Rogers Park Art Walk May 16th
Posted May 8 2009

Some of my working is going to be in this gallery art walk! You should come to the opening! And those of you who are artist (and have work to be shown) i recommend getting your work in the next one if not this one!

Rogers Park Art Walk Chicago, IL, May 16th, 2009 – With the cold winter winds now but a chilly memory, Chicago’s Rogers Park neighborhood is throwing a party the best way it knows how – with great local art, music, food, drinks, and plenty of reasons to get reacquainted with neighbors in this unique community. Hundreds of works of art produced by local artists will be offered up for sale at multiple locations along Morse and Glenwood Avenues, at local galleries, restaurants and bars, and even vacant storefronts festively decorated and accompanied by DJs, bands and other local performers. The Rogers Park Art Walk – the first gathering of its kind in a neighborhood thriving with creativity and expression – kicks off Saturday, May 16th at 7 p.m. till 12am and will be repeated once each month through August.

“Our goal is to get people in the community to come out and see the many places we’ll be featuring, some of which are otherwise vacant storefronts. This is a great way to help local businesses, building owners and artists all at the same time, while also getting people from outside the neighborhood to come and see all the good things that are going on here despite the economy,” says Walk coordinator and Hoteí cofounder Omar Farah. “We want to build this event up so that it’s considered a major art walk on par with many of the other better-known Chicago neighborhood art walks and festivals.”

Farah hopes to enlist up to 60 artists to exhibit their work in one of the many locations along the walk. Besides Hotei Gallery and Art Center (1445 W. Morse Ave.), he will have use of two additional otherwise vacant store fronts at 1409 W. Morse Ave.& 1412 W. Morse Ave. and other local businesses like The Glenwood Tap and live music at Duke’s, among other venues. B1E Gallery will open their doors and their patio for fire dancing performers. Artwork will then be on display throughout the month at Hoteí.

Admission to the event is $20, which includes access to all sites, entertainment and open bar and drink tickets good at local establishments. Free parking at the corner of Morse and clark.

To buy tickets in advance and to see the entire lineup of artists, go to www.Hoteiartcenter.com.

Artists and musicians interested in participating in this unique night are encouraged to contact Omar Farah at Hoteí Gallery & Art Center (hoteiartcenter@gmail.com).

SAIC BFA Show
Posted March 20 2009

A friend of mine from school Beth Hetland along with Kyle O'Connell created a comics library for thier BFA piece. They have a comic from me in the show as well as a bunch of other great student, alumni, and staff from SAIC. The comics are available to anyone to take home (while supplies last!). I gave them about 110 copies. And most were already gone the opening night! Unfortunately the show ends at the beginning of April. But you can get the comic I made for the show at Quimby's for a dollar! The title is The Maiden and the Prince.

A Bailliwik Update
Posted February 26 2009

Bailliwik issue 6 is included in several collections!
The issue was briefly on display at The Printers' Ball (until an ardent fan decided to take it for themselves), and is currently on display at the Chicago Cultural Center's new Lit Lounge, along with some past issues and many other Chicago-based publications. The issue is in the collections of the Joan Flasch Artists Book Collection at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, the University of Chicago Library's Rare Books Collection, and the ACA Library of Savannah College of Art and Design. There are also a few copies of the issue on sale at Threewalls gallery, a great nonprofit art space here in Chicago that has recently opened a bookshop.

Biological Agents
Posted October 17 2008

I'm in this show, go see it!
Here is the website Biological Agents October 14 - November 22, 2008
Opening Reception: Wednesday, October 15, 5-8pm
The complexities of our contemporary life fundamentally challenge the way we understand ourselves as biological entities within larger ecosystems. Biological Agents: Artistic engagements in our growing bioculture focuses on the work of Brandon Ballengee, Caitlin Berrigan, and Natalie Jeremijenko: three artists who engage the intimate participation of organisms and the public alike, examining what it means to be human, to be animal, and to have personal and social agency.
The exhibition also features the Knowledge Virus Research Station, offering resources and information on biological topics from a variety of creative perspectives, as well as an extensive Biological Agents events series.
This exhibition is curated by Christa Donner (Studio Arts, the University of Illinois at Chicago/UIC, the School of the Art Institute of Chicago/SAIC) and Andrew Yang (Biology & Liberal Arts, SAIC). It is co-organized with Lennard Davis (UIC Project Bio-cultures and Professor of English, Disability Studies and Medical Education, UIC).
