Avicularia versicolor:Martinique Pink toe
|

The Martique Pinktoe is one of the most beautiful Tarantulas available .The adults are a purple/red colour with green. They are a docile if skittish species that can move very fast if disturbed . They are an arboreal tarantula so should be kept in a tall container with pieces of cork bark for the spider to web onto. They require quite high humidity and good ventilation. They dont like the humidity without the ventilation so I use a mesh lid with different amounts covered to provide for the spiders needs. As their scientific name suggests these spiders change colors as they get older. The Versicolor spiderling (above right) is a totally different colour from the adults .The spiderlings are a brilliant blue colour . The spiderlings are reported to be hard to keep when small because they need high humidity and good ventilation. I have found that they are not that difficult to keep if you keep an eye on them and watch the humidity. Again they are very quick. I keep the versicolor at 80F and 75/80% humidity. |
