Prof. Clemenceau walked to the front of the classroom and began the lecture.
"Welcome to Properties of Potions. In this first lesson we will be making the Draught of Peace. Usually this potion is saved for your 5th or 6th year, however I really want you to experience some exciting potions that have definite properties that are easily visible. Thoughout this term, you will all be making potions. Some of which might be a little difficult, however in the end for your final exam you will be drinking one of your potions and describing the affect. So let me begin with a little run-down about the Draught of Peace.
The Draught of Peace calms anxiety and soothes agitation. Therefore the property of this potions is a "feel good" property. The ingredients include powdered moonstone, syrup of hellebore, ashwinder eggs (frozen), & pus of a bubotuber. Each ingredient plays an important role in the making of this potion. However in the end the single most important ingredient is the hellebore, how ironic. Hellebore sounds almost demonic and yet its the one ingredient that counts the most.
This potion can be prepared farely quickly but to be on the safe side since this is probably your first time making a complex potion, we will be making it over the course of a week. Today I will make the potion in little under an hour so that you can see how it is made. This potion has to be exact other wise it will not work, make sure that you look for the signs that your potion is going good. Remember the three "C's" in potion making: Color, Concentration, & Content.
Color is pretty obvious this potion should go through a few stages. It should start out a deep red, then turn almost purple in the end it will be a tan color with brown lumps. If it does not go through these three color steps, the potion simply won't work. Concentration is also important because you do not want a high concentration of a certain ingredient in one area. This could cause the color to be uneven and then the potion will not turn out. The final "C" is content, you must put the right amount and right ingredients into the mixture, anything other than exact could spell disaster.
This concludes our first lecture. My least favorite part of the class. Next, I will do the demonstration. I would like each of you to make your own potion once I am finished."
Chauncey walked to the cauldron. And stood in front of it, all the ingredients he will need are right on the table to his right.
"So first I must light the cauldron fire, this is when charms can come in handy."
He aimed wand at the bottom of the cauldron and said:* "Indendio!" *The fire at the bottom of the cauldron lit.
"Ah there we go. Now I want to bring a gallon of water to a boil. Sounds a bit like cooking, I know. Most potions start out with boiling water. After the water boils you are going to want to add the pus of a bubotuber, remember only about a pint. We don't want to over due it. This is the worst part because you have to wait for the pus to turn the water the deep red color."
Chauncey used the wand to stir the boiling hot water.
"Ok, now see this is the color that I want." Chauncey said, pointing to the boiling water. "That red color signals the time when I can add the powdered moonstone. After the powdered moonstone is added it is time to boil the water for 10 minutes."
Chauncey walked over to his desk and took a large book off of it. Chauncey red a small passage out of the book and walked back over to the cauldron.
"Right, I forgot to mention earlier that moonstone can help emotionally balance an individual. I knew I left something out. Anyways its time to again look at the color. It appears that mine is now a shade of purple which is just where I want it to be. Now, I first need to mix the ashwinder eggs, which at this point are still frozen, and put them in a container with the syrup of a hellebore. Its very important that these two ingredients mix themselves. If they do not the potion is a total waste."
Chauncey walked to his cupboard and took out a phile.
"Ok, now the two ingredients should of had plenty of time to sit themselves." He took the bowl holding the two ingredients and poored them into the cauldron and took two large steps back. BOOOM! The cauldron exploded and flames were pooring out of the top of it.
"Now thats the part you have to be careful for, it should explode IF you did it right. Look, see."
Motioned the students too look at the cauldron. Took some of the potion and put it into a vile.
"This is what it should look like when its finished."

The bell to end class rang loudly.
"REMEMBER TOMORROW WHEN YOU COME INTO CLASS TO BEGIN WORK RIGHT AWAY. THE ASSIGNMENT WILL BE ON THE BOARD."
He yelled as the students packed up and left.
In groups of two you will role play in the class forum you making the potion. Please remember to check back in the forum on Monday's & Thusday's to see the new senario to which you have to solve before the potion can be completed. Remember to go to Diagon Alley and purchase the following ingredients: powdered moonstone, syrup of hellebore, ashwinder eggs (frozen), & pus of a bubotuber. Also remember to bring your cauldrons in and begin to create your potion.
