Cheri Foster

Author of "The Dance"

Why do we stay with an abuser?

We love them.

We feel sorry for them.

We think they will change.

We believe that they need us.

We are financially dependent on them.

The list goes on. . .

Here is an excerpt from my book:

"Shane," I said calmly, "You told me that you have assaulted every woman you have ever been with. I can?t take you back now."

"Oh, please Cheri, meet me tomorrow, just for coffee? We can talk." He whimpered, "I need you so much. I can't live without you."

"But Shane. . ."

"Cheri! How can you turn your back on me?" He cried, "You said that you loved me, and I need you so bad! Please? I know you hate me, and I understand why you do, but please, let me see you! Just one more time, just for coffee?"

Sound familiar? The cycle of abuse is full of "I'm so sorry's."
