. Students also have the option to live with a Chinese family, i.e. homestay. The school will help interested students make arrangements with Chinese families. Such an arrangement is truly an invaluable source of language and cultural learning, in addition to providing a sense of community and belonging while you are far from home.
Colorful after-school life
The university offers a variety of after-class activities for students to be involved in. For those interested in photography, the school holds exhibitions specifically for photos taken by international students. For students interested in music, there are a variety of opportunities to enjoy and perform Chinese songs, operas and dances. Student leagues offer activities for various interests, and university sports clubs offer opportunities to develop skill and interact with Chinese students. Such opportunities serve to develop solidarity and spirit for both Chinese and international students.
