Queen City Gavel Club #293872

In the Queen City Gavel Club, students have a speaking role at each meeting.  Some roles require more preparation than others.  For planning purposes, we provide a “look-ahead” schedule, showing each student’s role during the semester.  Over the course of the year, each student is scheduled to give 4 or more speeches, most of which are 5-7 minutes in length.  After 10 speeches, a student earns the “Competent Gavelier Award” from Toastmasters International.  Advanced award levels and leadership awards are also achievable.

The Queen City Gavel Club meets during the school year (September - mid May). The club will meet Tuesdays at 1:00 PM at Church at Charlotte located at the corner of Carmel Rd.and Colony Rd.Visitors are always welcome!

The Queen City Gavel Club is full with a waiting list..   If you would like to be added to the waiting list, please send your student's name, age, and phone number to Sandramitchell@mindspring.com.

Each Gavel Club member must have a medical release form completed and on record with the sponsor.  If you have not done so, you may print the following medical release form and submitt it to Sandra Mitchell at the next meeting.

Gavel Club Agenda.pdf  Agendas should have the club logo and date on them.  Because we are going to have two concurrent meetings, the Toastmaster should also put the room number on the agenda:  Rm. or Rm

Seating in Gavel Club is based on role assignment.  Please print this chart so you'll know where to sit!  Our tables are usually arranged in a "U" shape.   http://www.freewebs.com/charlottegavelclubs/Gavel Seating Chart.bmp

Club Socials

SocialsAugust 21, September 18, October 30, November 20, December 11, January 29, February 26, March 25, April 22, May 13

This year we have a social comitee to assist in making the most of our time together. Instead of collecting money a little each month, you have an option of paying one time ($30) or two payments ($15 each due on 9/4/07 and 1/8/08). Having this paid in advance allows this commitee to better plan the themes, activities, food, and any prizes they include and keep the budget balanced. These socials are for the members and we would love their ideas and suggestions. On November 20 will be an Operation Christmas Child Social to support the ministry to third world and war-torn countries.

Throughout the year, do you shop for bargains to include in your Operation Christmas Child gift boxes? If so, you’ve probably accumulated a motley assortment of goods.  Do you have a lot of combs but no t-shirts? Or toothbrushes but no toothpaste?  Let’s pool all our bargain items, organize the items by ages, and see how many complete boxes we can make.

Bring as many empty shoeboxes as you want to donate (You don’t have to bring any shoeboxes if you don’t want to, but if you do, please remember it’s $5 per box for shipping.)  Then bring your items you’ve accumulated to donate to this ministry:  toiletry items (no glass containers or liquids), small toys, T-shirts, underwear, hard candy (no tootsie rolls), pens, pencils, pencil sharpeners, writing tablets, small books, etc.  When we’re done, you can either leave the completed shoeboxes at St. Stephen or take them to your church/service organization to donate.
