My Layouts by Steve Thomas

Sevenacre Wood

Sevenacre Wood is my first decent layout that I started working on in October 2005. The layout has an 2' 6" long and 1' wide scenic section and an 2' 6" long and 4" wide fiddle yard giving an overall size of 5'. The layout was built to prove that people can build a decent layout in a very small space and don't have to spend a lot of money on scenics and track. The layout is set in west London in the 1989-1991 period, before the class 165 and 166 "Networker turbos" and when Network Southeast operated most of the services in the south east. Sevenacre Wood has only one platform which is just long enough for an 2 car DMU, also the layout has a small fuel point opposite the station where diesels are fuelled for their next service.

Adelaide Road

Adelaide Road is the name of my latest layout under construction, like its cousin (Sevenacre Wood) it is a small space layout. The layout is built on an old shelf board which I found in a nearby skip, the board measures only 2' 6" in length and 15cm in width. I wanted to make the layout a bit unique so the scenic area is only half the lengh of the board (and the fiddle yard is the same size), also it is set in mid Autumn, a feature that has hardly been modelled. The layout is due to be completed by January 2007. The layout has no real set time period as I need to sort out the passenger trains but for now the class 170 will operate.
