Childfree novel available. MSN's childfree and happy is an invite only. About for sale sites, don't know if their legit or not, at your own risk. Banner copied from when Turtle of rants was using it.

"Among the Dahomeyan people in West Africa, if a pregnant woman was ill, the fetus was formally tried. If found guilty of causing her illness, it was aborted."

"When you rescue a dog in bad straits and feed him, take care of him, and give him a home, the dog is grateful. This is the chief difference between a dog and a human being." -- Mark Twain

“The first half of our lives is ruined by our parents, and the second half by our children. -Clarence Darrow

"Not since the overthrow of the Weimar Republic have the leaders of a major democracy used their offices and the mass media to disseminate invective against millions of their own citizens. In fact it was Adolf Hitler who urged that 'the state must declare the child to be the most precious treasure of the people' and who explained, in the words of Rabbi Daniel Lapin, that 'as long as government is perceived as working for the benefit of children, the people happily will endure almost any curtailment of liberty.' Using children to tug on our heartstrings may be not only a weakness of the sentimental. It also may be a ploy by those cynical and unscrupulous enough to exploit children for their own purposes. This is likely to be remembered as one of the most diabolical perversions of governmental power in our history, a time when we allowed children to be used and abused by fast-talking government officials and paid for it with our families, our social order and our constitutional rights."
-- Stephen Baskerville

From "Northern Exposure"(TV), Maggie to Joel, on having a brat:
"They're slobbery and they're whiney and they look at you just like they could see right into your soul and they're unpredictable and they smell and they're noisy and the world revolves around them and why!? I don't get it. They're not interesting. They can't tell jokes, they don't have opinions, and they're boring, you know? They're just boring and annoying and I don't want to have one."

What kind: Not a rant -- a rave! (Film)
I was watching "Bridget Jones's Diary" last night. Although Bridget's "I feel like such a freak because I'm not married" attitude is annoying, there was one scene that made me want to break out in applause: when she's interviewing for a job at a TV station that specializes in kiddie programming. She delivers her canned spiel about the importance of (fill in the blank) programming. The guy interviewing her asks if she has brats. She says, "Oh God, No! Ick!"

"The perpetuity by generation is common to beasts; but memory, merit, and noble works are proper to men. And surely a man shall see the noblest works and foundations have proceeded from childless men, which have sought to express the images of their minds, where those of their bodies have failed. So the care of posterity is most in them who have no posterity."
 -- Sir Francis Bacon

"Beware the leader who bangs the drums of war in order to whip the citizenry into a patriotic fervour, for patriotism is indeed a double-edged sword. It emboldens the blood, just as it narrows the mind. And when the drums of war have reached a fever pitch and the blood boils with hate and the mind has closed, the leader will have no need in seizing the rights of the citizenry. Rather, the citizenry, infused with fear and blinded by patriotism, will offer up all of their rights unto the leader and gladly so. How do I know?  For this is what I have done. And I am Caesar."
-- Caesar, leader of the roman empire

"Nature, Mr. Allnut, is what we are placed on this Earth to rise above."
Katharine Hepburn, to Humphrey Bogart, from "The African Queen", 1951

“If motherhood doesn’t interest you, don’t do it. It didn’t interest me, so I didn’t do it. Anyway, I would have made a terrible parent. The first time my child didn’t do what I wanted, I’d kill him.
–Katherine Hepburn

"I rented the movie 'State and Main' the other night. It's a comedy about a film crew who descends on a small New England town to make a movie, and the various trials and tribulations that ensue. There were a few great CF moments: One of the main characters, a writer, is developing feelings for a local woman. Since it is a small town she knows everyone, and anytime someone passes her they say hello. At one point the two are talking and a kid comes by and says something. The writer looks at her and says 'Do you like kids?' and she answers 'I never saw the point of them'. He smiles and says 'Me too'. There is a running gag where one of the crew is trying to take time off to fly home because his wife is having a brat, and none of the people in charge will let him go. At one point he asks the director, and the director shoots back 'with all the people in the world, you just had to have another?'" -- Rant Number: 25067 When: October 13, 2002

"They who can give up liberty for a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety",  Ben Franklin

"Between 15-25 million Americans over the age of 35 have never had children, either by choice or by chance." Leslie Lafayette, Childfree Network Newsletter

"At any given time in America only 34% of households have children under the age of 18." Leslie Lafayette, Childfree Network Newsletter

"According to the National Survey on Family Growth conducted by the National Center for Health Statistics in 1988, about 20% of women who had no children expected not to have any. That figure had risen from 17.5% in 1982."

Ann Landers in her column Dear Abby once did a survey of 10,000 parents. She asked them "If you had it to do over again, would you have children?" 70% of the 10,000 said they would not.

Definitions of childfree, childless, and fencesitter
If you are new here, read this link first.  Some sites use terms incorrectly: childless for childfree,  "childless by choice" for childfree, "formally childfree" for childless.
