There’s really no way to avoid a gain, but now that I have your attention, please keep reading. I think what I have to say is worth your time. :)
This being Memorial Day Weekend, I was reminded of what happened to me LAST Memorial Day Weekend (2006).
DH and I decided to make it a four-day weekend and go on a road trip. Since Monday was my WI day at that time, DH graciously agreed to let me load the scale into the car so I wouldn’t miss my WI. What a guy!
We enjoyed our weekend, and come Monday morning I was excited to step on the scale and see how much I had lost. It was my 7th week on program, and the losses had been good so far.
Well, this was the day that I had my FIRST gain, and it was a good one. I was up +2.2 lbs.! I was crushed! I had been doing everything right, and the scale had failed me. I tried not to let it get to me, but I was still a bit discouraged.
The truth of the matter is, we are ALL going to show a gain or a maintain at some point in our weight loss journey. Sometimes it will be deserved, and other times it will be totally undeserved. You may be TOTALLY on program, and for whatever reason, the scale may just not cooperate. I’ve been reading these boards for over a year now, and I don’t know ANYONE who hasn’t gained at one time or another. If you’ve never gained, please speak up. LOL
Since that first gain a year ago, I’ve had 11 other gains / maintains and I have no doubt there will be more as I continue on with my weight loss journey and a healthier me. But you know what? I am currently down -106.3 lbs., and that one gain a year ago didn’t amount to a hill of beans today, one year later.
Please, when you show a gain, record it and then move on. Stay on program, keep exercising, and just keep doing what you know to do. It will all be worth it in the end!
