Brachypelma boehmi : Mexican Beauty/Rust Leg

This is a nice looking spider similar to B smithi.the abdomen is black as is the femur of the legs. The rest of the legs are red/orange.It is a long lived spider females living up to and over 20 years +. Mine is a bad hair kicker and it seems as though most Boehmi are, it will kick hairs at the slightest disturbance. I keep B.boehmi around 75/80F and about 65/70% humidity.

Brachypelma smithi: Mexican Red Knee

The Mexican Redknee Tarantula is fairly large, about six inches when fully grown. They have a dark brown or black body with orange and red knees.I have found the Redknee is likely to kick hairs ocassioally if disturbed but mine are generally docile.Females can live up to 20-25 years. I keep B.smithi around 75/80F and about 65/70% humidity.

Brachypelma emilia : Mexican true red leg

The true red leg is a nice spider to keep as it is generally calm and docile although some will kick hairs if disturbed. They are slow growing and grow to about 5-6" leg span. The abdomen is black/very dark brown with longer red hairs, The carapace has a black triangle. The legs have red/orange segments on the tibia and metatarsus. Temperature 75/80F & Humidity 65/70%

Brachypelma klaasi : Mexican pink

Brachypelma klaasi is my favourite looking of the Brachypelma .Mine like to burrow more than the other Brachys. Keep the same as B.smithi 75/80F and about 65/70% humidity.

Brachypelma auratum : Mexican Flame Knee

Brachypelma auratum- The Mexican Flame Knee is another slow growing Brachypelma that grows to about 6" .  The abdomen and legs are black with a red/orange flame shape with a thin white band on the patella of each leg.The carapace is very alike Brachypelna smithi. They have urticating hair. Mine is very skittish and will run about its cage if disturbed.Temperature 75/80F & Humidity 65/70%

Megaphobema robustum : Columbian Giant

Megaphobema robustum  is a large (upto 8") spider which  comes from the  tropical rainforests of Columbia and parts of brazil.  It is a burrower which is very nervous and flighty. It has an unusual defence where it bobs up and down and flicks it's back legs at would be predators. The back legs have numerous thorny hairs on them for this strange defence. I find this to be another of those beautifull spiders that you seldom see as mine spends the days in its burrow. I keep M robustum  at  about Temp  80° F.  Humidity 80%

Aphonopelma bicolouratum : Mexican blood leg

Aphonopelma bicoloratum is a good beginners Tarantula as it is a calm and colourful spider. The only trouble is they can be hard to come by as they seem rare in the UK. They are slow growers that grow to a small size of about 4” but are very long lived. Temperature  75/80F and 65/70% humidity.

Chromatopelma cyaneopubescens: Greenbottle Blue .

The Greenbottle Blue Tarantula is one of the most beautiful tarantulas available.Adults have blue legs, a blue-green carapace, and a vibrant orange abdomen. This is a juvenile in the above picture .It  is very skittish. They can tolerate wider temperature and humidity ranges so are easy to keep. They like to web alot, both vertically and horizontally, the webbing is amazing. I keep my sling on the drier side about 60/70% and temperature 70/80F.

Haplopelma lividum : Cobalt Blue

Haplopelma lividum the cobalt blue is from asia and is a deep burrower it grows to about 4-5", The abdomen is black and grey with a chevron pattern. The carapace is grey with black patterning. It is absolutely stunning looking it looks as though its legs are black but in good light the legs are a stunning blue colour. It is a very aggressive species that will go into threat mode at the slightest disturbance and it will bite . They spend most of the day in deep burrows so they should be given a deep substrate to allow for this coming out at night time to look for food. They also like to spin webs in their enclosure. It needs to be kept on the humid side with a large water dish. Temperature 80/85F  Humidity 80/85%

Theraphosa blondi : Goliath Bird Eater

Theraphosa blondi – the goliath bird eater tarantula is considered to be the largest spider in the world , growing to 12” leg span. They posses urticating hairs that are the worst for irritation and they don’t hesitate to use them when disturbed so care must be taken even cleaning the tank. They can also stridulate  - they have special hairs on the opposing sides of their chelicerae. They can rub these hairs against each other when disturbed to create a noise that can be quite loud.

They are Burrowers from  the rain forests of Brazil, Guyana , Venezuela and need a deep substrate, this deep substrate also helps to protect this very large spider from falls if it climbs the tank walls as this could prove fatal. The fangs of T. blondi can reach 1” in length  .Temperature80/85F. Humidity 80% .
