| Once there was a very good man. His name was Noah, and he loved God very much. And God loved Noah. But many people were doing very bad things and God was very sad. God decided to send a flood over all the earth to wipe away the people who had become so bad. So God said to Noah, "Build a huge ark just the way I tell you, put rooms in it and coat it with tar so it will float a long time." Then God said, "Take your whole family into the ark because I have found you to be very good." And God told Noah to put two of every kind of animal on the ark to keep them alive during the flood also. Then the rain began and it rained for 40 days but it flooded for 150 more days! Finally the rain stopped. Soon the waters dried up and Noah and his family and all the animals were able to leave the ark. God said, "I promise I will never again send a flood to destroy the whole earth." And then God put His rainbow in the sky as a reminder to us of his promise.

| Thousands of years ago the people from Judah were put to work in Babylonia. They were captives to the Babylonians. They were not allowed to go back to their homeland. One of these that was a captive was Daniel. In time the kingdom of the King Nebuchadnezzar came to an end. Just as the land of Judah had been taken by Nebuchadnezzar, so was Nebuchadnezzar's land of Babylonia taken by the King of Persia. The new king, Darius, divided the country into many states. Each state had a governor. Darius needed someone to rule over all the governors. He needed a person who was wise and honest. He chose Daniel. Jealous men knew that Daniel was a Jew who prayed to God every day. They came up with a plan to get rid of Daniel. They asked King Darius to make it a law that no one prays to God. If anyone disobeys the law, he should be thrown into a pit filled with lions. Darius made the law and it was written down. Some men told the king that some men were not obeying the law. King Darius discovered the men had tricked him, because he actually liked Danied, but it was written and could not be undone. Daniel was taken to the pit. "I'm sorry," King Darius said. "You have been faithful to your God, and I pray that He will rescue you." The men threw Daniel into the pit with the hungry lions. The men put a stone over tthe pit so he could not get out. King Darius worried about Daniel all night. The next morning King Darius ran to the lion's den. "Daniel," he called. "Was your God able to save you from the lions?" From inside the pit, Daniel said, "My God sent an angel to keep the lions from eating me. O King, I have never done anything to hurt you." The stone was taken away and Daniel came out of the pit unharmed. God had saved him because he was faithful and true. King Darius saw this and ordered his people to honor the God of Daniel. |
