Basics (beginning tumbling)

HANDSTANDS!!!! HANDSTANDS!!!! HANDSTANDS!!!!:
The better your handstands are, the better your other tumbling can be. Almost EVERY error a tumbler makes in their HANDSTAND will be echoed and exaggerated through MOST OF their other tumbling skills.

Handstands are a skill that should be performed MASTERFULLY, EACH and EVERY day, for excellence in tumbling. It takes 5-7 minutes.

PERFORMING the HANDSTAND!!- To properly perfrom the handstand you may need to use a wall or closed door for help. Go into a handstand postition on the wall. Make sure you wrist, elbows, neck, back, legs, and ankles are in a STRAIGHT line. Your fingertips should be facing the wall and your arms should be no wider than your shoulders. Be sure to keep your elbows completely STRAIGHT. Also remember to keep your body TIGHT. Remember to SQUEEZE your stomach, leg and butt muscles, this helps you to balance and supports your back. In your handstand position you need to remember to PUSH THROUGH your SHOULDERS. Try not to slouch in your handstand, stay TIGHT and STRAIGHT and remember to keep your head and neck RELAXED in between your shoulders and arms. DO NOT try to look forward in your handstand! Keep your head hanging and relaxed! Follow these EACH and EVERY time you perform your handstand! Handstands are a very important part in cheerleading! Especially TUMBLING! Perform handstand every day properly will greatly improve your tumbling!
