Jumps are an important part in cheerleading! Therefore you must practice your jumps each day, at practices and at your home for better performance on your jumps. Jumps may be frustrating at times, but they take a lot of practice, and skill. That can be helped by doing your jumps everyday. You should also work on your strength for jumps each time you are working on your jumps. Because the abs are what pulls your legs up in a jump you need to work on your abs just about every time you work on your jumps. You should also work on your leg muscles each time you practice your jumps because your legs are what’s pushing you up and off the ground. Here are some great exercises for you to do that will improve your jumps.
Running~ Running is one of the best ways to strengthen and keep up endurance. It is helpful to all parts of cheerleading not just jumps.
Lunges~ Lunges are done by stepping forward, keeping your back straight. Go down until your back knee is almost touching the ground. Make sure your front knee is not bent over past your ankle. Hold that for 1-5 seconds. Then repeat with the other leg in front.
Squats~ Squats are done standing up and bending your legs a 90 degree angle and keeping them not wider than shoulder width apart. Make sure your feet are pointing forward. Go down and come back up and repeat. You can also do these against a wall. Stand with your back against a wall and do the same thing but hold the position. Try increasing the time as strength builds.
Calf raises~ Calf raises are done by standing on a step or mat and raising yourself onto your toes then back down. Repeat. Try increasing the number of raises as strength builds.
