And My Hammies

Welcome to my hamstery. Im Becky and I am fifteen years old. I started owning Cambell's Russian Dwarves in May of last year, but am already fairly educated in the genetics, keeping, and caring of these small critters. I take pride in breeding good quality, good temperamental hamsters who enjoy the company of humans. In the past five years, I have owned nine Syrian hamsters, and used to own and breed Fancy mice. I bought my first Cambells dwarf two years ago. I have learned that she was a Dilute Black Platinum, and I had called Pashmina after a hamster in Hamtaro. I later ended up giving her away as a result in me wanting to get a mouse. When the mouse died suddenly of unknown causes, I opted to go back to owning hamsters. I than purchased my first Pair of female dwarves from a reputable breeder in Woodstock a year later. Kiki (Solid Black) and Nikki (RE Lilac) got along well together for a few months until I had to separate them later in September due to fighting after being separated for breeding. Before that, I decided that I wanted to breed both Kiki and Nikki and decided to get two males from the same breeder. Pecan (REA Mottled) and Ash (Blue Mottled) had also gotten along for a short while, but also needed to be separated later, So i paired up Nikki X Ash and Kiki X Pecan. On November 11th, Kiki gave birth to six pups. One died in the first few days, and the other 5; 3 girls and 2 boys stayed with her untill they had to be separated from mum after Kiki's second litter, consisting of 2 girls and 1 boy, was born December 1st. All babies had been Agouti, untill one of the females in the second litter turned out to be the oddball being Opal Mottled, and was later named Angel.

Nikki had also given birth to her first litter on December 7th, consisting of 6 pups. Four died in the first week, leaving only two left. One was solid Blue and the other seemed to be Blue Mottled; which turned out to be RE Lilac Mottled. I had to take the pups from Nikki under certain circumstances, and had given them to Kiki who gladly took over as momma. The over crowding of Kiki's first and second litter still in the same bin with Kiki and now Nikki's 2 pups, resulted in the loss of the solid Blue male.
UPDATE: Now two months old, the RE Lilac Mottled male has since been paired up with his dad and are getting on great; but is still very "runty" in size. Most likely a result from not being cared for properly while with Nikki.

About a month ago I had bought a solid Blue female named Luna from a petshop. She was already very tame and was not frightened to be handled. She has only just been bred with, and in the next two weeks, should be able to tell if the breeding was a success. UPDATE: I have recently paired her up with Kiki's Opal Mottled girl Angel, and both seem to be living together fine.

UPDATE: Since then, Kiki has had her third and most likely her last litter on Jan 14. There were Seven healthy pups that are now three weeks old. There are five solids and two mottleds. I have decided to keep the Black Mottled girl (OREO), and the solid Blue boy (MAX). I have also recently bred one of Kiki's Agouti daughters from her first litter, {that still needs to be named. Any suggestions can me e-mailed to me} to her Agouti brother in hopes that they will produce Blacks, Argentes and some Opals.
