Poecilotheria regalis: Indian Ornamental

The poecilotheria genus are my favourite of all the spiders I keep as they are beautiful looking and grow to good size . The Indian ornamental is the most popular and widely owned Poecilotheria sp .It is a silvery grey colour and has a nice dorsal pattern. The underside of legs I and II have yellow bands as a warning signal. There is a cream coloured band across the underside of the abdomen. It grows to a large size(6-8") and is a very impressive looking Tarantula. Females can live 10 years + . This sp does not posses urticating hair, These spiders are arboreal and come from the forests of southeast India, living in tree hollows and behind loose tree bark. It is a very fast moving Tarantula that requires more cage height than floor space. All Poecilotheria are rumoured to posses a very potent bite so care should be taken when working around these spiders. Regalis are one of the spiders that can be kept communally . I keep my P.regalis about 75/80f and humidity 75/80%.

Psalmopoeus irminia: Suntiger

The Suntiger is one of the best looking tarantulas available to the hobby. It is a deep black colour with an orange chevron dorsal pattern. It has striking orange flashes on the metatarsus and an orange dot on the tarsus of the legs. This is another very fast arboreal tarantula that requires more cage height than floor space. Care is needed while doing cage maintenance as it is so fast moving. I keep P. irminia about 75/80f and humidity 75/80%. |
